24 Year Old Male Considering TRT

Lets start simple. I am a 24 year old male weighing in at 298lbs. For the last 7 months i have been going to the gym 5-6 times a week and training hard for 2 hours or more. I have been eating at a caloric deficit etc. I became concerned after about 5 months where i had only lost approx 30lbs. So to the doc i went. He doubted me having low t but he ran the test anyways.

My test came back at 251.4. He only ran a test for Test Total. Also ran my thyroid and it came back at 4.05. Now i know both of these numbers suck. His lab says test will be 241.0-827.0 ng/dl. I called him after i received these results and he assures me both numbers are normal.

Although i feel at my age the testosterone is extremely low and my Thyroid number shows hypothyroidism. Per a recommendation from a trainer at the gym i asked if he would run a more in depth testosterone test and he again assured me my test was normal and we could recheck in 6 months. Opinions on what i should do? Im really struggling on building muscle and losing weight and im fairly confident these correlate.

You’re dealing with an idiot doctor, 251 at 24 years old is insane, those are levels you would expect for a 90 year old man. He’s playing the numbers game and ignoring your symptoms, this is how you know for sure he doesn’t understand anything about male hormones. There’s a good reason why most experience endo’s like to see their parents in the 800-1000 range, because that’s where we were in our 20’s when we were healthy. Can you imagine where you’ll be in 20 more years if the situation continues, you’re already running on an empty tank and at risk for all the diseases associated below 500 ng/dL. Your endo isn’t even following the guidelines for TRT, considering the labs AND symptoms. He’s useless and should be taken outside and ****! Lol

Time for another doctor.

This doctor is my PCP. Im taking it you believe i should see an endo and get all my tests done and post those numbers? Also, does TRT have sucess behind it? I have beeb studying it a lot but im wary.

TRT has a lot of success stories behind it and if done right there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work. I think the biggest problem with TRT and all the complaints of how it doesn’t work for a lot of guys has more to do with the doctors failing the patients rather than TRT failing. Most endo’s are clueless when it comes to male hormones and only those who stay ahead of the curve will carve out success for their patients. It’s typical for most to shuffle through many different endo’s before one finds one skilled enough, there’s a lot of stupid ignorant people in the world who are content staying that way in blissful ignorance. I call it the “The path of least resistance” aka laziness.

I live in a small town and am limited on local endos. Considering checking my closest cities for test clinics. Buffalo, NY Rochester, NY and Erie, PA

If you can’t find anything in your area, check out Defy Medical (http://www.defymedical.com). They will run comprehensive panels which you can post here. Your other option is to go to discountedlabs.com and get the comprehensive male hormone panel done. That will also tell you most of what you need to know.

Good luck with your journey. TRT has changed my life.

Your test levels suck! With that said I would start working straight away on lowering your TSH to 1.0 Depending on the lab companies ranges, while your struggle with weight and now hormone levels may be related to that as well. Please do not discount your thyroid or you may find TRT (if prescribed) to have less benefit than you may hope.
