Let’s see if we can settle on an answer without too many people calling each other stupid.
Dont bring that shit storm here
If you rewrite it as
48
2(9+3)
The answer is 2.
If you wanted to multiply the quotient of 48 and 2 by the sum of 9 and 3, you’d have to write it as
(48/2)(9+3)
Multiply>divide
Why?
Cause you can lift more with multiply.
2
PEMDAS, bitches.
Also, you’re stupid.
wtf is up with the failmath in here?

Correct. Multiplication and division are on the same level of the order of operations.

If you rewrite it as 288, you’d already be done and you’d be correct.
If you rewrite it as
48
2(9+3)
thats fine, but you’re doing a different math problem.
288…
For Multiply/Divide in PEMDAS, I thought you go left to write… not multiply first, then divide.
Some folks around here need to go back to 3rd grade math class.
48/2*(9+3)=
48/212=
2412=
288
You follow the equation from Left to Right. Same as reading.
Order of Operations:
Parenthesis
Exponents
Multiply or Divide. Reading left to right. Left > Right
Add or Subtract. Reading left to right. Left > Right
lol @ 2

Yeah. It can only start a shit storm. It comes down to some people thinking multiplication comes before division in PEMDAS. But multiplication and division are of equal priority so you would read it left to right to solve.
Don’t bring that shitstorm here. I have never seen a flaming thread get so ugly
Anyway it’s ambiguously written so either is possible. better notation is needed
All how you write/say it?:
48
----- = 2 : forty-eight OVER two times nine plus three
2(9+3)
48/2(9+3)= 288 :forty-eight over two TIMES nine plus three
Damn random T-Nation forum making me feel all stooewpid
I feel like this question is designed to get people arguing and pissed off at each other. Seen it send the forums on a couple websites into pages and pages of flaming.
And the answer is write your fucking equation in a form that isn’t ambiguous at all.
Should be written as (48/2)(9+3) or 48/(2(9+3))
