4300 calories a day and...

I maintain weight, which I find a bit odd since all I do besides lift weights and walk to classes, (campus is built on a hill), is sit around all day. My diet is ok, not great but it isn’t going to get any better since I live on campus and am so poor. As I’ve gotten older my calorie intake has increased and I’ve gotten less active, (cardio wise), so my question is if I decrease calories would I lose weight? (not my goal).

Jerome, what are your goals? What do you want? And what are you able (and willing) to do to in the way of cardio, diet and weightlifting to move your body in that direction?

why don’t you decrease your calories for 4 weeks and see what happens. if you start to lose weight just add calories again. no one is going to be able to answer this correctly, just experiment and see what happens

and what exactly are you asking anyways? your goal is to not lose weight, but you don’t want to eat so much to maintain bodyweight? is that it?

Ya, I don’t want to eat this much the rest of my life and was wondering when it might slow down. Also wondered if anyone else eats this much to maitain without doing a whole lot.

If you are living on campus, how are you getting your food? From the cafe?
if so, how do you estimate calories?

How tall are you and what do you weigh? How many times per week do you train?

Okay, Jerome. I understand the question, now.

Unfortunately, any number of young men require that high (and higher) a caloric intake to maintain their body weight. What’s not fun is the poor hard-gainer who wants to put on muscle and who has to eat even more!

As you grow older, your metabolism will slow down. For right here and now, just try to make sure you’re making good food choices, rather than eating junk. A person who is thin and who eats junk all of their life is totally lost about what to do when all of a sudden they’ve acquired a spare tire around the middle. It can creep up on you faster than you realize.

Are you certain you’re calculating calories properly? Most people aren’t eating as many as they think.

I’m 6’ and around 190. I get all my food from meal hall, stealing it back to my room as well, I’d starve otherwise.

Also I train 3 times a week and I estimate my calories, I used a calculator for almost 2 years in highschool to count calories so I’m pretty good at it.

I just realized this is my brothers name I’m posting under and I think my last post was also which I just did. Sorry about that.

using a calorie counter, and having an accurate measure of calories is a different thing.
How do you know how the food was cooked in the hall?

I was doing something similar a little over a year ago. I had gotten calories up to 4600. Plenty of that was from protein, and I know this is exactly how much I was eating every day(unless I had a few pieces of candy or chips or that kind of shit that was around, not often). It was a pain to eat that much and I didn’t want to eat more. I gained up to 190 and just stayed there. I didn’t do much, my job was sitting all day, and for about 6 months I just stayed the same weight. I was not fat(not ripped either, but could see abs, etc)and I didn’t want to eat less and lose size and weight. Obviously I needed to eat more to gain more. However I got tired of eating that much and dropped calories to mid 2500’s. The weight came off fast. Mostly fat at first. I dropped too fast and wasn’t paying attention very well because I was distracted at that time, and I lost some muscle. In about two months I went from 190 to 172. You will have to keep eating this much or lose weight. One thing you could do is eat more protein and less carbs and fat and lower calories and try to just lose some fat. That will take off the pressure of eating so much for awhile. After awhile you can go back to eating more and it won’t seem so bad. The funny thing is, for awhile I haven’t been counting calories or protein and my job is somewhat strenuoughs and I have gained better than I was at that time. I just try to eat as much a I feel like. Obviously I must be eating a lot.
