20 Reps Squat Challenge

by having the weight suspended under the bar, thus shifting the center of gravity, this is NOT a squat, but rather something else. this will be a very unpopular opinion i am sure. [/quote]

How is it not a squat?

x2

Because when you put the weight under the bar it actually lifts the ground up towards you, thus making it easier. Duh! Morans.

Physics…(jk)

Well, this is a thread about a 20-rep squat challenge.

Arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics, even if you win, you are retarded, so I won’t argue much with anyone of you, but I think I should add some comments.

Still, I am surprised about all the negativity on this forum. I set forth a challenge in an exercise I think is one of the most brutal exercises, the squat, and I challenge you all to do 20 reps of proper depth and without a belt.

I see no need to justify myself as I never lie about the weights I use, and I believe no serious lifter would lie about the weights that they use.

To further add to my integrity I can show you a couple of videos from the place where I trained before, without buckets!

230kg box squat:

10 sets of three reps at 160kg (94% of 1rm) in smolov base meso cycle last workout for front squats:

And finally my nationals debut video from 2007: - YouTube

The reason I now use buckets is that I only have 150kg of weight (bar + weight-plates). I am a broke student, and this is a creative way to increase the weight. If I had the money, I’d gladly buy more weight plates.

Yet I have not seen one single video from any of you, just a lot of bullshit talk. I am glad that some of you have accepted the 20-rep squat challenge. I guess it is true what Dave Tate wrote in his recent article, that 90% of all the people that you meet are negative pricks.

Motivated by this fact, and driven by my love for the iron game I set forth to create an entire strength community community on the internet called Kraftsport.no. I did all the coding (php/sql/javascript/html) and it is now live and thriving. My mission is to create a positive community where the haters and negative people has no place.

And this I have succeeded with. The site can be seen at http://www.kraftsport.no/, it is only in norwegian, so I hope it is okay to link to it here.

I have also created a youtube channel where I put up numerous videos, mostly of my own lifting, but also other videos that I compile for the benefit of the global strength community without asking for anything back.

Examples:

Martin Wildauer Interview:
Part 1: - YouTube
Part 2:
- YouTube

IPF World Champs 2007 125kg+ Squat compilation

So, if you want to be negative pricks, it does not effect me, and I won’t care about it. And if this post does not give you confidence that I am the real thing and have my heart in the sport, then nothing will convince you.

I am 30 years old, and studying to become a computer engineer, I am leaving the gym-industry and personal training business to enter an industry where wages and benefits are far better.

I do not know about you, but if you cannot and will not accept the 20-rep squat challenge I se no point in discussing stupid details about my lifting or the way I do things. If you are jealous, admit it to yourself, and go to the gym and bust your ass. If you feel better being negative about this whole challenge or my accomplishments, so please go forward and put forth all you energy into continuing to be like that.

I know something, and that is - those who are strong are to busy getting stronger, than talking shit on the forums.

I have trained for eight years, and I do not consider myself very strong. I placed 11th and last in the nationals in 2007, but I attended, and I got some new personal records. That was good enough for me.

After that I planned to compete in a strongman competition and I was doing a brutal smolov program, but at the end of that program I injuried myself while doing some medium weight squats, It was probably because I was overtrained and the weakest chain broke. I was out for 3 months with no heavy training.

I started again with front squats after that, and it is just now, more than a year later that I can to proper back squats again. I do not want to see anyone, not even outright jerks who deserves it, out with a lower back injury like that.

I have suffered many setbacks, of which this was the biggest one. I also have close contact with many lifters on the Norwegian Powerlifting Team who compete in IPF internationally.

In this video, Jørgen Hansen, my friend on the Norgwegian Powerlifting Team does an easy 200kg / 440lbs front squat. He has done 335kg in IPF-cometition in 110kg class.

So, If you still need to talk shit in this thread, be my guest.

But for now, it is time to get real and do some proper squatting.

I am still waiting for the first videos to show up. I haven’t seen anything yet!

I have absolutely NO respect for people that talk shit and have NOTHING to show.

Well, now I am a retard for having argued on the internet. I am absolutely relaxed, and hope that you will be civilized from now on. I guess there is always something that can be critized, and that some of you will grab that opportunity. But being negative for just the sake of being negative is very dumb.

I belive the older lifters have more respect and that they know what kind of determination and sacrifice is needed to get strong. Those that show no respect I do not consider proper lifters, they must be really young or immature, or both.

