500lb Squat PR

Well the doctor said I strained a ligament down there . Like where the spermatic cord and all that is in the pelvis. He put me on Voltaren for a few weeks to see if it gets better, I’m trying to lay low and avoid a hernia  I’m paranoid now to workout, i just want this pain to go away. It’s annoying. Do you know any good pelvic stretches or remedies to work that area below your stomach?

And I play tailback/fullback and middle backer.

SSC, thanks bro. And yeah i figured he’s probably from maybe up north or something i don’t know but i’m not sweating it.

I’ll keep you all posted on the status of this stupid set back and will have a new thread up just for the video and training footage.
For now I will be doing mostly body weight exercises I suppose starting tomorrow A.M.

I was thinking about starting a log, would you guys follow it and get some more viewers? I will put up pics here soon as well within the next week.

Awesome squat man, that stuff very inspirational as i’m a little younger than you but not yet near that strength level. Working hard though no doubt.

Thank you! Keep up the hard work. Just remember hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
Don’t set yourself any limits, or settle for less. Look at every 24 hours as another opportunity to get better, and be the best all around person and lifter you can be to the best of your ability. I think if you always do what you’ve always done you’ll always get what you’ve always got - with that being said,go for one more rep, put more weight on the bar, study harder in school and never stop being a student in anything you do.

Sleep well, appreciate & take advantage of day light and compete!

This has turned into one cool story, bros.

Damn hahaha yeah thats the plan basically, got some issues i got to figure out with my groin while squatting, most likely flexibilty issues though. So until then i’m bringing my stance in a bit.

congrats on the lift…

Back to the topic, did you guys see where I posted what the doc. said today? Now I’m kinda set back for a while :/[/quote]
Yeah. That is rather unfortunate. Let it heal and do what you can in the weight room and on the field. Doing something will be better for recovery and overall strength levels and morale than doing absolutely nothing. You think this is a result of the squat pr or more accumulation of wear and tear from football? From what you said earlier, it sounds like it was a real grinder out of the box. I have the same problem and I attribute it mainly to hip weakness. Keep squatting deep. It helps tremendously.

In regard to pelvic area, I’ve heard unilateral work like Bulgarian split squats and whatever helps pretty well. Do you think the issue with the area is strength or mobility? Knowing will help you focus on what you really need. You could also have a pelvic tilt causing you favor one leg and thus placing more stress on it.

Just keep in mind that I am not an expert and relatively inexperienced, so try to seek out a professional opinion.

haha indeed it is becoming a very interesting and helpful thread for me.

Spar I agree with you. I’m more concerned with not being able to go full go in the weight room for a while than I think my health lol. And honestly, I think this problem is just a product of a multitude of things. My dad thinks I don’t give myself enough time to rest and recover. I lift 4 days a week for football at school, Mon - Thurs. and then on top of all the 110’s, conditioning and lifting throughout the week I still can’t avoid working out and doing my own thing here at home. I might push my self to get up at 5 A.M for some light road work and an extra leg workout on friday, then eat and sleep most of the day. I’m lifting heavy quite frequently. My joints probably can use this rest and time off and I’m sure weaknesses in other areas for instance my abdomen are causes. I don’t prioritize my abs as much as I’d like. The 500 lb squat probably contributed to it as well. It was the first time I felt a half ton on my back… keep in mind I might be a well developed youngin but at barely 180 lbs ; that’s a lot of weight for my frame to support lol. I’m glad i didn’t miss the rep and I claimed the PR but because I’m an advocate of high rep squats - I don’t normally work with singles & maximal weight. (Unless its weightlifting season at school, or it’s time to max out again at the beginning and end of a month)
The point I’m making is that it’s very possible I could have strained those pelvic floor muscles coming out of the hole ; firing my hips through.

I’ll just have to wait and see if this gets any better, I was forewarned today by the doctor that it could be the beginnings of a inguinal hernia. I’m on something to reduce the inflammation of the ligaments and all down there so I’ll just have to ride it out and let coach know I guess? I’ll do what I can.

I’ll try the bulgarian split squats tomorrow with just my body weight.
Will be doing a strength circuit of primarily BW exercises. I’m off to bed, will post the workout tomorrow.

  • thanks for the responses guys.

Big weight, yes, but a ton is 2000 pounds. So 500lbs is 1/4 ton.

Other than that, congrats

Well yeah I was exaggerating that part to make a point lol - that’s what 500 on my back felt like to me at my weight. I’m no retard. And thank you - nice avatar by the way

1/4 ton can still prove the point…that’s a large amount of weight, especially for your size.

And thanks… my hair line isn’t as bad as my avatar… yet…

Damn man, 500 at 177…looking at the RAW powerlifting records, you’re within 10-15 lb of it at your weight.

Looking forward to that video.

lol what?!? There’s no way dude, there’s got to be some olympic lifters at my weight that would embarrass me.

Btw, nice of you to stop by ebomb!

Look under the 181 weight class

Oh geez. I didn’t think i was that close or even comparable to some of these guys. But look at some of their bench and dead lifts -

There’s always room for improvement with me lol.

Btw I started a log guys - check it out if you’d like.

I keep seeing different numbers for Larry Dyles

some places it’s 512, others 530 and 570? the most recent I found was 6/25/11 570? :frowning:

I gotta see this video, that’s just crazy weight for 177
