I saw Men’s Health with a recipe for a healthier burger and thought I’d give it a try. Unfortunately, the leanest ground beef I found in my supermarket was 85%, but I’m giving it a shot.
Right now, I’m eating it with whole grain buns, spinach, tomatoes, and cheese. I’m going to be eating it about once a day, along with probably 12-18 oz of chicken breast per day, as I am in a bulk up phase and have a fairly high metabolism. Is this okay? (And I certainly will try to get some 95% lean ground beef if it is.)
That’s not too bad. Nothing’s as bad as those cheap-assed meat logs. I at least get the 90% lean. You’re gonna need more chicken breast than that if you wanna bulk. Not many calories in white meat. But you are pretty light, What is your daily calorie goal?

I’m actually slightly under 150 lbs now (will update), and I’m aiming for about 3500 calories per day. I’m fairly metabolically active, because I’m pretty young still and like to do a lot of cardio (although I’m reducing my cardio activity now for this bulk phase).

I am going to be the first of many to tell you that you will definatly need to eat more calories if you want to bulk up.
For burgers, a higher-fat meat is better. It keeps them juicy and tender. No one likes a dried out lean burger.
I actually alternate between 90% and 80% beef. I buy it in bulk at Sam’s Club and divide it up into 1.5 pound portions and throw it in the freezer and use as needed.
I tend to use 85% lean ground beef for everything. Though if I am frying it I will drain the fat a couple a couple times, but on the BBQ its great, i like to make big flames.