I am not at all surprised about the negativity or the attempt to put down what I have done, but I know with myself what I have accomplished, and I am proud of it, no matter what some pencil neck keyboard warriors from the united states of america says on the internet.

Here is a video for you all to watch at the end… It is a brutal front squat session with no belt.

While you naysayers sit behind your computers and write negative comments, I everyday go down in my basement, and my goal is all the time to get stronger and stronger.

So show me what you have got! Talk is cheap!

PS: I guess this thread will continue with a lot of shit talk, but now I have stated my opinion. Show some respect, and bust your ass in the gym and do 20 reps of the squat!!!

Im pretty sure he was joking, my video is done, i did it this morning i will link after i upload it.

Since I never try high reps, I gave 10 a go last night after heavy squatting and barely made it. I’m very tempted to try it again next week while still fresh.

Look at the barbell squat in a full decent with a perspective perpendicular to the joints plane. Draw a line of force through the resistance on its center of gravity, straight up and down, parallel to the force of gravity. Gravity acting on both the body mass and added mass (barbell) contribute to the resistance. On the barbell squat, the center of gravity is between the forefoot and heel.

However, If you look at the balance issue, it will be easier to maintain a balance with weights suspended under the bar, but the balance in a free weight squat is never an issue, so that only have academic interest.

As long as the barbell is on your back, you have to produce the same amount of force no matter how the weight is applied to the bar. Only if there was a third external force acting on the bar, the lift would be easier.

Gravity is at all times accelerating the weight towards earth at 9.81m/s^2. As long as the only contact with the ground is through your feet, there is no way for the center of gravity to change.

There are many variants of the squat, and perhaps I have invented a new one? The bucket squat!!!

Other variants are:

High Bar Back Squat or Olympic Squat, Low Bar Back Squat or Powerlifting Squat, Front Squat, Overhead Squat, Dumbbell Squat, Dumbbell Front Squat,Box Squat,Zercher Squat,Hack squat,Sissy Squat,Pistol Squat,Split Squat,Bulgarian Squat,Hindu Squat,Jump Squat,Air Squat etc. etc… They are all variants of the squat.

You can stand on a weight scale holding a dumbell or whatever, and then you can try to change the positions you hold the dumbell. The scale will read the exact same amount of weight all the time.

What your are talking about is the balance point, which is something completely different, and does not have any practical application in this case.

Center of gravity and point of balance is two completely different things.

I am just a retard for being sucked into even replying to this fruitless argument.

FUCK ME… my depth sucked the balls on some reps

In my defense you can see those were easy even though i did them at the end of my Sheiko routine. I only stopped 3 times because my back was hurting, the burn in the legs was only present on the last 2 reps really.

In 2 weeks when i am done with my current cycle ill give it another go with 275, and then 315lb.

not bad attempt it was very light compared to your max back squat, lowest should have been about 300lb attempt thats about 70% of your max 315 would be 75%-same as what stalion did- so that would be pretty good. Try 300lbs next time or somewhere around that. I have same problem on light squats I go to fast and my depth isn’t as great as I usually do.

Not to sound mean but I don’t think you hit the depth the OP mentioned on any of them except for maybe the last 3 reps.

Who else is starting with around 225lb’s? I am going to see how that goes first before any of you mofo’s get to see me staple myself to the garage floor.

You guys have fun w/ 20 rep squats. I’ll stick to triples :P.

I think the best “high rep” work I ever did was 320x10, no belt, nothing. Lets just say high volume squat workouts w/ decent weight does not make my poor back happy.

I won’t be doing that again for a LONG time.

Good luck guys, anything x20 is a PITA!

LOL. Well, I made my points and I look forward to watch your video!

matso1236: Well done! So far you are the only one who has actually posted a video of 20 reps in the squat! Well done! The squats were high, but I won’t flame you for that. I will just say that I appreciated your efforts and enjoyed the video. Excellent choice of music. With practice both depth and stamina will increase. Extra points for doing it after your ordinary squat workout.

Its the reason Shizen posted, the weight was too light, and i was going to fast. My last 3 reps were semi decent because it started feeling heavy on my back and therefore i dropped lower. I dont think depth will be a problem once i start working closer to 70%.

Do your heels continue to come up and knees shoot forward as you work up in weight?

What’s your best squat so far? 400ish?

My plan is to start with 80kg and work up… But that’ll be coming off the back of my comp on the 26th but I’ll need a bit of recovery time so I’ll be taking the first few weeks easy. Might go 80,100,120,130,140,take it from there and see whre I can go!!

I like to work toward hitting 180kg x10 too. This should feed in nicely to that.
