19 Years Old, 2 Years Training

To anyone who wants to scream about eating more calories, take a look at what’s posted on the front page today by Alwyn Cosgrove:
TMUSCLE: You’ve battled cancer. Twice. Not many people can say that. What lessons did that teach you? I don’t mean the “enjoy the little things/ work less, love more” kind of thing; I mean lessons that you learned about the body?

Alwyn Cosgrove: Okay. There are a few things. The caloric balance model of calories in, calories out? Bullshit.

I was in a negative caloric state (and vomiting) for months, lost muscle mass but gained weight (fat). I know the growth of the disease and the drugs involved in treating it change everything â?? but I had a malignant disease, wasn’t eating or training towards the end and probably gained 20lbs. Even after the treatment, without chemo, it took a long time to cut the weight â?? so it’s not just about calories.

Massive levels of cortisol have profound negative partitioning effects; calories go away from muscle and towards fat. I get that â?? but to create “mass” where there is no additional raw material â?? no fuel or building blocks present, violates the entire caloric balance model.

For the same reason that giving someone Testosterone will increase muscle mass and cause fat loss without training or changing diet, women in our gym will experience body comp changes when they’re going through menopause â?? even if training and caloric intake remains unchanged.

We see studies all the time about how adding a grapefruit to the diet increases fat loss despite being eucaloric. The low-carb studies have shown people losing fat when eating more calories as compared to high-carb diets. We’ve seen studies that show a loss in fat when you add in fish oil to the diet despite no change in calories. The caloric balance model just isn’t complete. This is what I’ve been saying for a long time. It’s not all about calories. Hormones matter. You can’t force your body to change simply by “throwing calories at the problem”.

As the OP grows older his hormonal profile will change, and that will finally allow him to maintain a heavier weight. He can speed this up by taking anabolic hormones now, but nothing short of hormonal manipulation will accomplish this process.

Don’t bother with conventional supps, btw. They don’t work for muscle. Health, maybe, if you take vitamins and minerals, but not muscle.

You may be right bob84… I calculated very rare my nutrients and kcal/day. When I’ve calculated it, it had resulted about 3000-3500kcal/day, but now I’m eating some more, so i guess is around 4000kcal/day, in my best days. Some days I cannot eat that much so I assume I go down to 3500 or even 3000kcal/day.

I eat 6-7 meals per day, not huge meals, but not even small. Some meals consists in sandwiches (bread, butter with chees or meat), other in chicken meat + fries or ries, other in many peanuts, other in protein shakes + dextrose (PW shake) etc.
I cannot measure right now exactly my kcals/day beacuse I don’t have an precision balance.
Ok, Not that im a expert but if i where you i would find out like say 3000kcal (that i think will be more then enough) and calculatote out from that. Like 40/20/40 % p-f-c gives you 300/66/300 g(and thats just a example, its articles about this on this site).

Then take exel a nutrition table and find out how much each meal should consist from and plan it like its something you really can do for a long time. If you find it difficult to calculate the food just pm and i can help you with that part.

I think that the weight can vary from people to people. Beyond muscle and fat it also depends much on how those are distribuied at the body and especially on bone structure. I have friends, that aren’t very very fat, and they weight around 200lbs at the same height, but are smaller then me at arms, shoulders, chest etc. The bone structure can be a very important point and also it depend much where you put that weight.
In time I maintained an heavier and heavier weight, from 125 lb to 135 lb, form 135lb to 145 lb, form 145 lb to 150 lb etc. I just hope that I can get bigger and bigger in time, even if slowly.

Thanks for the tips bob84.

OP i am your age and I went from 160 to 215 in a year without turning into a blob believe it or not. At 195 I was eating 5000kcals a day, and gasp I was able to get used to it like anyone else with a fast metabolism that got big. you don’t need added hormones to gain muscle when you’re 19, I mean if you wanted to gain while maintaining very low bodyfat you may need to but to be honest you will look better with a bit of bf to fill you out anyways, I mean if you get uncomfortably fat you can always diet down a bit, just don’t let NM’s bs turn you off trying to reach a higher bodyweight. If you make an effort to progress in strength while gaining weight most of that weight will translate into muscle, especially up to around 200 lbs for most average framed people, past that it gets a little harder to make solid gains without significant fat gains.

You shouldn’t be telling any 19YO person to take hormones, have you ever tried to get bigger/stronger? Eating large amounts of food can be a chore, but so can weightlifting or anything else that’s worth doing. 3000kcals is not very much food at all.

Anyone who has gained any noteable mass has had to eat large amounts of food, and its not like they woke up and suddenly were twice as hungry as before, they worked hard in the gym and ate amounts of food that at times made them uncomfortable, but eventually they got used to it and progressed because of that effort.

It doesen’t sound like you have any experience with this, so please stop posting your ‘advice’ on here.

Shoving more calories down your throat isn’t going to make you more muscular faster…there IS a point of diminishing returns. At 160 lbs. and 4,000 calories a day, you’re pretty much there.

are you even 160 lbs?

