A Game of Thrones (Trailer)

That pic is great…Do you know where it’s from?

Anyone else finished ADWD?

ADWD SPOILER:

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

Man if Jon Snow is really dead I’m gonna be super pissed. But I think the red priests know how to raise the dead, the dude with the flaming sword did it a whole bunch of times in the first 3 books.

A Dance with Dragons - AMAZING

Only a theory but it’s the best I have. Consider these excerpts from the end of the chapter:

  • “The knght’s cloak flapped in the cold air. Of white wool it had been, bordered in cloth-of-silver and pattered with blue stars. Blood and bone were flying everywhere.” (a bleeding star)
  • “Bowen Marsh stood there before him, tears running down his cheeks.” (salt)
  • “In the cold night air the wound was smoking” (smoke)

Compared to the Azor Ahai prophecy:

“When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone.”

Plus from Melisandre’s chapter: “I pray for Azor Ahai and R’hllor only shows me Jon Snow.”

Did Jon Snow die? Most likely. But I think Azor Ahai will live.

Just finished it. On a par with GoT and aSoS for best in the series. Moved slow but it’s all set up now for the sixth book.

minor spoiler

I hate Ramsay Bolton beyond all I thought possible

end spoiler

SPOILER

Did anybody else catch Lord Manderly baking the “missing” Frey’s into pies, and then eating like 6 helpings himself? He looks like a total lard-ass weakling lord, then you find out he’s been plotting against the Boltons all along and he likes to eat his enemies. Stone cold fucking gangsta.

Damn man, didn’t see this post. Nice catch. That would totally be GRRM style, have an prophecy that seems to have an obvious target (Dany), but its actually fulfilled in a really mundane way.

I hope you’re right, otherwise the entire Jon Snow story was a waste of time. He is/was my favorite character left.

I caught the Rat Cook reference but couldn’t understand why, it seemed so out of left field. “The North remembers!”

Another thing I missed from the Reek/Theon chapters was that Abel and the washerwomen were Mance and the spearwives.

Carice Van Houten to start in Season 2.

That makes me very happy. I fell in love with her after watching Blackbook.

Sum up of Game of Thrones.

For those who watched the series and want an idea of what wasn’t in scenes and added in post-production.

Just finished A Dance With Dragons… amazing. I could barely put it down. On par for one of the best of the series.

SPOILER:

I didn’t think it would ever be possible to feel bad/sympathy for Theon Greyjoy…then came Ramsey Bolton… holy hell.

Good call on the pies…I didn’t catch that at all, but now I want to go back and re-read it. I was wondering why they focused on that (Perhaps I shouldn’t read while drinking!)

I started this book and got to the part where some ice people with blue eyes attacked the prince and his party. I lost all interest. Does it get better or is it solidly fantasy?

If you are still at the part with the wall and all the snow then yes it gets better and more about the characters soon. There is fantasy but it is only the back drop for the story. The blue eyed people aren’t mentioned again until much later. You’re still in the introduction part. You haven’t even met the main characters for the first book yet.

There is magic and dragons. The story is character-driven though. My wife hates fantasy and still loved the first season of the show.

That wasn’t a prince btw, it was a knight.

ADWD SPOILER:

My reading progress has slowed considerably, so I’m only a third of the way through this. It is very good though.

I’m shocked that Prince Aegon is still alive. Even more shocked what has become of Theon Greyjoy. Ramsay Bolton is a nasty motherfucker. Since I’ve read some of the vague spoilers on this thread, I’m assuming he only gets worse.

At this point, there are so many divergent story lines it feels like Martin is never going to be able to finish this thing. I bet book 6 takes 5 more years to write.

Ok after watching the series twice I went out and bought GoT and CoK, only about a third of a way into GoT but I have to say I incredibly impressed woth how well they managed to translate the story onto the screen. I dont get much time to read but i find myself really looking forward to getting to bed at night so that i can read another chapter or two into the book. It’s been a long time snce I could honestly say that about a book. Arya and Dany were particularly well brought to life in the show.

Cant wait to get through book one and start exploring new material though, any news on when series two will be coming out?

Watched all 10 episodes this week… FUKCING AWESOME!!!

But imagine if it was filmed with AMerican accents, it probably woulda been comedic.

English accents make everyone seem so more bad ass!

Season 2 starts next year, unfortunately.

This is a summary of “Game of Thrones” as an 8 bit rpg.

Not safe for work!
