2024 Presidential Candidate Talk

I agree.

He just looks so good because of what we currently have, but still sucks in reality.

Sad state of affairs.

Yes.

Desantis and Trump are in a battle to see who can out right the other. They are the far right candidates so far in the GoP. In general, I think winning independents is easier for a moderate to do (as most independents are moderate).

I’ve heard a lot of GoP strategists lately that are worried about the primary system nominating candidates that are too extreme for the general election. I don’t think they are wrong.

The thing is…i know alot of far right individuals and they dont think Trump or Desantis falls in the far right category

That is because they are far right. They likely see both as sensible candidates. I am just saying that I think most people see them as far right.

It’s kinda a perspective thing. If you hang around a hard core gym, being muscular seems normal. You don’t see yourself as being muscular. Then you go to a public event and you don’t see yourself as those things, you just see others as being weak and fat. They are the not normal ones.

I have friends that range from fairly far left to fairly far right. Friends that would have voted for Bernie, and ones that voted for Trump. Also plenty towards the middle from my perspective. Most towards the middle or a bit to the left of middle view both Trump and Desantis as far right. Most towards the middle or a bit to the right view someone like Bernie as far left. It seems only the far right view Biden as far left. Most others put him as left of center, but not extreme.

not trying to argue or debate

what policies put in forth by Trump do you consider Far Right?

just trying to get a sense of what your petception of far right is

As for Biden

  1. Bigger government is far left.
  2. Regulating your appliances is far left.
  3. Higher taxes is far left.
  4. More gun control is far left.

just a couple off the top of my head

Neither of those is exclusively far left. There is no ideological reason why a far right dictator wouldn’t raise taxes or confiscate guns.

The tax cuts (more so how they were structured), judicial nominations, immigration are a few.

This is something that a majority of people left of center support. The further left you go, the more support increases, but I wouldn’t say it is an only far left thing. There is a much larger gap between the parties than between divisions of each group when it comes to expanding the government. Because so few right of center support a larger government, a bigger government is seen as far left by many on the right.

I don’t know enough to comment. I’d guess current stuff would be grandfathered in.

We may look back and see a gas stove like how we now see leaded gasoline. I wouldn’t say it is a far left position to ban the latter. IDK about the former yet.

I think this is the same as the bigger government. Most left of center support higher taxes on corporations and high income individuals. Interesting to me that according to Pew the populist right also supports these things.

I’d say the fact that the populist right supports higher taxes on high income households and thinks corporations make too much profit exclude it from being far left.

More than half of Americans support stricter gun laws. I think that excludes it from being a fringe far left idea.

Just to be clear, I am not giving my positions. Just my thoughts on where people stand and where the ideas are on the spectrum from far right to far left.

Ever since Gov DeSantis went on his diet his clothes are too big. He looks like a kid wearing his dad’s suit.

I am middle class, therefore tax cuts benefited me

More regulations on appliances means higher costs, when it actually does nothing to help the planet,

judicial nominees that were appointed follow constitutional law, that is what you want as a supreme court judge…not idealogical

also, both sides appoint their own side when it comes to judges

Just my 2 cents of opinions

Its always tax the rich or corporations when in reality, the middle class and poor consumers ending paying more…either thru product costs or loop holes in the laws because we cannot afford the tax lawyers like the rich can

Not critiquing here, just pointing out that there are two basic types of readings of the law (my wife told me the kinds, but I forget maybe @Bauber can remind me) and that’s primarily where the difference comes in.

One would hope judges don’t put their own political biases into reading the law, but they do, and everyone knows this.

Until the countries that supply the raw materials for stuff get on board, I completely agree. And I really do want to help the environment. Bad policies are not the way.

Agreed.

They did. Me too. The issue is those weren’t permanent like the tax cuts for corporations. They also didn’t pay for themselves (like promised). They are causing a larger deficit currently.

The thing is that judges are usually smart enough to spin things the way they want to. There is enough gray area in the constitution, and cases going back centuries that they can find justification to go their way in many cases.

In this case though it wasn’t loop holes. It was right in the bill. We all got tax cuts, but the bill gave corporations permanent ones and us temporary ones. When making the bill, they could have closed some of the loop holes as well.

Fully agree. They will find a justification to go the way that the party that nominated them wants unless it is just way to crazy. Both left and right are guilty of this, but IMO, Trump’s nominations were more right wing than what a typical Republican president would do.

See, thats where the oxymoron comes in…dictators are not really far right, they are actually far left…i.e. bigger government which means more regulations which means higher taxes to pay for both and confiscating of your guns to keep paying the higher taxes

thats my perspective on it anyways

imho
small government, lower taxes, strong capitalist economy, strong military, law and order, the bill of rights, live and let live is the government we need

Paid for with higher taxes. They also increase the size of government.

Not if it means kids getting mutilated or having degenerates in the classroom.

Agree with you on your second point

I have not seen any of Trumps supreme court appointees go to the far right during their decisions or votes on any cases yet…not saying they haven’t, just not aware of any

They don’t come more establishment than “Bernie.”

Had to put it in quotes to prevent confusion between establishment Bernie Sanders and “Bernie”(Joey B.).

To be clear, the Bernie I was referring to is the dead guy from the movie, where the other characters were manipulating his limbs or something to make it appear that Bernie was still alive.

…guess who I’m referring to in real life, based on this thread.

It was totally clear.

I swear there is a puppet master(s) behind the scenes, laughing it’s head off, who is an aficionado of the Bernies movies, who decided to “kill” Bernie Sanders when it looked like he was going to win, and anoint Uncle Joe instead.
