2010-2011 NBA Season 3.0

Yet for some reason several people not only agree with me, but feel the need to point this out as well, here and elsewhere. Ever think that maybe you don’t know what you’re talking about on this?

Only caught from about midway through the 3rd and on, but Jesus the Lakers didn’t look good. Bryant was the only one who didn’t have “PANIC” written all over his face, Phil Jackson included. And honestly, it wasn’t that the Mavs were outplaying them [aside from Barreas’s ability to exploit the pick-n-roll]. The Lakers were just flat missing easy shots. I’ve said since about halfway through the season that I wasn’t sold on the Lakers ability to get back to the Finals, and right now it looks like they’re dead in the water. I will say that they do typically play better with their backs against the wall, but this might be too deep a hole. I’m really interested to see how they respond in Dallas. Oh, and to the poster who asked why Bryant isn’t shredding Dallas’ D. he had 36 in game 1, and that’s with moving the ball [despite his 0 assist stat line]. If they’re gonna have a shot he needs to be really aggressive from the jump.

Careful there greg, that’s how bandwagon fans tend to sound

So Ron is suspended for 1 game.

What a dummy[/quote]

As Kenny mentioned immediately post-game, this isn’t a bad thing for LAL. It just translates into more minutes for Odom and Blake and maybe also Barnes

When did the hit occur? As mentioned I only caught most of the 2nd half, but I completely missed that flying clothesline.

Also, I’ve NEVER liked Artest. Yeah, he’s come up big in certain spots over the years but he’s usually the reason his team is in those spots to begin with. The guy has absolutely no idea how to play winning basketball and may in fact be mildly retarded. He is way more trouble than he’s worth, both on and off the floor [recent philanthropic work included].

As a Mavs fan, Odom’s extra presence would haunt me more than Artest.

And nice job on the early prediction. If the Mavs get past the Lakers I think they could get past the Thunder/Grizzlies. Those two teams aren’t as good as LA. And the Mavs were looking like serious contenders before Butler was out for the year and Dirk had that mid season injury. I haven’t seen a lot of games, so they might be playing close to as well as then. [/quote]

From what I recall, the defense has ramped up. Offense seems to be a little more tempo to it, but they give cheap turnovers. More so than at the beginning of the reg season from what I can remember.

Chandler and Barea have really stepped it up since mid-season though. This is probably the best basketball Dallas have played all season.

I’m a little weary on calling it early. Last time Lakers slumped they went on to a 15-1 run or something like that. Looked like definite champions.

WhiteFlash,

What were your predictions for the playoffs?

OK I did not stay up to watch the Lakers game in full, but will someone who did watch it tell me why Kobe isn’t shredding the Mavs? They have no one who should be able to remotely slow him down besides Marion (which would require you to put Kidd/Terry on Artest/Odom) and Brewer (which would require you to play Corey Brewr). I thought Kobe would avg 35-40 this series.

Did they zone up or do something I haven’t thought of? From the recaps I read, it sounds like he had a hard time scoring on Jason Bleeping Kidd, but recaps can be wrong.[/quote]

c’mon don’t fall like that. You’ve been getting unnecessary flack for relying on stats too much and supposedly not watching enough basketball games. That’s bull and you know it so just comment like you always do brah. Always like your input.

Interesting choice of words – haunt? If I was a Laker fan, which I’m not, Dirk would be haunting me. Like really scaring the shit out of me…

Dude, it’s changed several times throughout the year, but the one constant was the Lakers, until the last couple of weeks of the season. We’ve all seen 'em go through the motions for pretty large chunks of their title runs, but this has been different. Gasol has looked content [for lack of a better word] with winning the 2 rings and basically disinterested or scared of the work required to get another, and it hasn’t been just him.

The only guy who seems like he really cares on the floor is Bryant, and he’s looked more frustrated with his team than I’ve seen in a long time. I’m not entirely ready to through in the towel on them, but they need to make a statement tomorrow night to prove they’renot dead in the water.

Also, before the playoffs started I had questions about the Bulls experience [or lack thereof], but their inexperience has nothing to do with what’s going on right now. They’re being way too reliant on Rose and just flat out not playing that well for pretty large stretches of games.

I could give my take on every team left, but nobody wants to read that shit so I’ll finish with “At this point I wouldn’t be surprised to see a completely unexpected Finals”.

yeah, gotta love the NBA promoting their biggest markets and stars. Memphis beating SAS, ATL beating ORL, each of MEM/ATL winning the first game in the second round… DAL being up 2-0 on LA… All those huge rating teams doing well!

All I’m saying is, the OKC-DEN series for example, of the games I watched I noticed 3 things:

  1. DEN getting KILLED on the glass
  2. DEN missing a fuckton of Free Throws
  3. Bad refs

In THAT order.

Wow last night was boring with no bball. I have a friend in town this weekend who doesn’t like bball either… maybe I’ll make a drinking game out of it and make him watch.

I literally can not believe I bet on Mavs in 6 and am legitimately wondering if the Lakers will even make it that far. Unreal.

Man, I’ve said several times that Denver shot themselves in the foot in that series, but the refs straight up stole several oppertunities from them. I agree with your list, but I’d put bad refs as 2b with free throws being 2a. And, no matter what anyone says, if the refs are constantly shitting on you you get demoralized and stop believing in yourself.

Barkley called Mavs in 6, and this might be the rare time he’s right. Obviously going out on a huge limb here, but if the Lakers lose tonight they’re dunzo. I expect [read:hope] that they come out and make a statement tonight, and the series is back in full swing.

^Barkley also called Memphis over San Antonio as well as Hawks over Magic

This playoffs he’s looking like a genius.

Did Barkley make a prediction on the Heat-Celts series?

He only called the Hawks after they were up, and said they’d get swept by Chicago. Even a broken clock’s right at least two times a day.

good stuff. Yeah I feel you on writing off the Lakers. Guess tonight we’ll really find out if they have a chance.
