deadlifts 3 x 5 @ 135, 225, 315, 1 x 3 @ 325, 1 x 0 @ 335
machine pullovers 3 x 8 @ 210, 220, 210
leg press 3 x 10 @ 225, 315, 405; feet together 2 x 10 @ 225
hack squat 3 x 8 @ 135, 225, 225
close grip bench 3 x 10 @ 115, 135, 145
Ok workout. Deadlift order was 135, 225, 325, 335, 315; thought that might work, but 335 did not move, today. Took Wednesday off as usual but I noticed feeling really pumped all yesterday.
Gravity hmmm. Just moved to Northern Idaho from central Texas this year. 315 dead feels about as heavy and I have been able to increase my reps over the months. Hopefully just getting stronger. @biker - good luck with the nemesis, mine as well, just got 2@225 for the first time recently. Some days just feel bad though and can only get 200.
dhoke231, you and NHFTR have about the same gravity, being so far north.
pullups 5, 6, 5
leg press 3 x 10 @ 225, 315, 405; 2 x 10 @ 225 (heels touching, still experimenting)
hack squats (deep) 3 x 8 @ 135, 225, 225
deadlifts 3 x 5 @ 135, 225, 315
single arm machine rows 4 x8 @ 80, 90, 135, 180
machine pullovers 3 x 8 @ 150, 200, 220
machine tricep pushdowns 3 x 8 @ about 130, then ?,?
Ok workout. Thought pullups would help deadlifts, I disproved that thought. Still a good warmup. Maybe enough pullups and rows will get my deadlifts higher.
squats 3 x 6 @ 135, 225, 315, 1 x 12 @ 225
machine squats 3 x 8 @ 280, 340, 380
barbell bench 2 x 8 @ 135, 210, 1 x 4 @ 225, 1 x 3 @ 225 (some improvement here)
bodyweight dips 4 x 10
snatch grip high pulls 3 x 6 @ 135, 155, 165
shoulder machine press 3 x 8 @ 90, 160, 190
(slow) rope cable curls 3 x 10 @ 120, 140, 150
That squat toilet stretching is helping my squat form; I’m at or below parallel ever time.
Excessive anxiety in office presently is powered my workout today. Partnership looks like it’s breaking up after 8 years. More $ for other partner in a job offer. I’m torn between wanting him to stay–I really do–and wanting him to make mid 6 figure income. He’s a good guy.
Going back to gym tomorrow after 4 stress filled weeks. Learned to use Tums. Law partner told me Friday he isn’t a shark and that pretty well ended the madness of him leaving the practice. That madness took more out of me than recovering from first wife’s death because I sensed a chance to convince him to stay and it took absolutely all my physical/emotional strength. I saw God in action repeatedly during this experience. He provided about 1/2 year’s partnership draw I used as bribe money which I gave to my partner, a new wealthy client for law partner, and also kept me determined throughout. All because law partner is an outstanding man and lawyer. I admit I regard him as the son I never had. My 41 years’ experience tells me this practice is his best option. Friends in large law firms have agreed, and I have seen sharks’ practices come and go. He could still leave, but I don’t think so at moment. I suspect this is his midlife crisis since he abruptly listed his fine house for sale last week because of “impending nearby development”. He said he could run a taco truck in Key West but for his family obligations.
I love being a lawyer, but this experience was like a sucker punch from hell.
machine squats 3 x 8 @ 225, 340, 400 (easier than regular squats, obviously)
lying leg curls 2 x 8 @ 125, 140, 1 x 5 @ 155
deadlifts 1 x 8 @ 135, 1 x 5 @ 225, 1 @ 315 , 0 @ 325, 1 x 3 @ 295
(lower back got weaker in time off)
seated cable rows 3 x 8 @ 190, 225, 240
machine tricep pushdowns 3 x 8 @ ? sorta heavy.
Things have gotten better since I determined last week that law partner is having a midlife crisis. He turns 48 in a few weeks and he hasn’t reached all his goals. Main one seems to be a knockout new house. So, I’m getting to work to help make that happen. God’s heavily involved here.
I lost about 12 pounds in last 4 weeks, now 242ish. I surprised myself with the easiest chinups I’ve ever done. The diet info on this website really works. Now to get the strength up.
Some guy doing “squats” next to me today was saying he couldn’t go lower because was 61, so I asked how old he thought I was. He didn’t commit to a number, so I just said I’m 70 (well, in 6 months). Maybe that’ll motivate him to break parallel. Also, 66 year old regular treadmill guy fell off treadmill without a pulse today. 4 doctors ran over, fire department arrived, and they got a pulse back and him breathing after awhile. Everybody stopped working out but we all stayed well away from the activity. First time I saw that in a gym was a 40 year old who died where he fell.
pullups 2 x 8 (weight drop to 240 makes a big difference)
squats 2 x 8 @ 135, 225, 1 x 6 @ 315
hack squats 3 x 10 @ 135, 185, 235
barbell bench 1 x 8 @ 135, 1 x 5 @ 205, 2 x 3 @ 225
SGHP 1 x 8 @ 135, 1 x 5 @ 155, 1 x 6 @ 155 (rested after 2nd set)
cable rope curls 3 x 8 @ 100, 125, 135
Weighed today, I’m down to 240. 15 lb drop my wife likes. I think about 5 -10 lbs more will top it off. My deadlifts have suffered though.
Yesterday’s heart attack guy is in hospital. Dr. in gym said today the guy had l00% blockage in at least one artery–amazing-- and he’s getting a stent. Daily, the guy walks to gym from home, walks on treadmill, walks at a popular track around some nearby lakes, walks in malls when it’s too humid/hot out (i.e. summer here), and stays in above average shape at 71. That was an experience yesterday for the gym’s 40 somethings.
100%? That’s crazy. I am wondering if it runs in the family. I’ve known a couple people like that. They appear to be in really great shape, but have similar issues. Hopefully he pulls though and is able to get back at it.
Crippler, 4 handstand pushups. Ordered farmer’s carry bars yesterday for my garage, now need weights.
One would think 100% blockage would be noticeable enough to consult a doctor. Minister at church, 61, just returned from surgery for 3 bypasses. Took a friend to cardio doctor, impulsively did treadmill test and dr sent him immediately to surgery. Minister retains his overhanging gut. Also learned a 45ish guy warming up daily on treadmill at 4:45 in gym, also had a heart attack in recent past. Guy’s full of energy, and thin. Describing all that is bad enough, but mention a vasectomy and I get deathly ill.
