Imo, you ignored / avoided the best advice you were going get from @T3hPwnisher. Dude knows his stuff.
You can absolutely put on size with assistance. If you superset with the main lift, just push the last set to failure. You can even do a rest pause set. I’m older and find this much more forgiving than doing more volume with the main lifts…if you pick the right assistance and higher rep ranges. A rest-pause set of push-ups or dips a couple times a week has me feeling better than more volume on press and bench press. I like higher rep Incline DB Press to failure as well. I like single leg work for legs to keep my hips happy.
