2024 Presidential Candidate Talk

I use the google app on my phone to check baseball news. I think I might have read one story about DeSantis announcing recently.

Now, every. single. time. I click on the google app, there’s a new negative story on DeSantis staring me in the face.

It’s so hilarious.

I think you are referring to textualism versus originalism. There are nuances of each. Most judges and attorneys will be pluralists combining all or multiple of the nuances depending on the issue.

If i remember correctly, Scalia was a textualist and Comey-Barrett is one also

Scalia espoused a conservative jurisprudence and ideology. He advocated textualism in statutory interpretation and originalism in constitutional interpretation.

If the Republicans can just nominate someone sane, they’ll be fine. Especially if Joe doesn’t get a new VP. It doesn’t have to be a RINO. Just someone sane.

I don’t think either party has the guts to turn its back on the extremists.

I think these days much of the Conservative Party would think good ol’ GW was too liberal.

When wasn’t he?

I feel like this is the best chance in a long time for a centrist third party.

I fall in this camp lol.

The vast swath of the idiot peasantry on both sides is far too dumb for this to ever happen.

What would this look like? I mean, Trump himself is pretty(maybe very) centrist.

I should have qualified “sane centrist”.

Fair, but you also haven’t come to your views just because you were told what to think (this is a problem for many people across the political spectrum).

So, Trump’s policies without being combative/controversial?

Exactly

That guy is going to be attacked the same way as Trump, and he’s either going to fold…or become Trump-like if he wants to stand a chance in the presidential election.

I would add, Trump’s policies without GOP influence. I saw two Trumps, the candidate and the president. They were not the same.

That’s a good point. I think a lot of people are wanting the opposite: Neocon Trump.

Well after digesting a few lawyer takes on the Trump indictment it sure seems like he fucked up. Whether that translates to jail time or simply another national embarrassment of an election remains to be seen. If it came down to Trump running in an orange jumpsuit and Joe Biden, I’m going to have to vote for Trump. I’m not throwing my vote away on Cornell West or some other independent.

I’m generally in favor of prosecuting powerful people who commit serious crimes, but the obviously troubling issue here is the double-standard. It is so glaring that it becomes obvious that the double-standard is the point. Not unlike how we’re told to accept the notion that men are women upon declaration, and that it is imperative to impart this information to children as young as K-3.

These are not markers of a healthy republic.

Double Standard? Come on man, what VP Pence did with classified documents was totally different.
