Oo I almost forgot, Charles Poliquin reported on a research study showing strength was gained more rapidly with 8 sets to failure at 80% than with fewer sets. That’s a lot of volume. I don’t think I’ve ever done that much volume.
I don’t mean to imply you’re not accurately reporting your findings, but links por favor? I occasionally like to go back and reference or send stuffs to my friends.
And that is a lot of volume! I don’t think I can count past 5 at the gym.

Meanwhile, having looked at my bikini-clad self, I couldn’t decide if I need to lose fat (for more leg definition and less low ass) or gain fat (for smoother back, which is muscly but lumpy?) so I hit on: do the sprint workout that was in the T-Nation article earlier this week and try creatine again. So far, I have gained two pounds but my bf is the same according to calipers and waist measurement. Win I probably need a tan too, as I’ve nearly blinded the camera with my white self. Felt slightly hideous this week watching my skin age… I don’t know why I can’t get over it and train for performance. I mean, I’ve never been beautiful but I’m cute, and ok, if I am one point less attractive now than I was at 44 with little creases at teh sides of my mouth, well, who cares? The trouble is, I;m afraid to look in the mirror for fear I will see:

Cardio notes
I was on a business trip so I didn’t get that deadlift PR done yet. I’ll try today. As I said above, I implemented the 6 week treadmill sprint program and creatine. I think the creatine is making me wired. Got back into the gym with 20+5 minutes treadmill at 4.5 mph in addition to the sprint workout.
Deadlifts shall occur in approximately two hours.
Do you know how really amazing and unusual you women are for even lifting free weights, much less rocking it?

Deadlift
I worked up to 1x205 and then went for the 220. It wouldn’t budge off the floor. Neither would 215. I closed out the session with a bunch of sets to failure at 165, 155, and 135 in the spirit of higher volume.
Spider, you’ll get that deadlift. On the right day at the right time. I can utterly sympathize with failing on a light squat weight or having a loaded barbell stuck to the floor with superglue. Goals for the future, that’s all.
If your skin is bothering you, then conduct experiments on that. I got microdermabrasions for a time and liked them. I decided to spend my discretionary $$ elsewhere for the moment, but I’d recommend it and would do it again.
Its mean of you to talk about bikini pictures and yet show none of them.
I hear you on the ageing. I have some lines but nothing I am concerned about. However, my lower face has drooped since I hit 37. I can’t help thinking I need a little lower face lift but people are still shocked when I tell them I’m 44 so I guess it’s not so bad yet. I’m just worried I’ll look in the mirror one day and see Deputy Dawg. Don’t think any kind of skin resurfacing can help that, unfortunately.
Deadlift is a fucker. It’ll come in time - just keep plugging away.
Thanks about the dl, guys. I know I’ll get it. This is the first time since starting sumo that I failed at the floor, so that’s interesting and needs to be attacked differently. I’ve been working hip hinge movements. Interestingly today my quads hurt which is unusual for post-deadlifting.
Cal, that lower face thing just happened to me like two weeks ago. I went to see someone about my unacceptable face changes and she basically laughed and me and told me no one would do surgery on me at this point. So I guess I’m just insane, but I hate that my skin won’t stay put. It’s a control thing as well as vanity. If my veins are changing and my skin quality is changing, what else is happening inside me that I can’t control!? When I feel this way I surf the web for pictures of Ernestine Shepherd and I hold them in front of me like a crucifix in front of a vampire and say GET AWAY!
Cardio today started with the sprint workout at 9 mph and took 3.5 minutes followed up with ss jogging for ~17 minutes. My 11 year old has been begging me to teach him to weight lift so I did that rather than lift myself but I did sneak in 1x15 bench with the bar and 1x15 at 55. I paid strict attention to pulling the bar apart and by god it really did tighten and pull together my back. Then my labia felt flabby so I did some fanny-lifts. ;)(Hi Cal!)
Yeah I got that. I actually went for a consult a couple of years back but the surgeon (quite rightly) said I didn’t need any work done. He offered fillers but I don’t like the idea of having weird shit put into my face. I don’t want to end up like one of those weird cat-face women.
As for the bench, pulling the bar apart really helps me a lot. It’s the only way I can bench without pain from my 20 year old rotator cuff injury.
And time for a labioplasty? Maybe a nice surgeon will give you a BOGOF on that and a face lift.

Missing a lift you’ve pumped yourself up for sucks, but it makes GETTING it even that much sweeter.
I always miss it from the floor and was cued to push the floor away with my feet. It didn’t help me at the time but the more I’ve mulled it over the more it’s made sense.
I am really enjoying the sprint program. Starting week 2 today. 6 treadmill sprints at 9.5 mph is kind of kicking my lungs’ ass (asses?) Reporting clinically on the first week of creatine and sprinting I can say that my bf is down about 1-2% but my weight is still up at 111. In my experience I don’t get down to 15% unless I am several pounds lighter. This is very good and interesting news because I tend toward the too skinny side, as ya know.
I was singing along to the radio this morning. U2 “One Love”. I never noticed that song before. It looks like I’ve been depression-free since the beginning of January. Sure, I’m still wrestling with ordinary insecurities and searching for the best happiness, but that’s a WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL compared to depression. You’ll know it if you feel it. I know how hard it is to do anything if you are feeling that way, but just get up and move and just keep on moving until your heart lightens ever so slightly and it will get better.

…here come my eight sets at 80%…
8x4 80 lbs. Seems like I should have been able to do more like 6 reps at 80, but I did focus on spreeeeeeading the bar and keeping my elbows in.