He is Nazi supporter looking for an e-fight. Everyone knows he is full of shit. And yeah, he is like 170lbs.

Best you just ignore him and continue to tell the OP what helped you get from where he is to a larger size.

More mass and small legs.

Why speak about the past? How many calories a day are you eating now?

You cannot add calories infinitely and expect your body to adjust to that food intake. I have plenty of experience here.

3,000 calories is a decent amount of food.
4,000 calories is more than a decent amount of food. It’s a lot of food.

I am not looking for an “e-fight”. I am looking to tell the OP what helped me get from where I was to a larger size. Get it?

I hope that OP isn’t so fucking desperate like you are. U are crazy.

If OP can eat that much and if he really eat 4000 calories a day that is good for him. So stop fucking.

Hail!

OP you train 1,5 year, you eat 4000 calories, your split looks good… Everything seems fine (if everything is like you wrote) so don’t worry yourself men! You were very small at start, that’s all. BUT now you look much better, so your progress is good. Obviously you are not ready right now, but you have something on your body! so that’s good to start some real gain.

So from that moment you should do everything like in the past. Plus keep smile on your face, eat a lot of everything, train more dead, bench, squat and don’t look back.

Marilyn Manson (<-with all respect) is good for Nominal Prospect  they both need more testosterone.

How can anybody reasonably claim that 3,500 calories isn’t a lot for a 160 lb. 19 year old to eat when there are people out there who can maintain 200 + lbs. on 2,000 calorie diets?

The vast majority of you who preach about the importance of food for gaining weight have a maintenance requirement well below 20 kcal/lb.

You are endomorphs with slow metabolisms and you know it. All IFFB pro’s and athletes known for their size have the same type of metabolism. They likely weighed 220 before they ever broke 2,500 calories a day. And they probably weighed that much at 16.

Until you have any idea what it’s like to have to eat 25kcal/lb just to MAINTAIN a weight under 200, don’t talk.

And you need more brains. Do you realize you just gave the OP the same advice as I did, after telling me that I was wrong?

I told the OP not to worry about his weight because it will increase automatically as he grows older, and consequently he doesn’t need to go to extreme lengths like eating 30 kcal/lb. just to hit 180 lbs. now.

But why, why don’t eat more men? He have nothing to lost! He can only be better with 3500cal then 2000. Yes, he can get fat with that, obviously, but he was so fucking small at start that this is something he even need, even with cost of high bf% (personally I think that with OP this is impossible BUT…)

Yes, there are people with 200+ lbs on 2000 diet, but who of them looked like young OP was loking 2 years before?

So! they weighted 220 before, our boy weight is 170 so what is your advice? don’t eat? NO! eat more of them!

Endomorfs, endomorfs… Well, I believe our body can change and adopt more than you think, obviously is harder but hey! OP are HERE! at Beginners bodybuilding page, so he want to be huge, he once choose that hard way so he should be ready for EATING and slowly changing his metabolism, not for calculate, not for crying that he isn’t endomorf, or something else… just for eat, work and gain.
Nominal Prospect wrote:

Yeah! you are good, men! Are you fat or something? maybe that’s the answer for your irrational beliefs…

And yeah, I am not a bulking freak who is on bulk from last 10 years. I was thinking like you at start and all I have from that time is fucking nothing special. Now I eat like I should from begin and everything looks much better, it’s simple going in good way.

I know that to much calories have minuses men, especially because people here talk to much about this, but I also know that everyone who is BIG here try to bulk and THIS IS WORKING. (In my opinion) They know what they do and how to do, that’s the big plus for them, so if you’re afraid that bulk or eating to much will be dangerous in stupid trolls hands with lack of self discipline, I’m with you, but if you think that even good & ‘intelligent’ bulk isn’t working (a priori) we have nothing to talk about…

Oh boy! not ‘increse automatically as he grows older’ because naturally for him means photo from 2 years men! I meant increase with 3500cal and with lifting. Then it will be all fine and nothing to worry about… then will be smile and every fucking thing… You know, past routine + 3500 + past motivation = OK.

Edit: It means ‘you are eating’,or ‘when you’ll eat’ whatever…

Where are you from?
Nominal Prospect wrote:

what’s your problem now?

…english is my 2nd language if you ask.

165 lbs to over 200+ lbs in 2 year span roughly. The pic shown here is after 3 1/2 years about. He didn’t have to wait until he was 30 for this to happen.

17-19
It can be done regardless of age. It depends on how bad you want it. Every person individually has very unique genetics. Very different from one person to the next. So who dare say what one is capable of?

He accomplished this using a power lifting strength based routine GASP.

Maybe he got lucky and hit a growth spurt between that time and magically put on over 40 lbs of mass?

or

Maybe he buckled down, ate like an animal, zoned in on his goal and trained with unrelenting nature?

He’s also 6’ tall like OP. So op who says you can’t hit 200 + in the next 2-3 years to?
