2010 College Football

What I meant by prestige is incoming recruits and excellent coaching. Both of those= solid team every year.

I also never said we won’t miss a beat. I humbly predicted 1 loss in a schedule which doesn’t face more than 2 or 3 threatening teams this year. Having said that, there will not be a meltdown…

Fair enough. Put simply though, Landry Jones isn’t Garrett Gilbert. The guy had virtually no preparation and showed his ability against Alabama. Yeah, he made some mistakes. The guy was NINETEEN. I woulda shat myself if I was put in such a situation. Not to mention, his receivers (save Shipley in the second half) actually hurt him. Dropped balls everywhere, a la Malcolm Williams in the endzone.

The kid is special. Watched him in high school-- has a bigger gun than some NFL quarterbacks. I acknowledge the O Line deficiency, as I noted. If they hold the pocket, he will pick secondarys apart.

And yeah, he isn’t Colt McCoy, but the dude is more mobile than some other traditional quarterbacks (Bradford). If he continues to grow into his frame, Big 12 defenses are in trouble.
Yeah, when you mention a 19 year old QB with virtually no preparation, lots of dropped passes, and still showing his ability, are you talking about Jones all during last year, or Gilbert in that one game?

Yes, correct, Landry Jones isn’t Gilbert. See, Jones has proved himself in the college game, Gilbert hasn’t.

Alabama was very conservative on both sides of the ball in the third quarter where Texas made the comeback. Gilbert took advantage of broken coverage on several occasions, including the long touchdown pass. You Texas fans are ready to anoint him the next Peyton Manning. Let’s see him do it on the field first.

I do agree that he handled the pressure about as well as could be asked of him.

That’s high school. Big deal. I can think of several big time recruits that went to OU who were “special” in high school and never saw the damn field in 4 years.

Gilbert does seems to have a good arm, I agree with that.

When has Gilbert proved he is more mobile than traditional QBs, like the Heisman Trophy winner you mentioned? High school?

And Bradford had excellent foot work in the pocket and rarely got sacked. I watched him on more than one occasion run away from linebackers who chased him out of the pocket.

Look, I think Gilbert has all the physical tools to be a good player, but let him prove it first.

Are you serious? First of all, ask any notable analyst who is the more promising quarterback. Secondly, I watched every OU game. Jones got WORSE in the season. His first game or two in he did great (broke Sam’s single game TD record). He collapsed thereafter once he faced the meat of the schedule. There is a SIGNIFICANT difference between having months to improve versus getting thrown into the national championship.

Landry Jones honest to god didn’t look any better against Standford than he did UT. This is a problem.

I didn’t intend to start an OU vs UT thread. Let’s move on.

Please please please let this hold true.

Ohio state is always ranked high preseason. Same as USC, but not quite as high as usual.

They have to give the fans hope. They need that revenue.

In reality, there is only 1 conference in college football worth a damn.

SEC.

Whatever helps you sleep at night “i work out.”

Take off your burnt orange sunglasses.

Okay?

There are notable analysts who have Jones on their Heisman watch list. He’s predicted to have a big season. He is receiving some pre-season Big 12 honors.

Are you serious?

No, he didn’t. He had two notable bad game against Texas (after coming off the bench) and Nebraska (on the road). Despite the bad game against Nebraska (5 INT’s) OU’s offense doubled up Nebraska in total yards and had something like 25 first downs to their 7.

Please stop. You aren’t helping your credibility with this statement. This was his best game of the year against a quality opponent on a neutral field. And he did it against a Stanford team that was supposedly one of the more physical Pac-10 teams (who crushed USC, btw).

Try to be a bit more objective and there won’t be a need to point out your inaccuracies.

You aren’t enjoying it?

This has been pretty tame. You should go visit some of the message boards the week before OU and Texas play. Shameful, yet entertaining.

Do you have any historical knowledge/context of college football?

No? Okay, that’s what I figured.

HAHA my credibility is at stake? Don’t boast a huge win against a Standford team who played without Andrew Luck. And, to your previous question regarding his mobility…when you are slaughtering opponents at home by 20 + points, your gonna see the back up.

Sorry for the hijack. I’m done. Let it be settled on the field as it always is. I just want to hear the crickets come October if the result is the same (will it be 5 out of the last 6 boys :))???

Yes, your credibility. You have none because you made claims about an athlete who has yet to play a full game. You then try to compare him to a player (Jones) who has proven his ability.

See what I’m talking about?

Despite double digit numbers of injuries to starters, OU beat a ranked team with a QB who up until that game had not faired so well away from home. This QB played his best game (given the opponent) of the year.

Plenty of reason to be proud.

If you are referring to Bradford’s mobility, no, it was not displayed against backups.

Regardless of outcome, I’ll be posting in this thread, just like I did last season.

I need all the help I can get. Z12 doesn’t even put me down.

In all cereals… SEC will win the BCS championship…again.

I’m 20 years old and watch football!
USC!

Go Trojans!

Fight On!!!

Sanctions or no sanctions (kinda bullshit sanctions because they never ACTUALLY PROVED anything but its the NCAA and they dont have to) but they’ll be back. Still win 10 games this year and hopefully the NCAA approves the appeal so that its only a 1 year bowl ban. We’ll see
