2024 Presidential Candidate Talk

Republicans showing the Democrats how to use leverage. Anyone advocating for FTV has been vindicated. And all of those phony leftists like Cenk of TYT, Sam Seder of the Majority Report etc. all have egg on their face. All claiming that McCarthy could be Speaker if the fraud squad didn’t vote for Pelosi. Fucking liars!

McCarthy at exactly 50%, no Speakership! It almost got physical!!!

Sad!!!

Make America Competent Again. MACA.

Probably belongs in the confessions thread, but me too.

I don’t know much about Jeffries or Mccarthy, so I’m rooting for the comet.

Jeffries is a Democrat, he’s getting all 212 Democratic votes ad infinitum.

Another anti-McCarthy dude just switched to “present”, which will change the math to McCarthy getting more than 50% of actual votes cast. (present means abstain basically)

McCarthy will make it now on the 15th vote.

Yeah. Looks like the votes are swinging from other to present.

“For the will of the American people” is the new " not that there’s anything wrong with that ".

The parting words of Jefferies couldn’t have been more disingenuous if they were written on toilet paper and used to wipe a sick poodles ass.

2 corporate assholes like the vast majority of politicians.

“Hey! I have something to say too!”

Thats the Constitutional Republic at work

Its so sad that due to a speaker not being elected, we can’t send Ukraine another $100 billion, or pass another $1.7 trillion dollar 4,000 page omnibus bill, and especially pass conservative lip service bills that are dead on arrival in the Senate.

Don’t listen to the talking heads, bickering and gridlock is good. It’s not supposed to be smooth.

It should be smooth. Because it should be so limited that there’s little to debate.

I have no problem with this stuff, but the fact that Thomas Massie isn’t a holdout while a bunch of dipshits are…and I see our “conservative” holdouts have nominated a black guy…I can only assume in hopes of winning the Skin Color Olympics. Trojan Horses, I’d say.

Well McCarthy got his votes. Is everyone relieved?

I sure am. Now, they can get back to agreeing on a bunch of expensive stuff, and stop disagreeing on a ceremonial position.

The gridlock was a power grab by a slim minority. It’s a really fucking bad look, imo. This was never about actual policy. It was ‘we want powerful committee positions that we know we can’t get otherwise.’.

America doesn’t benefit from this nonsense.

Don’t know if it’s true or not since I have zero clue (or interest) in the arcane details of politics. But, the claim is that the giant shit show spending bill would not have passed with these new “concessions” in place. i.e. supposedly no easy deals just because the Speaker is in favor

Welcome to politics…happens on all sides

Does America benefit from any politics at this point?

Seems like the only ones benefitting are politicians, big corporations, their friends and family, foreign countries, and illegal immigrants.

I agree with @flipcollar on this one. This was out of the norm even for politics. I mean this is all within one party. Lots of childish stuff going on. I think the point is trying to out “right” others in the house who are also on the right?

McCarthy certainly has played childish games himself (like when he was whip, got his party to vote on a bill, then voted present himself, because it didn’t play well with the base). He deserves it lol, but it’s still a bad look.

No different than the squad on the democrat side imo, and this isn’t the first or second time it took many ballots to put a speaker in

I’d say that was out of the norm too though.

IIRC, the last time it took this many votes to get a speaker in was in the 1920s. It has happened, you are right. It isn’t normal though, as it was about 100 years ago that it happened last.
