think Kerry does not deserve to be president (www.anncoulter.org). Over 90% of the men who served with him think he’s a lying prick. When they try to exercise their free speech rights, Kerry files a lawsuit. And this man wants my vote!
How can anyone vote for this guy? Where is your soul, America?
read the news
Very devastating statistic.
JeffR
In 1999, “Fortunate Son” was pulled by the publisher after Bush legal threats.
Yep, just hate those guys who don’t allow for free speech.
From Bill O’Reilly’s blog the other day:
"I believe Jim Rassmann when he says that Kerry saved his life by pulling him out of a Vietnam river while under fire. Rassmann is a former Green Beret, a former police officer and a long time registered Republican until earlier this year. If he says John Kerry is a hero, nobody should doubt it. Rassmann has earned the right to be trusted and insulting his testimony is way out of line ?
"It is absolutely wrong for Americans to condemn Kerry’s war record because he demonstrated provable valor. However, those who distrust him do deserve to be heard although facts not emotion should be demanded.
“I think the Swift Boat political advertisement calling Kerry a charlatan is in poor taste, and if this kind of thing continues it might well backfire on the Kerry haters. Most Americans are fair minded, and bitter personal attacks do not go down well with folks who are not driven by partisanship.”
As we all know, in a court of law the more witnesses to a crime the more likely that the person is guilty. Can 254 witnesses all be wrong?
Why would 254 service men all swear that John Kerry is unfit to be President? Maybe there is a logical reason for one, or two. Maybe even ten, but all 254? I would say that there has to be something to this story.
Furthermore, I think that the more Kerry and his people attempt to use legal maneuvering to hush the story, the longer the story will play.
I feel that Kerry is in a no win situation.
Are you kidding? Only a handful of these retards actually served with Kerry. It’s like me saying I spent last night with Carmen Electra, because I watched her workout video.
Key figures in the Swift Boat hit squad are all proven liars. So when somebody says they take their word over Kerry’s, they are endorsing liars.
One more thing, about the possible Kerry lawsuit to stop the ads, based on the contention that the Swift Boat Liars are connected directly to the Bush campaign (making their ads illegal… a 527 group can have no direct connection to the candidate):
In the Swift Boat Liars ad, Kenneth Cordier says, John Kerry ?betrayed us in the past. How could we be loyal to him now??
The ad does not, for some reason, identify Kenneth Cordier as a member of the veterans steering committee of the Bush-Cheney 2004 re-election campaign.
BUSTED!!!
so there are 254 people who weren’t on the same boat and they’re all talking bullshit, contradicting themselves and taking money left and right… oh yeah there’s definitely something behind the story.
c. rove and g. w. bush.
While John Kerry was volunteering for one of the most dangerous assignments in the Navy, George Bush was getting his teeth cleaned in Alabama. That’s all we know about Bush’s service between 72 and 73: that he went to the dentist once.
But we all know how brave you gotta be, to get your teeth cleaned! Man, that can really be uncomfortable sometimes!
Lumpy, Danh,
Just for a moment, could we drop the partisan masks? Just for a second.
Can we agree on one thing? This is it: John Kerry’s response to the book and the ads is not politically wise.
Yes, I’m testing you to a degree. I want to see if it is possible for you to disagree with your candidate on any issue. This one seems quite obvious to me.
By trying to use legal muscle to stop the publisher of the book and deny air time, John Kerry seems like he has something to hide. His response has given free publicity to these ads. Money and support has begun to pour in. Worse, he seems like his party can dish but can’t take. Worst of all, the Democrats are quickly drifting into First Amendement issues. By trying to limit what is “acceptable” viewing and reading, we are beginning to tread on the First Amendement guarantees.
I have consistently supported “you know who’s” right to cut and paste. It is his right to spew whatever propaganda he thinks will sell.
Let me start the mask dropping. I’ll lead by example. Some of the public relations problems W. is having is due to his reluctance to have more press conferences. I think that is a mistake.
Can my colleagues on the left acknowledge my challenge?
