1911: What Brand of Boom-Boom?

This is just a feature of them in general.

Beautiful, but absolute trash in reliability.

Reminds me of some women I know.

I owned a Colt for almost 20 years. It was reliable, once I figured out which ammo it liked. But that was before I did a lot of shooting and I believe my round count on that pistol was around 3,000. Further, when you’ve lived through a few ammo panics you realize that being ammo-picky is not a good thing.

1911 guys remind me of some guys I used to work with. If you gave them a brand new vehicle they would either trash it or sell it in short order. I just want to get from point A to B in comfort, and maybe haul something, but some guys want a project, and if it isn’t a little fucked up it isn’t interesting to them.

I listen to podcasts where they interview gunsmiths who talk about ā€œtuning the extractorā€ on a 1911, and I’m like ā€œme pull trigger, gun go boom.ā€ I don’t mind taking shit apart myself, replacing a factory spring with an aftermarket spring to clean up the trigger pull, for example. But if I need help putting it back together it better be a really short youtube video.

Now, the 2011’s like the Staccato, Atlas, Taran, etc. are badass. I have a few Staccatos and I have been thinking of grabbing a Taran Pit Viper.

Wilson Combat or Colt.

Kimbers are good pistols, and reliable if treated properly. They’re all competition ready out of the box, which means built to very tight tolerances, and accuracy.

This often limits ammo types and even brands. Best practice is to follow manufacturer recommendations here.

They also require a bit of a break-in. You can speed this up by polishing the feed ramp. Or have a smith do it so you don’t go overboard and gouge.

Unlike the pistols themselves, the Kimber provided magazines are trash. Upgrade to Wilson or Chip McCormick magazines.

That is just sad. It is unfortunate you have had that sort of experience with the opposite sex.

Oh not ones I’ve been romantically involved with lol.

I don’t play those games.
