Here’s the deal with the Ravens and Matt Ryan; if he slips to #8 they’re going to take him without hesitation. The Ravens are very strict in taking whoever they feel is the best available player, and that is the case with Ryan in their opinion.
Of course, pressure from fans could be playing a role in that decision. In the 10+ years the team has been here, our best QBs were Vinny Testaverde and Trent Dilfer. Yikes!
If Ryan’s gone, and I think he will be, it looks like they’re interested in Chad Henne late in the 1st round, and I have no clue what they’ll do at #8.

You’re QBs haven’t been the greatest, and the fact that you’ve been a very good team for most of that time is even more impressive because of it. I think Ray Lewis has been the best damn leader of men in the NFL since he came in the league, so that probably has had a lot to do with it. I like him so much that I can’t even hate the Ravens, even though I definitely want to.
I LOVE Ray Lewis. He’s an amazing player, no doubt. But still, you’d be stupid to take Ryan. Trade down and pick up a WR or something.
And about Hartwig: I hear he’s good. He’s one of the better centers in the league. You should be fine with him on the line, no worries. He doesn’t give up a lot of sacks, so that’s obviously a plus.

Other than drafting QBs and Travis Taylor (catch a fucking ball much?!?), Ozzie Newsome is very good at taking the best available player. If he and his personel really think Ryan is the best player, I can’t argue with it. In fact, I trust his choices more now since the meddling offensive genius Brian Billick got fired.
In any case, I think Matt Ryan is going to Atlanta or someone else is going to trade up to get him in front of Baltimore, so the point is moot IMO. I started researching a bit and right now the Ravens claim to want either Ryan Clady or Gholston.
Personally I agree with trading down, although I’d rather see them get a CB. Sam Jackson Jr. (aka Chris McCalister) keeps getting banged up and Samari Rolle can’t cover anything anymore.
The thing is, the Ravens are a quick rebuild away. Two Drafts and a few free agents could solve your problems real quick, unless something disastrous happens.
My one fear is that my Giants won’t be going to the Super Bowl again this year, let alone be good enough for the playoffs.
Who knew this place was full of Vikes fans? Good stuff.
I’m happy with the trade. Getting pressure from the front four will make our secondary much, MUCH better, and we won’t have to gamble by sending our 'backers as often. I think this move is a big gamble, but I’m happy to see that somebody in this state finally has the cajones to try to get better through free agency and trades. I’m sick of seeing our superstar leaving town for big money while we are stuck with a bunch of “value” guys. This year we filled major needs at DE, WR, and Safety. I’m happy.
As far as what’s left of our draft day, I’m hoping we spend our second round pick (#47) on:

Dustin Keller out of Purdue may be the first taken. There’s a couple kids from Notre Dame, USC, and Tennessee. After that I don’t know. If anybody has ESPN Insider they could do a little research for us.

I’m on the Matt Ryan is not-that-great bandwagon. Not a great draft year for QBs.
Last year was pretty horrible too, unless you’re one of those people who think Brady Quinn is the second coming of Joe Namath. Russell could end up okay, but I never had any idea how he could be a 1.
the second coming of a guy who threw more INTs than TDs wouldnt be that good anyway
When he gets to the next level tebow wont be able to continue doing what he’s doing right now. His running game opens up a lot for him, and that wont be there for him in the nfl
I’m feeling pretty good about my Chiefs so far. We didn’t get C. Long, but it’s hard to be upset getting Dorsey at 5.
Jumping up to get Branden Albert at 15 was a great move. We just picked up two new starters.
If we can add a DE or CB in the 2nd, our defense will be looking pretty good. Phillip Merling (DE) is still available as I write this, as is Brandon Flowers (CB). I still think Brohm could be a good pick here, too.
If we can add a couple guards and a center, and hopefully pick up Jordy Nelson in the third, this could be a great deraft for us.
One thing I hadn’t considered until now is possibly Limas Sweed in the second. I didn’t think we would want a WR in the 2nd, but if Sweed falls that far he would be hard to pass up.
Giants got Kenny Phillips, S, UM. Good pick there, without a doubt.
Bucs blew another pick with Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas. What a complete joke. He’s good, but not THAT good.
Chiefs are having the best draft right now, by far. Best DT, 2nd best DE. Good stuff, looking bright.
Titans are the assclowns of the Draft (Jets come in second [edited]), picking Chris Johnson, RB, East Carolina. In case they didn’t know, Johnson wasn’t even the best RB on the board (and a 3rd rounder at best), nor was he the best RB in his conference (Kevin Smith was). They skipped on Ray Rice, Kevin Smith, etc. Total fools.
Chiefs just picked up Flowers, I’m getting really excited. He didn’t have the best combine numbers, but if you just look at on field performance I think he may be the best CB in the draft.
What’s going on with WR’s in this draft? Sweed is still on the board. Avery was the first to go, and now Jordy Nelson went to GB in the beginning of the 2nd.

I think this was a classic case of a team putting WAY too much emphasis on a guys 40 time.
The WR class this year is quite awful. I’ve seen Limas Sweed play (against a pretty good secondary here at UCF) and he’s the real deal. He balls it up on a weekly basis and knows how to make quarterbacks look good (just ask Colt McCoy).

Agreed. I still think Kevin Smith is the best overall RB in the Draft, but Rashard Mendenhall is a BEAST. Mendenhall was a great pick for the Steelers. And it looks like Smith will end up going in the Second Round.
I just knew Matt Ryan would be gone before #8. Fine by me since I wasn’t too thrilled with him anyway. I’m nervous about Flacco only because the name reminds me too much of Keanu Reeve’s character Shane Falco from “The Replacements”.

Bears are fucking idiots, drafting Matt Forte, RB, Tulane.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO KEVIN SMITH IS?!
Ray Rice is still available, too.
What about Sweed? Can’t believe he’s still there. And now Jerome Simpson from COASTAL CAROLINA goes before him? I’ve never even heard of the school, let alone the player.
