225lb Bench For Reps World Record Attempt for Charity

Registered my intention to set a new WR with Guiness World records last night, the process takes up to three months, so, fingers crossed!

Is it still relevant today?

I’m not sure what you mean?

Are you still attempting the record on the 10th of october.

And any news about Guiness World Records ?

Yep, I’m still going for it and no, I haven’t heard anything from Guinness Records yet.

Do you think we will be able to see your performance ?

Yes, definitely, I’ve recently been practicing talking (with a professional film maker) about my experiences of mental health problems and why I want to do this for Mind. The details of exactly where I’m going to film this and other details are yet to be figured out, but hopefully once Guinness Records get back to me it will be a bit clearer.

Update:

I’ve recently bench pressed 112kgs x 60 reps + about 6 days ago I finally got a response from Guinness records asking for clarity about my record attempt…should find find out soon hopefully if they’ll accept my entry.

Update:

Bench pressed 102kgs x 100 recently :sunglasses:

Guinness World Records have recently informed me that they will not be accepting my bench press 225lb for reps as a WR…soooooo, being the contrarian minded SOB that I am, I’ve decided to shoot for an UNOFFICIAL WR of 250lbs x 100 reps (about 113.6kgs) by the 10th of October to raise money for Mind.

Why is that not a record?

This is the reason they gave for rejecting my application:

‘I’ve spoken with the wider team and we wouldn’t do a record for most consecutive 225 lb bench presses, as it is a little too specific and would then open us up to similar records for every other weight category’.

That’s pretty shit given how standard 225 is and that they have records specific to YouTube and Spotify.

Anyway, amazing to see this progress. You can probably get some TV station on board if you wanted

Given the total clownshoes operation of powerlifting “world records”, I can absolutely see why they do this.

Bro, 225x100 is already MORE than enough to raise $$ for something - throw that vid up and I’ll contribute!

As an aside, I’d have countered with “the 225# Bench is an NFL combine event and is the only mainstream rep-based bench weight across all sports, powerlifting included.”

Probably meaning that someone could do “most consecutive 205-pound bench presses”, “most consecutive 195-pound bench presses”, “most consecutive 225-pound leg presses”, “most consecutive 225-pound calf raises”, etc.

Great to hear your progress. Would love to get a sneak peek at a vid.

I still say go for an unofficial/internet-official record. Or break the current Guinness record for “most bench presses in one minute”. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, it’s currently 15,344 pounds. With 225, that’d be about 70 reps in one minute. Or break down the total volume to whatever hits that number.

Also, if you’re doing this in October, I hope your social media presence is already up and running to get momentum and attention leading up to it. Waiting until the last-minute on that will really short-change your potential reach. At the very least, get an IG page going.

Thanks Chris, I’m probably going to do an intro vid & start getting everything connected up on social media within the next 6 weeks or so.

You could also hit up the big lifting pages on Instagram with hundreds of thousands of followers and ask for them to share it.

That was almost 8 weeks ago, so how’re things on this end?

You’re less than 7 weeks out from the target now. If your social isn’t up and running at this point, you’re way behind the ball for getting the word out. A handful of posts a couple weeks before the event will only do so much and it’d suck to not have this get the eyes it should.

Glad I’m not the only one anxiously waiting for an update lol

This came and went, but since you haven’t posted anything since mid-August, I’m just hoping all’s good by you, big man.
