2011 NFL Draft

^ No way in Hell that there is no NFL next year. The draft will happen and as the #1 pick he can have a contract before he even steps on stage. The NFL could not recover from a year off, the deal will get done. Way to many people will lose money if there is a lockout.
The owners can, and the players might be to hard headed to back down, they are competitors after all. It is such a weird sit. The owners can sit out a season, every one kn ows this, but the Players union is apparently throwing up this huge bluff to try and get some incentives for them. It just seems like the owners are more than happy to sit it out and not give any further compensation to the players. Unless they are bluffing as well. With potential NFL and NBA locouts you just know the NHL comissioner is sitting there like some canadian Dr. Evil, stroking his hairless cat and waiting for the sports world to finally be all his in 2011.

^ Yes but the owners are going to get pressure from the networks, do you really think NBC, CBS, FOX and EXPN are going to let the owners obstruct a deal from getting done. Both sides are bluffing, we are talking Billions of dollars here.

Well WC with a new coach he could flip the team and really tank next year so could happen. BUT the NFC west is so weak you could have another year like this year.
I dont think it will be a stretch that every team in the west minus the cardinals could win 4 more games next year than this. That amounts to 3 out of 4 teams being right around ten games or better. None of em will be sb picks but after this year I am convinced the NFC west has three of the most promising upsides of any of the weaker or mid of the road teams in the league right now.

^ Interesting, I can see the Rams even getting better because of Bradford. But 49rs new coach and no QB, Cardinals unproven QB or pulling in new QB and Defense 29th in league, Seattle QB 95 years old so probably going to be new QB or untest Whitehurst. Sorry I dont see 3 teams winning 3-4 more games.

NFC south is getting better with Saints, Bucs and Atlanta. NFC east Dallas and Washington may struggle but the other two are solid. NFC north you got Bears, Green Bay going strong, with Detroit getting better (QB) Vikings may have subpar year because of QB situation. So next year NFC west will put one team in the playoffs, just dont know what that record will be.

I can’t believe nobody has mentioned A.J. GREEN from my school, UGA.

Possible #1 overall draft pick.

^ WR #1 ask Matt Millen how that turned out for him in Detroit. I will say he will go in somewhere between 9-20.

I know its a big stretch, but I see all of them more than most people. They have all been making great moves that are improving them. All three of them could have easily haD THE DEC. GO Their way in at least two of the games they lost this year. All three are missing some fundamental keys, but the holes are getting smaller. For instance, the Hawks need a lockdown corner, without it we are vulnerable in evry way but with it, we have two athletic intelligent safeties to roam the field for to’s instead of always helping in coverage cuse the CB cant cut it. In addition, they were second in the league against the run until Red BRyant went down. So we could honestly go from a team that will give up 30 plus to =anyone to one who is not only hard to score on but creates alot of TO’s as well.

I am not saying it’s not optimistic, but the NFC west has been doing some quality building while also losing alot due to random injuries the last couple of years.

One thing to miss about cable Matt Millen vs. Steve Young. I loved it all last year. Even better than Dungy vs. Harrison cause they werent professional enought to not go at each other throats. i didnt see it but I heard Millen handed it to Young this year.

Only thin g better was Punk ass Mel Kiper being so scared of John Gruden that he was actually quiet for the majority of the draft weekend last year. Who was your number one qb last year again Mel? Jimmy Clausen? wow.

NFL is a QB driven league, regular season you can get by with gimmick stuff, but to make post season and go deep in playoffs have to have a QB. That is where the NFC west is lacing, Bradford is money and will grow. The other three teams have no franchize QB yet. To me its just plain and simple. That is why I was asking if Whitehurst could be a Romo, Shaub or Cassell?

Was it MattyXL or DJHT that I made the bet with in regards to the Cardinals and 49ers final record?

I believe that the 49ers won me that bet, time for me to pick out someones avatar…

Millen is a smart guy, but he was raw and didnt understand upper management. I dont watch ESPN much in talking NFL. I watch the NFL network, Mike Mayock has his shit together. He blows Mel “dont mess with my hair” Kiper out of the water. Plus NFL network has the combine coverage which is great.

Absolutely correct. Seattle could get two lockdown corners and the next Ronnie Lott at safety and they still won’t be shit with Hasselbeck or Whitehurst at QB. You want to know HOW QB-driven the league is?

I can name all sorts of great players at literally every position who played on bad teams for pretty much the entirety of their career. Barry Sanders and OJ are the first two to come to mind. But there are literally ZERO great QBs who played for dogshit teams for almost their entire career. Sure, there’s a lot that never won the Super Bowl, Marino and Tarkenton for instance. But even, then there aren’t more than a handful of great QBs who didn’t at least play in a Super Bowl. It’s that pivotal of a position.

Unless Seattle thinks Hasselbeck or Whitehurst can take them to the Promised Land or they plan on going after a QB via free agency, they’d better look long and hard at QBs in this draft. Otherwise they’re just begging for mediocrity. 7-9 probably won’t win the division next year. With Bradford on the rise in St. Louis and SF hopefully about to land a coach who knows how to actually utilize their offensive talent, Seattle is the third-most talented team in the division right now.

In fact, every team that doesn’t feel they have the answer at QB should look for one in every draft until they DO have the answer.

Was not me, had to be Matty I predicted the Cardinals to suck ass this year. I actually had the 49rs winning the division cause I thought Smith would do better. Didnt see the Rams doing that well this year.

DB Carroll will have the D playing better for sure, but who is his OC? Who ran the offense at USC? I mean they had a system in place there while Carroll was HC. Seems every year they had a QB that was being pushed to the top of the draft.

Steve Sarkisian, who saw Locker regress under his tutelage at Washington and Norman Chow. Chow’s at UCLA as the OC and Sarkisian is the head coach at UW. I don’t think those two are going to make any difference with Hasselbeck though. He’s done. Whitehurst might step it up as QB, but if it takes a certain person to turn him into a good QB at this point in his career, he probably isn’t going to be a good QB to begin with.

^ Thanks I coulndt remember but now you said them I do. Do you know who the OC is at the Hawks? Stranger shit has happened in the NFL lately. Look at Cassel, didnt start ever through any level until Brady got hurt.

i think bradford would’ve been better if the OC called more passes in the SEA game… and his WR weren’t dropping passes left and right…

bradford only goes up from here… i think what st.louis has done in the last season is pretty solid… they are almost back on track to start winning games above .500

speaking of cassel i think its the system in NE… their qb’s aren’t forced above their talent level and doesn’t have to carry the team… they maximize their talents and minimize their mistakes… no player has to do more then he can… i mean obv brady can win the game for them but look at all the oldies they have on their team. NE is a whole different beast…

I’m baseball not football but KNBR is reporting Harbough (sp?) Will be announced as new head coach of the niners today at three.

Back to the QB convo, carry on.