I am eagerly awaiting your reply,
JeffR
P.S. I am expecting Danh, Lumpy, RSU to employ smoke and mirrors. I am expecting them to sidestep my challenge.
jeff… i see your point but this is no longer a 1st ammendment issue… campaign finance rules are in effect… i guess we’re gonna wait to see what the courts have to say about this.
btw… i am not a leftist loser or whatever people like to label kerry supporters. i am just fed up with this administration on so many levels.
presidential politics has sunk to a new low.
I think it’s funny how so many people who have never seen combat in any way shape or form feel qualified to evaluate someone else’s experience of it. Has Kerry said some stupid things with regard to the Vietnam War? Yes. Did he go and perform under fire? Yes. Did he probably want to get the hell out of there as soon as possible? Probably. Did Bush ever go? No. Was Bush’s decision to join the Air National Guard an attempt to avoid service in Vietnam? Answer that for yourself. There is a whole lot of rock throwing in this neighborhood of glass houses, that much is certain.
Jeff, I’ll jump in.
If Kerry tries to shut them down and fails it will be quite negative. If he tries to shut them down and succeeds, it will be quite positive.
I think what you mean to say is that it is a politically RISKY maneuver. I don’t think we have the brainpans to deem it unwise at this point.
Hmm, you know, kind of ironic that a man who was awarding for having courage under fire is willing to have the courage to take this risk today. Maybe it says something about his character (if you look at it)?
On the flip, we have someone who is trained to say “its not my fault” while expecting someone else to take care of the mess for him.
[edited to fix typo]
Vroom,
I have to disagree! If Kerry does not shut them down then the ads continue to hurt him. If Kerry does shut them down the public will want to know (even More) what the advertisements were all about. Also, he looks bad in doing it.
I would think this regardless of political affiliation.
(1) Kerry brought all this on himself. He began their convention with a salute and military greeting. He is running on his heroism of 34 years ago and not discussing his senate record. Then, he has the temerity to say, “You want to discuss military service? Bring it on!” . What a jackass!
(2) Isn’t it ironic that his supporters today would’ve called him a babykiller and spat on him in 1970? They would have lauded Bush for avoiding going to 'Nam.
(3) I want to vote for Kerry but can’t figure out which one.

Clinton’s been out of office for four years - why bring him into this argument?
I’ve been in a muscle relaxer-induced coma for the past week, so maybe I’m missing something - But, didn’t Kerry and his boys file suit with the FEC and not in the courts?
If that is the case - this is all pointless. The FEC will do nothing about it this election cycle. They are worthless and Kerry knows this.
Yes, he was naively expecting people to discuss his service record, not make up politically motivated bullshit about his time in service…
You are welcome to disagree. Jeff asked for opinions and he got one… disagree all you want.
vroom,
Thanks for your post. Pretty balanced, on the whole.
Zeb, is right. He’s in some trouble over this now. I’m concerned about the changing of the dates of Cambodia when it was supposed to have been “seared” into him. I’m concerned about the implications of filing false reports. I’m concerned about his reaction in general. I think you are right. It does shine a light on his character. Unfortunately, for you, I think you see flip-flopping in it’s most raw form.
Again, if he’s telling the whole truth, what does he have to gain by trying to shut this down?
I’ve been reading Mr. Rood’s and the other swift boat captains statements purportedly supporting Kerry’s contention. I’m curious if anyone has a link to their statements in their entirety. At issue is: Was he under fire during the rescue of Rasmussan?
So far all I’ve been able to ascertain is that Rood and the other commander want to set the record straight. So what exactly did they say?
Thanks,
JeffR
Maybe the Swift Vets are bent because they believe his service records are “politically motivated bullshit.” If Kerry was writing the primary reports… well then, may they not be as accurate a depiction of his service as the staged footage of him strolling around in battle gear? Or maybe not- we should ask Lumpy, he feels he knows.
Heros, one gathers from the literature, don’t tend to draw attention to themselves, especially not with staged film footage. Curious.
I’d say by the reaction of the Donkeys these ads have really hit a nerve.
