Hi all, new here and new to the gym for quite some time. So I’m turning 40 this year, have 2 young kids, and I’m looking to better myself with eating right and going to the gym to lose fat, gain muscle, and be overall healthy for myself and my family. I began Jan 1, 2025, at 200 lbs even, and I’m 5’9”. I started going to the gym with a coworker who is also on here and taking their advice on what to eat (basic dieting and meal prepping) and workouts. It’s been going great so far. As I write this, I’m down to 189 lbs and can definitely see progress with the amount of weight I have lost and the weight I can lift and use in the gym. I guess I’m looking to pick people’s brains on ideas on how to keep this going and help me progress. I would like to get to 175 lbs and see how I am.
If it’s working don’t fix it. (Until it doesn’t work anymore.) Is your progress stalling?
It’s working so far, trying to stay on track with meals and protein intake. I’m just doing what I can with meals the usual chicken or turkey or bison with rice and spinach combos for lunch or dinner. Breakfast I usually do a Greek yogurt or overnight oats and a normal size coffee with just splash of half and half. I been trying to cut out excess sugars which I think I’m doing pretty well with.
Hello Striper, Welcome! Good work on your eleven pound weight loss. I am 5’ 9" (or was). I am around 208 lbs. Which is maybe eight more than last summer. Beside Chicken, turkey, and rice, what do you do in the gym? Split routines? Full body? Free weight work? Machines? A combination? It is hard to fine tune without some detail. Congratulations on turning 40.
So I been going to the gym with @kitchen-lift while at work for 45 min to an hour. We normally do 1 day Pull, 1 day pull & 1 day legs then just do 10-15 min walk on the treadmill on an incline. We use free weights mostly and machines if the other areas are in use.
