325x5 Conventional DL: Potential 405 Sumo?

Damn trim your videos haha

A strong conventional doesn’t necessarily = a bigger sumo. Sumo hurts my grundle way too much

“It’s ugly, but you got it”

Sums up my whole lifting career tbh.

I feel that in my soul.

pulling conventional amounts to bending over and picking a weight up off the ground with a shoulder width stance. The fact that you could not complete this task without coaching is worrisome. Also a bit worrying that your coach has your deadlift looking the way it does in this video. Maybe this is an improvement though, I admittedly haven’t seen any videos of you prior to this one.

Anyway, the stuff about sumo being a more effective deadlift stance, just as a general rule, is utter nonsense. Some people pull well using sumo, but as has already been mentioned, the vast majority of the biggest deadlifts in human history, along with the absolute biggest ones in both strongman and powerlifting, are conventional. There’s really no basis for saying sumo is cheating, if there’s no demonstrable advantage. I pull in the 600’s conventional, and I strongly doubt that I’d be able to hit any more than 500 pulling sumo right now.

And yes, I know you said ‘you were mostly joking’. But you really weren’t, right? Otherwise you wouldn’t have brought it up in the context of suggesting it would give you an advantage in trying to pull 400.
