2010 NBA Dunk Contest the Worst Ever

wtf was this shit. Shannon Brown, the mtherfcker who had a 45 inch vertical does a series of the most boring dunks ever in a dunk contest followed by Gerald Wallace who is known for his high flying doesnt even do anything. Both of them didnt even want to be there. Why the fuck did they signup and waste everyones time.

This dunk contest was hyped, and rightfully so with all the potential every fan though that would be shown. But alas not so. Demar and Nate both had one good dunk the whole competition of which made up the only time anyone in the stands stood up. You could feel the lack of energy in the arena.

Just basically the worst dunk contest in the history of the NBA All star weekend. This is about the only time ive ever felt sorry for celebrities of who flew to Dallas to watch a boring, stupid and cheap event. Same goes for the fans.

The NBA needs to fix this. One idea thats been thrown out there for a WHILE is to bring pro dunkers like Team Flightbrothers, the Globetrotters or even D-League dunkers.

A rant maybe a little too long but heartfelt. As an NBA fan this was pathetic…

I agree totally. This was the worst dunk contest of all time. Shannon Brown and Wallace did dunks that would be normal dunks in a game. Demar did one good dunk but the rest of his dunks were garbage. Nate is the most overrated dunker of all time. It is amazing that he has such crazy hops but his dunks are all the same. Watching Nate is so boring

Yep, this was some sad sad shit.

Well If Lebron hadn’t backed out, and if Iguodala hadn’t been robbed against Robinson and afterward deciding he would never compete again, we would have a good contest. Apart from Brown no one in the contest is even in the top 20 best dunkers in the league. Lebron, Jamario Moon, Iguodala, Josh Smith, Dwight Howard, Gerald Green, Pick any 4 of those and you have a real contest.

Lol Shannon even had a site dedicated to getting him into the contest and then he does the lamest dunks ever.
I hate watching Nate Robinson win(again) just because he’s a little guy. I don’t think height should matter as much.
Bringing in outside guys like TFB isn’t the right choice though. Its a dunk contest for NBA players, hence the name NBA Dunk Contest.
It was boring last year too…

who watches basketball anymore? I stopped after Jordan retired.

I agree with all the above.

Lebron is such a cunt. I think he “officially” entered and backed out multiple times.

Shannon Brown was a huge disappointment. After seeing him get up there during reg. games, I expected something spectacular. He’s athletic no doubt, but lacked creativity.

WEAK

Nate misses all of his first attempts it’s fucking annoying and when he makes it they’re lame ass dunks. If you want to see a good contest watch the NBDL dunk contest which has been better than the NBA’s for the past couple. The only reason I watch the dunk contest is to hear Charles and co. say funny shit.

This dunk contest was garbage, it looks like no one put any thought into it and just went there and improvised. Goddamit Gerald Wallace and Shannon Brown I’ve seen better dunks of you in game:

You know whats really frustrating?
This idea that Nate Robinson is such a great dunker.
He’s not.
He just does average dunks that most guys in the NBA can do in their sleep.
THESE are good dunks by a little guy.

Very disappointing contest. I get the feeling that a couple of things happened that contributed to teh suck.

  1. I think that both Gerald Wallace and Shannon Brown had much better dunks in mind for their finals but they falsely assumed that mediocre/average dunks would get them through. It looked like both Gerald and Shannon were holding back, which, is just kind of dumb.

  2. I suspect that Shannon wasn’t fully clear on the rules about multiple attempts. Both of his attempts he failed the first go and defaulted to a weaker dunk immediately. I think he was probably nervous that if he couldn’t make it the first time he had to do something different.

I don’t like the time limit setup. Nobody wants to see someone take 20+ attempts to make a dunk. The only person that the time limit benefits is someone like Nate Robinson who ‘can’ dunk but not reliably enough to guarantee it goes down.

Shannon Brown is an absolutely incredible jumper. Some of his in game dunks seem to defy logic and physics. It’s really surprising to me that he couldn’t have come up with something more interesting than what he did.

I think the NBA needs to reformat the dunk contest a bit. Not sure how exactly, but that was a mess, something’s gotta be done.

I agree completely, although jumping over Dwight Howard last year was pretty cool. It’s so bizarre that Gerald and Shannon came out with such weak material. Either one of them could have easily done everything that Nate did. Oh well.

i agree with all the above. I planned my whole day just for this crap. I have truly lost faith in the slam dunk contest.

Glad I didn’t watch…

It was so weak.

I think the format could use some re-working, but the main thing is getting people who are sick dunkers who want to be there. Someone who wants to actually win and impress people.

Hate him or love him, but Vince Carter was just vicious at his dunk contest. Not everyone can do what he does, but everyone can at least go after it that hard.

Guys, I’ll tell you what I think. I think these guys are now overpaid and there is no economic incentive for them to compete at this. And somewhat, they are disrespecting the game.

Remember when the likes of Erving, Wilkins, et als would go at it in a dunk contest for bragging rights? Those guys wanted to win, show their stuff, get their name out there. These guys? Guys on the bench are making more than what Erving and those guys made. They have no incentive. The Kobes, Lebrons - all of them should be WANTING to compete and win. The contest no longer has any prestige, because these guys don’t compete…and its been this way for a while. At this point, it would be a better contest with hungry d-leaguers that want to make a name for themselves.

I totally agree with you there.

Normally i wouldn’t want to see players out of the NBA but after this year, why not.

Still, I expect the 4 guys that are picked and choose to be there to actually try to do some impressive dunks.
Gerald Wallace looked like he just woke up from a nap.

Two years ago when Dwight Howard brought some prestige to the contest, other superstars should have joined in the next year, but instead, we got what we got this year…Nate Robinson.

Yes. This is it.

The contest used o mean something. The fucking dunk champion. Now you see guys coming down from their werak as dunk with sleepy eyes, no effort put forth.

It’s supposed to mean something, and its annoying how its being ruined by the players

I miss the days when the dunk contest actually involved NBA superstars.
