Dude, that pass was out the box. Freakin Rondo scores 29 points, 18 rebounds (18 bounds for a point guard!) and 13 assists in one game! Only two other players in NBA history have put up numbers like that in the playoffs: Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson. That was quite a pass and quite a performance. Now the Big Three are the Supporting Cast Three. This is Rondo’s team now.
And here’s a sampling of Kobe’s last second game winning shots just this season: 6 in all. He is one of the best closers in NBA history. If I had one last second shot and I could choose any player in NBA history to take it, I would still take Kobe over Jordan (with close consideration to Larry Bird as well). Although Jordan was just as clutch the difference between the two is the Kobe can make more impossible acrobatic shots (from distance, Kobe has more long distance range than Jordan ever did) where sometimes in a last second situation, that’s all you have offered to you.
Case in point, the first shot on this video is the running side-ways three point shot over Dwayne Wade for the win against Miami. I was at a bar that night and the place freakin erupted.
I was watching that Miami game. People that didn’t see that Bucks game don’t realize he hit basically an identical shot to send the game to OT. I don’t care what anyone says, he is still the best dude touching a basketball today. And, if he can get his injuries sorted out he’ll be the best next year, and I feel if he stays healthy will win another MVP.
I was actually going to post that Miami game when I got home. When he hit that shot me and my sister started screaming and jumping and you could here people from other apartments screaming thru the walls.
That has been the highlight of this years season for me thus far. That shot was INCREDIBLE.
So who took Suns over Spurs in 4 games after the Spurs took it to the Mavs in the first round?
Anybody? Anybody?
Me
Seriously? You called this Phoenix team to sweep Duncan and company after they took apart Dallas?
Well done.
Care to call the Suns/Lakers series before it starts?

This was shocking. Just the Suns beating them was a little surprising to me never mind a sweep. Especially after what the Spurs did to the Mavs (a team everyone thought could dethrone the Lakers). Wow. Just Wow.
Still, the NBA is all about matchups and the Lakers own this matchup with the Suns. I’m calling Lakers in 6 with at least one blow out game by the Suns over the Lakers where the run and gun and score like 120 + points. ![]()

Alright, this post is for the Laker’s fans on this thread. These are the two most exciting last second playoff shots for the Lakers in the last decade. I saw them both live and I hit the roof both times they happened and was buzzing for days after. Anyone whose been a long term Lakers fan knows these shots.
Western Conference Finals, Game 4 against the Kings, 2002
The Lakers were already down 2 games to 1 against the Kings. In a must win game 4 for the Lakers, they were down 20 points in the first quarter and down a total of 24 points at one point in the game! I don’t think I need to remind anyone that losing both games on your home floor and going down 3 games to 1 is almost a prescription for a series loss. The Lakers come crawling back culminating all the way to the last play in the fourth quarter with the Lakers down by 2 points with 11 seconds left. I let the video do the talking from here.
This to me was the most unbelievable finish I’ve ever seen to a playoff game and I’ve never seen Staples center that loud or buzzing that much for that long. I still get chills every time I watch this video and relive it all over again. What makes this more significant is this was the last year the Lakers won the championship in their 3peat bid.
Western Conference SemiFinals, Pivotal Game 5 against the Spurs, 2004
The team that wins game 5 when tied 2 games to 2 goes on to win the series 83 percent of the time. I watched the Lakers control this whole game and then freakin Tim Duncan is trying to dump the ball off to one of his teammates, he can’t do it, so he dribbles across the top of the key and shoots the ball going sideways off the wrong foot and makes the damn shot to leave 0.4 seconds left on the clock. I was so freakin pissed off I couldn’t contain my anger. Of all people to do this, Tim Duncan? He’s not a last second shot guy. He’s a freakin methodical center/power forward who never does things like this. I was thinking we were going to lose the game on a shot like this when we controlled the whole game??? The low I felt at that point was overwhelming.
But I decided to keep watching partially because I was too shocked to move. Well then Gary Payton is trying to find a teammate to pass the ball into with 0.4 seconds left on the clock. I thought it was near impossible to get a shot off from your fingertips before that clock would expire so to me it was a near impossible feat to get this game. Again, I’ll let the video do the talking from here…
Once again, I hit the roof. I was so excited I didn’t know what to do with myself. I can remember the next day at work vividly on a Friday watching that video online over and over again. I floated that whole day and the rest of the weekend. I never experienced such a low one second (with Duncan’s shot) to such a high the next second (Fisher’s shot) in my life.
And whether you love or hate the Lakers, this is why I watch sports. For moments like these, I can’t think of any other area in life where you can achieve this level of excitement in the moment. Hello T-Nation, my name is Randman and I’m a sports junkie lifer.

Um please don’ bring that series up. Everyone knows by now that series was tainted. It was so obvious when it happened when the Lakers won in 7 and only reemphasized when Donaghy came out after his scandal.

It doesnt matter that it was a sweep because the Suns were going to beat the Spurs anyway, they just matched up better (3 point shooting). It was better than delaying the inevitable for the Spurs.
Suns/Lakers is going to be crunk as.

I understand the criticisms. The bottomline, however is that the Kings choked away game 7 in the fourth quarter. They couldn’t hit a shot or a free throw. I know this was a very controversial series but it was still extremely exciting to watch. One of the most exciting I’ve seen and fortunately worked out for the team I was rooting for. But again, I understand the criticisms.
W/E but I agree it was one of the most exciting and entertaining basketball playoff series of all time. This was the pinnacle of basketball in the 2000s.
We are two posts behind the Stanley Cup playoffs thread post count. Keep posting people! I want you to post about what you think of the playoffs thus far, your predictions, how basketball has changed your life, naked pics of your Gfs, etc…
Need some kind of +/- on Orlando’s margin of victory tonight, say like 15. Atlanta might be as out of it mentally as I’ve seen a team be in recent memory.
Alright, I’ll make my predictions. It will be Lakers in 6 against the Suns. The cavaliers will beat the celtics in 7 and then they will lose to the Magic in 6. And after watching the Lakers get the wake up call against OKC and considering how they’ve played since I feel like they’re rounding into championship form I’m going Lakers in 6 against the Magic in the finals. Kobe will end up guarding Jameer Nelson frequently to slow his butt down. Also, it’s the curse of Vinsanity choking at the most important games/series. It’s in the blood just like Tracy Mcgrady his cousin.
Yes, you heard me. The Lakers are repeating.

Of course but I can’t go against the Suns. Really in order to win that series they have to just plain out old school outscore run and gun. Lopez hurt may be a blessing in disguise. But LA’s bigs are really worrisome, STAT isn’t a great defender. That said LA doesn’t really have players that can keep up with Phoenix running. Nash should have his way in this series too.
So I’m curious drewh based on ur response. If u had to bet $1,000 bucks of ur own money on the Suns/Lakers series would ur prediction change; and if so, how so? Winner in how many games? Try to imagine really forking over $1,000 dollars when answering this. You won’t lose the money if ur off on the number of games but u would if u pick the wrong winner.
