2008 NFL Draft

Yeah, this Draft is crazier than most. A lot of smaller school players going ahead of bigger school players. The downside of that is a lot of the bigger school players are, et this, BETTER! Simpson isn’t a Sweed, that’s for sure.

Flacco isn’t going to do much. The more I see of Ryan, the more I like him (I still doubt he’ll be as good a player as projected). Henne and Brohm are the best in the Draft. One of them will go to Tampa, just watch. Or John David Booty. But who really knows? Only Gruden and Bruce Allen do.

It gets awfully to keep rooting for the 49ers when they win about 4.5 games AND keep making idiotic first round draft picks.

Kentwan Balmer? Who?

Here’s a hint: If he plays for a BCS conference team and nobody’s ever heard of the guy until Draft Day, he probably didn’t do shit in college and probably won’t do shit in the NFL.

Way to blow your first rounder, Niners.

The Chiefs are drafting really well this year. I like both of the Steelers’ picks too.

Vikes drafted Darren Sharper’s replacement, but I’d rather have seen them take Fred Davis.

Balmer was the 3rd ranked DT behind Dorsey and Ellis. That’s a good pick by them, considering that they’re revamping their entire defense this offseason.

And this just in: Ray Rice was now selected. The next RB taken HAS to be 24K (Kevin Smith). If not, I quit.

HOLY SHIT. Green Bay just picked Brian Brohm. Bad move, horrible move. Oh man, I can’t believe this just happened.

I’ve never been sold on Rodgers, but when you spend a first round pick on a qb you expect him to eventually start. It really makes you question what GB thinks about Rodgers. I think Brohm was a good value here, but GB taking him is a head scratcher.

Giants got Kenny Phillips, S, UM. Good pick there, without a doubt.

Bucs blew another pick with Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas. What a complete joke. He’s good, but not THAT good.

Chiefs are having the best draft right now, by far. Best DT, 2nd best DE. Good stuff, looking bright.

Titans are the assclowns of the Draft (Jets come in second [edited]), picking Chris Johnson, RB, East Carolina. In case they didn’t know, Johnson wasn’t even the best RB on the board (and a 3rd rounder at best), nor was he the best RB in his conference (Kevin Smith was). They skipped on Ray Rice, Kevin Smith, etc. Total fools.

Here’s to a good Round 2!
Chris Johnson is going to be a good pro. Though I am surprised to see Kevin Smith still sitting around.

Big vote of confidence for Aaron Rodgers, huh?

Yeah, I’m not unhappy with the Vikes’ pick, but…

Chiefs are definitely having a nice draft. Steelers, too. Mendenhall is solid and Sweed is a friggin’ steal at that spot!!

I am content with Tomlin/Colbert’s first-day picks. Mendenhall was a steal at 23 and Sweed is the answer to Big Ben’s prayers. The offensive skill positions just got a lot better. It’s improving on a strength, but at least it’s improvement.

Now they need a few linemen to improve depth along the O-line on day 2 and everything will be solid. I’m hoping for Toledo’s John Greco. He may be able to step in right away at LG or RT, depending on what they want to do with Willie Colon.

I LOVE Rogers. The way he played against Dallas this past year (week 7) was fantastic. He is the heir apparent to Favre.

And anyway, I’ve figured out the whole scenario with Jacksonville, the Bucs, Packers, and Miami:

Bucs wanted a QB, so they swapped picks with Jacksonville to get another pick (more value). They figure Tennessee and Green Bay won’t be taking QBs, so they went through with the trade. Green Bay comes up and they select Brohm, which gave me a heart attack. Miami picked Henne, which means Tampa Bay was essentially fucked. That’s why TB took the full 7 minutes to pick (they picked with ~3 seconds left on the clock).

And, sure as hell, they picked some unknown WR from Appalachian State. Another blown draft.

The Steelers had a great first day. They’re going to have a power back in Mendenhall and they have a big receiver in Sweed. This Draft is very deep in OL and DL, so don’t worry that your Steelers didn’t take any. Remember, there are four rounds tomorrow, plus compensatory picks. Still a lot of ball players left.

Huge vote of confidence. Plus, they took the guy the Bucs wanted.

my steelers absolutely dominated this draft. parker and mendenhall in the shotgun 2RB set? ward, holmes and sweed out wide?

steel nation, put an iron city down tonight to celebrate day one, that was awesome. go stillers.

i was shocked to see the packers pick brohm. he’s good, sure, but way to get behind your first-round qb who’s been waiting his turn for three years now. awesome stuff, packers.

for sure. i couldn’t understand what the bucs were doing. jackson is pretty good, but honestly…WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO PICK ANOTHER QB? they have like six, plus plummer’s rights still! but since they’re looking QB anyways, they should have realized that the packers were not only looking at brohm at 56, they were looking at him at 30. jesus.

agreed.

I’m feeling pretty good about my Chiefs so far. We didn’t get C. Long, but it’s hard to be upset getting Dorsey at 5.

Jumping up to get Branden Albert at 15 was a great move. We just picked up two new starters.

If we can add a DE or CB in the 2nd, our defense will be looking pretty good. Phillip Merling (DE) is still available as I write this, as is Brandon Flowers (CB). I still think Brohm could be a good pick here, too.

If we can add a couple guards and a center, and hopefully pick up Jordy Nelson in the third, this could be a great deraft for us.

One thing I hadn’t considered until now is possibly Limas Sweed in the second. I didn’t think we would want a WR in the 2nd, but if Sweed falls that far he would be hard to pass up.
tedro, my best friend is a chiefs fan, we both agreed your draft’s been awesome. living in the bay area, it’s gonna be fun watching dorsey stomp out jamarcus and the ten running backs they have without picking a DT that they sorely needed

a) talib is better than you think.

b) smith is not the best RB in the draft, not even close. he’s not bad, but i can’t really complain with all the guys ahead of him. chris johnson was a reach but i think he’s a better back than smith…based on the two games i saw him play. so hey, you probably have a better read on smith.

c) i like matt forte a lot…i think the bears did a decent job there.

d) stillers did work
