You should be competing at the next open. It will likely be in January. Based on what you did with your squat, I think you would totally smoke it.
There are 50 people registered for Saturday, 8 of which are women. 5 of the 8 are in my weight class. Two I recognise and lift far heavier than I do. Mind you, I’ve never used gear so I don’t know what the real gap is. Still significant I’m sure. One of the women I’ve seen around at my old gym and have chatted with a bit so it’ll be good to see her compete.
One of the men competing is Shawn O’Halloran. I’m looking forward to watching him…in a totally non-stalkerish way of course. I hear he got started lifting with starting strength. Someone recommended it. There’s a definition on Wikipedia.
I love the new picture btw.
I’ll start working extremely hard on my bench in a few weeks. Right now it sucks. Other than that I’m comfortable with my lifts. I’d be lifting for myself anyway, and with my squat and DL right now, at least I wouldn’t feel embarrassed. The bench on the other hand… :S But if I’m not there competing in Jan, I will be there to cheer you on!
It sounds like it will be a blast on Saturday. Best of luck. However luck has nothing to do with it. You’ve trained hard and will just go out and do your thing.
So here’s an update live from work. (because, while I’m not actively fucking the dog, I am gently humping him)
Since I got up at 7, I’ve had 6 litres of water to drink. I’ve been doing this for a few days now. You know what my key learning about drinking mass quantities of water? It makes me fucking cold. I’m so freaking cold right now. Even room temperature water is 30 degrees colder than your body so I guess when there are huge volumes sitting in your stomach, it cools you right down. One of the offshoots of that is I feel light headed and strange.
Okay I am strange but I’m sure you all know what I mean. The overweight people at work are running the ac and I’m in a snowsuit. I’ve started heating the water a bit to see if it helps at all.
So next summer when I’m feeling really hot and irritable, I know what to do. This will be boffo in July with no ac. Right now it sucks ass.

I realize it sounds a bit insane, but I heat mine up a little. Occasionally I make really dilute tea (cue Ponce ripping me a new one), but sometimes I just sip warm water. I get my water in, and get to be warm.

I think she should start drinking ice water. Why you ask? Because I think it would be hilarious to see a picture of her with a toque and mittens and snowsuit on (one piece of course) while everyone around her is in late summer/fall clothing. But that’s just me

I’m trying to warm the water. I’m not doing it with tea because I’d only want to add milk and then I risk suffering Ponce’s wrath. Then I might cry.
I saw the pic - I’m no longer going to apologize for my insanity.
If you don’t want to try the tea, try a tbsp of apple cider vinegar in warm water.
I don’t think Ponce would ever inflict his wrath on you… on second thought I guess it depends on how we’re defining wrath.

Apple cider vinegar is great for dropping water weight.
The week before the meet, I drink 8 oz of warm water w/lemon juice, 3 times a day. Plus a gallon of water.

I think I’ll pick up some vinegar at lunch. I’ve been following the link you gave me from Maryland. He suggests eating a whole lemon the evening before just when you finish with all the water. I’m trying that too. It should be fun.

Get ACV not just vinegar.
Okay. I was going to get malt vinegar to simulate eating chips. Does it really make a big difference? I don’t mean acv vs. regular vinegar but vinegar vs. none.
I’m not sure how much fat I’ve lost in the last 6 weeks vs. water but my pants are hanging off my hips and not too long ago I had to do up the button with an elastic. It feels like a pretty substantial difference in a short time.
I made weight. I actualy weighed in at 54.9 kg or 121 lbs.
I competed in belt and wraps on squat. Nothing on bench and belt only on deadlift.
I made all my squat attempts. The final weight was 80 kg or 176lbs. Bench, I only made my opener at 42.5 kg or 93.5 lbs. I couldn’t push out 105 lbs which was very discouraging. I think I did too much in warm up. DL I made all attempts. Final one was 102.5 kg or 226 lbs. It came up very easily and I could have pulled more. I decided to go with a conservative weight because I wanted to ensure I got it. I ended up qualifying for Provincials at 225kg and doing it mostly raw (except for wraps). I was so stoked.
I ended up placing third as well which surprised me because my only focus was to qualify so they had to keep paging my to pick up my plaque/trophy.
See below for my videos. Thanks to my videographer and personal assistant.
One of the other team members went down with me to help since he wasn’t competing. I’m so glad he was there to video, hand in lift attempts, see when I was up and needed to wrap and generally babysit me.
Here is my only successful bench. My bench sucks and will be getting even more focus. I did get three white lights but the third was slow to illuminate.
