2006-2007 Fantasy Football Thread

Alright, following some of AA and other’s advice here is my draft plan through RD7.

Round 1 - pick 8 - RB1
Round 2 - pick 13 - WR1
Round 3 - pick 28 - RB2
Round 4 - pick 33 - WR2
Round 5 - pick 48 - TE1 or WR3
Round 6 - pick 53 - QB1 or QB2
Round 7 - pick 68 - RB3 or RB4

That’s all i’ve got so far. Do you guys who have done live drafts plan out every round for picks? Or do you only plan out the first 7 or 8 and then just go with what’s left after that?

Here’s what I got:

  1. LT
  2. Eli Manning
  3. Steve Smith
  4. Darrell Jackson
  5. Clinton Portis
  6. Chris Cooley
  7. Shawn Merriman
  8. Terence Newman (DB - Baltimore)
  9. Charles Grant - DL, NO
  10. Will Witherspoon (LB, STL)

We only did 10 rounds, and now we have to fill out our rosters on waivers – so now I have to try to figure how to prioritize my waiver rankings… I’m thinking back-up QB and kicker as my top two priorties. Also, I think I should pick up LT’s back-up in SD as insurance. Then a 3rd WR, and then the Defensive guys. Thoughts?

Michael Turner would be a great pick, I considered drafting him this year as he’s shown great ability when given the chance- he might be the best back up RB in the NFL.

Was Dunta Robinson (DB, Texans) taken? He was a sleeper for me this year as he gets a lot of tackles for a corner and I think his interception total will bounce back to his rookie levels (6). Also I like Napolean Harris- starting MLB for an Oakland defense that will be on the field a lot this year.

Yeah thats what I do.

I actually color code my picks in a spread sheet. Blue for RB’s, Green for WR’s etc. Then you list your players by position in order you like and cut and paste them into the rounds. Its an easy way of seeing what is available at what position. Also, I bold my sleepers for the later rounds. Another advantage of doing it this way, it will identify quickly what other teams are likely to pick position wise etc.

Not too shabby bro. You need depth at RB and WR because both Darrell and Port are question marks at this point. I would not worry about a back up QB till later. You are going to start ELi every week over your QB2 so I would pick up a decent QB who is playing a favorable opponent during the Giant’s bye week.

Turner and Duckett should be there. He could start till Port comes back, I would also target Marion Barber and Greg Jones, guys that are likely to start later on in the season.

I have a spreadsheet created with all my picks so far. Up through Round 7 and I have my favorites listed under each round. I like the idea of bolding sleeper picks and will do that. Thanks for the advice and i’ll let ya know on Monday how the draft went.

Alright, had the draft yesterday and I think I did alright. I am second guessing some of my picks but what can ya do. I don’t think i’ll be spectacular this year but I should be alright.

QBs - McNabb, Simms, Brad Johnson (I hate having to have 3 QBs)
RBs - R. Brown, Chestor Taylor, DeAngelo Williams, Gregg Jones
WRs - Steve Smith, Santana Moss, Todd Heap, Michael Clayton, Nate Burlesson, Corey Bradford
K - SD, Jax
DEF - Pitt, Cincy

Overall, I think i’ll have an average team. I am second guessing some of my picks though. Mainly these two.

With my 3rd round pick I went with Santana Moss while Ward and Burress were still available. Not to sure about that one.

And with my third pick at RB I took DeAngelo Williams while Droughns was still there. OH well. What can ya do.

So, what do ya’ll think?

I just dropped Kevin Barlow & added Stephan Davis … Rams are supposed to sign him, today, possible, and he’s going to be there “Bettis” back … Barlow was my 4th back, so not too worried if it doesn’t pan out as anticipated.

Gregg Jones out for the season with a torn ACL, dahum. I was looking for him to start later on in the season

Ah, what? Out for the season? Where did you read that? I just read this morning that Del Rio said it was a sprain and he should be ready to go for Week 1.

MOTHERTRUCKER, BLEEPTIY, BLEEPITY, BLEEP, BLEEP… SON OF A…

Yeah dude, just broke. Rotoworld had it first I think. Its on Jaguars.com.
I guess Toefield is now the primary back up, he looked good in that game. The rookie Drew also could see more action. I had Jones in two leagues.

Burres maybe, not Ward this year. The fact he has missed all pre-season worries me. I stayed away from him. As a Skins fan I am concerned about Moss but I still like the pick.

I would have gone Droughns, I think Williams would have been there later.

Not bad though.

Yup, oh well, that’s the way it goes.

So, I just dropped him and picked up Deuce McAllister. I couldn’t believe that he never got drafted. I completely lost track of him. So, all in all, not bad I guess. He’s looked pretty good this pre-season.

Had my final draft last night, on-line one. Did ok but AZ better do something this year fantasy wise b/c I have a lot of AZ players. Not so happy about the spread but I was in a bad position. I inherited a team last year which was for shit. I got pick of the litter for my keeper this year since no one on my team was good enough to keep. So I took Edge and I did horrible in the draft order, plus penalty = 11th.

So basically, by the time I got a pick, it was pick 23. All the backs and top WR’s were gone so I went Fitz.

We start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/WR flex, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DST. Standard scoring format.

This league was like a 80 something so I am not too worried about it and therefore took more risks, here it is…

QB: Warner, Leinert (AZ again- fuck).
RB: Edge, Chester, Gore, Marion Barber, Gregg Jones (out, am picking up Lundy - hey its free)
WR: Fitz, Row Williams, Moulds, Deion Branch (sign mofo, you came cheap in round 10!!)
TE: Cooley, LJ Smith
K: Kaeding
DST: Ravens

Thats a steal dude, you did well with that. Deuce should be good for 80 and a tittie a week, thats 10-16 points in most formats, I would take that for a RB2/3.

This is an interesting thread re: fantasy drafts:

ADDENDUM: I should note it’s more interesting after the first 80 or so posts, unless you’re interested in their prediction tool.

I like your RBs. Your QB situation leaves something to be desired but what can you do? Receivers are middle of the pack. Good pick at Branch in the 10 round. He slipped pretty far in our draft too.

Good luck man!

Thanks man. I think Warner will sling it, as long as I can stay close to my opponents QB fantasy wise.

I think Fitz is top 3 WR right now. I rank them Chad, Steve Smith, Fitz.

All the hype about Williams got him as a top 10 WR. I dont see it that way but I could not leave him on the board.

After that ist poo poo. I am hoping Chester and Gore will have break out sesons, too much to ask for?

Warner will definitely air it out if he can stay healthy. Before he got injured last year he had a couple of good games for me.

I agree with you about Fitzy. Definitely top 3 receiver. I wish you would have had Steve Smith at No. 1 though instead of C. Johnson. I could have picked him but instead decided to go with Smith. I had Johnson last year and he had a good year. But he just doesn’t get into the endzone enough. And with Palmer being questionable I just couldn’t keep him at No. 1. Maybe it was a mistake and i’ll regret it later, but hopefully not.

I wanted to get Gore but the cards just didn’t fall right. I do think he’ll have a good year.

And i’m with ya on the Chestor Taylor bandwagon. Their offense has looked pathetic so far this preseason but it’s still early. The addition of Hutchinson on the line should help their running game. He should be able to find a lot of running room behind Hutch and McKinnie. Let’s hope he does.
