8 Scoops of Protein a Day

Would drinking up to 8 scoops of whey protein per day cause any issues? Has anyone here taken most of his protein from shakes?

it canā€™t be worse than GOMAD XD. I couldnā€™t do that (hunder issue lol), but if itā€™s ok with you (economical situation, hunder, time, etc etc) go for it

not an issue for limited periods of time. lookup the (original) Velocity diet on this site.

not something Id recommend long term but for some time / goal why not

Iā€™d imagine the main issue would be a considerable dent in the wallet.

Mixed with milk and bought in bulk, you can get a decent amount of calories pretty cheap.

The Velocity diet was based heavily around using shakes as the primary means of nutrition.

That said, I imagine no medical professional would advise this approach.

Just seems so pointless that way mate, in my opinion. How much protein are you getting in 8 scoops? 160g ballpark figure?

Plus how many calories does someone need before they start putting on the chub

Bear in mind Iā€™m a 42 year old stressed out dad who probably puts on fat if I go about 1kcal over maintenance :man_facepalming:

Iā€™m in a similar boat. I drank it for convenience and to lose weight, oddly.

My completely unscientific, and probably ridiculous opinions are that shakes are worthless for me to gain weight, I only really use them to lose weight. At the time my diet was 4-6 scoops of whey mixed with 1.5L of milk throughout the day, then a solid protein based meal at night. Easy, quick, cheap and effective. Absolutely in no way scientifically backed or verified.

Probably digestive issues with that much.

I agree. Probably need quite a bit of fiber to counter it.

Depends on what the issue is, more fiber might make it go through you even faster.

For me, the it would swing the other way and I would need something to kĆØep things moving.

One way or another it canā€™t end well.

Other issues I could imagine being a problem are increased hunger due to the fact that whey protein shakes are much less filling than the meat you wonā€™t be eating, and also iron and B vitamin deficiency since protein shakes have none of that. Itā€™s called a ā€œsupplementā€ for a reason, itā€™s supposed to supplement your diet rather than replace real food.

Great if you want to strap a turbine to your ass and power the neighborhood with ā€˜windā€™.

Exactly!

I think it wonā€™t kill you and try it and see

How big are these scoops?

25 gr each with 21 grams of protein

Given that Iā€™d be eating normal food on top of that, to get in all the micronutrients, would it still be an issue?

If you get enough iron and B vitamins from elsewhere then theoretically it could work. As long as your diet isnā€™t deficient in anything then the only issue I could imagine is digestive problems, and you would get sick of protein shakes pretty fast too.

Why exactly do you want to do this?
