46% of Mississippi Republicans want Interracial Marriage Ban

But everybody isnt treated the same to begin with.
And whose fault is that?

Does giving certain races a pass now for bad behavior, make up for another races bad decisions in the past?

Just by being white? THATS RAYCESS!!

To recap: a study was posted claiming that a large chunk of Mississippi Republicans are racist. Then came an onslaught of weirdly defensive, vaguely-related retorts, most of which were variants of “but black people are racist too!!! I know because I live near them. I’ve seen them myself!!!”. Or “the numbers in the study were probably skewed by all the racist (Republican…haha) blacks that were polled. Definitely wasn’t all the nice, progressive whites down there.” Then there’s also the above gem: “Egyptians are misogynists!!!”

These bullshit posts (which were somehow supposed to excuse the people polled in the original study or discredit the study itself?) far outnumbered and outweighed reasonable responses like “wow, that’s fucked up, those people are assholes”…a fact that illustrates just how deranged and vitriolic this forum can get.
I’m guessing from your statements about Republicans/Democrats and Abe Lincoln that you live in America or at least one of the Western democracies. Let me make a statement I assume you agree with then pose some questions:

We are in the middle of a war against Jihadists who use anti-American propaganda to undermine our war effort. Agreed?

Is it morally sound, reasonable and rational to be criticising American society at this particular time, regardless of the validity of said criticism, in light of the inherent decency of American society in comparison to our enemies?

I could post a load of unflattering stats from studies about blacks/Hispanics but unlike you, I’m not interested in widening divisions in society that have a chance of being narrowed.
Actually exposing racism is the only way of dealing with it. That would probably help create a less divided society. black racism is irrelevant to the topic, but I agree it should be exposed to.

When it comes to your point of not speaking up or questioning stuff because of a “war”, it reminds me of 1984, you know the book by orwell where the state allways is in a war to keep the people in line.

Why is that irrelevant to the topic?..if other races are just as racist, is that not exactly the topic at hand.

I love how people try and say things that directly contradict their point as “irrelevant”

the original topic of this thread was the study about mississippi republicans wanting to ban interracial marriage, the original topic was not black racism. And as smh23 pointed out, it was only brought up to excuse white racism, wich is rather sikening.

If you like to discuss non-white racism or racism in general, I can make a new thread about it.

No, White southern racism was brought up in reaction to the article. General racism including blacks was brought up as a reaction to the people bringing up white racism. And I’ve yet to see anyone excuse any racism.

For the love of Jeebus Flor.

The black racism that was brought up was the general prevalence of acceptance of blacks who are allowed speak out against mixed marriages with no repercussions.

No how the hell is that not relevant?

I don’t think there’s a clear cut definition of “racism”.
If I see a 20 yr old Crown Vic with black dudes in it driving through my subdivision - you bet I’m gonna be paying extra attention to it.
Am I “racist” ?

There were a whopping 400 selectively picked people for this study. They had to be registered republicans who usually vote in primaries. The study was done over the phone via phone robot. 8%, or 32 people consider themselves liberal??! 53% were women, 47% men, 68% were over the age of 46…
The one thing the study did not measure? Race. We don’t know if the participants where white, black, hispanic, asian, arab, indain, etc.

BUT…You all assumed them the be a bunch of Crackers, huh? Everybody thinks they are all a bunch of white-ass, cracker-ass honkeys on this survey, when in truth they could all have been black…The only white…sorry, I meant cracker-ass, honkey family in all of Mississippi is the Favre’s.

When it comes to your point of not speaking up or questioning stuff because of a “war”, it reminds me of 1984, you know the book by orwell where the state allways is in a war to keep the people in line.
Firstly, I’m not saying we shouldn’t criticise America during wartime. What I’m saying is these sorts of selective criticisms, used exclusively against America/Western democracies, are unwise/immoral considering:

 1. The achievements of the civil rights movement and the inherent LACK of racism in America/Western democracies compared to any other countries. E.g. the Sudan, where there is an actual thriving slave trade or any of the Jihadist collaborator states we are at war with. How many threads has the OP posted expressing his concern for the genocide of indigenous blacks in the Sudan or the genocidal racism practiced in many other countries across the globe?

 2. That in the midst of a worldwide war against Jihadists and collaborator Nation states who make the same accusations to undermine our war effort, it is not morally justifiable to do the same e.g. See Larry King’s fawning interview with Ahmadinejad where Ahmadinejad pretends to be a liberal progressive complaining about the number of people in US prisons(!), about the treatment of American protesters at the G20 summit, the number of American Indians killed and his asssertion that intelligence agencies should ‘work more transparantly based on humanitarian priciples’(!) - Sound familiar? I thought I was listening to Michael Moore for a moment.

 3. That using statistics from some poll that purport to show Mississippi Republican voters comprise a stupid/racist element, the implication being that these are white people, IS stirring up racial divisions. The inevitable response will be people making similar accusations against blacks/Hispanics etc.

The OP is clearly a racist who cannot/will not see what millions of migrants who come to the US for a better life can see. That they will have more oppotunities and experience less discrimination than virtually any other country on earth.

I don’t recall any part of the OP stating that the polled people were white. Yet, post upon post about black people being racist because the conservatives just assume that the people questioned are white.

What does that say?

I’m sorry, did something I ‘wrote(sic) state’ that you said ‘white people are racist’? Do you know what the word ‘implication’ means?

To post statistics purporting to show that some Republican voters in the deep south are in favour of banning inter-racial marrriage is implicating that these voters are white and racist. Endy-fuck’n-story.

Yes, the people polled were presumably mostly white (considering that likely Republican primary voters are overwhelmingly white) and at least 46% of them were overtly racist. There is no need for implication or insinuation–it is pretty explicitly straight forward.

It says your busted and you know it. You never assumed for one second that the republicans they questioned were black…

You made the assertion that these republicans questioned are white, ass-backward rednecks who are the core of the republican party.

I’m dumb, but not that dumb…
