18 Inch Arms

No man fuck that, if that is your gaols and that is what you train for, and you are happy - then more power to you i say!

You do look thick though man. I bet you would be quite surprised with your physique if you got down to say… 10-12% - or maybe just 15% which you could do with little restriction at all…

Not entirely sure why you care, but for the sake of answering a question - Yes, it is mostly the attitude.

Also it should be of note that steely D has a better looking physique from what i have seen, yet is STILL more modest. That is a trait i respect personally. But that is just me. I know it is not something all men find equally moral.

Brook, thanks for that.

I’m no where near as big or ‘thick’ as I think I should or could be. I only posted because I somewhat meet the criteria for the thread and track my progress with photos every few weeks or so, so I had a couple.

I know I’m making progress and growing, but there are some big dudes on this site, much bigger than me-- and knowing that keeps me in check and dedicated knowing how much more I need to grow. I see my arms as toothpicks

One thing on the leanness-- I’ve made the decision that I’m going to err on the side of ‘being softer’ than ‘being leaner and smaller’. Personally, I’d be miserable trying to grow over the course of years on a restricted calorie bland diet and not seeing results.

I’d rather eat tons of steaks and food and see my numbers and size grow weekly over the course of a few years and then take a few months to come down a little, rather than worry about being able to see every muscle separation and vein and not grow for years (or grow veery slowly). I wouldn’t stick with it very long, and frankly I don’t have the time to waste.

In my professional life, I’m used to projects spanning over the course of years, so I’m familiar with seeing the end goal over long periods. This is just a snapshot on the way…

I think austin_bicep is doing a tremendous job, and at a young age. He’s a good example to gauge myself by even though he’s 20 years younger. I hope others are making good progress as well.

I think it’s pretty f*ing impressive either way. Even if you’re not the leanest person in the world, you can get lean and still be much bigger than small shredded guys, should you ever choose to.

Sry for the flash, but glad to be part of the club, heh heh. This is PRE-Workout BTW.

I generally agree on the softer side thing, there is no need for a non-competitive bodybuilder to maintain 8%… although surprisingly many do (it is generally the well developed guys who do not compete who do this rather than the well developed guys who do, as they need to drop to extremes they seem to enjoy the other side of bodybuilding - ie. cake!)

I digress.

For me, as i have not yet competed but plan to at some point, i don’t let myself get above 15% but i also dont drop to single digits either. There is no need.

I think that whenever the day comes that i know i wont ever step on stage (again), i will continue to maintain somewhere between 12-15%… it is a natural level that i can maintain with little to no real effort, and i can eat sickening amounts of food and still not rise above that too - as a non-training guy i hold very little fat and size indeed - ecto.

The thing is, bodyfat needs to be proportionate to some degree… for example someone who is professor X’s size will still look very muscular indeed under 20% bodyfat, yet someone who may look good at 10% would simply look skinny fat at 20%.
Point being the bigger you get the more fat you can carry [i]while still looking aesthetic[.i] to some degree.

You have that solid look, - if you add more fat i think it would drown your physique however, but at the moment you have just enough muscle to offset the fat you carry.

Of course this is all from the opinion of someone (myself) who puts a great deal of time and thought into such aspects of physique training and the mindset - so if someone is not concerned with how they look at all (or as much as) but want to be the strongest man on earth, they may well have a higher fat percentage than a chocolate covered peanut…

Good thread with lots of interesting info.

Congrats to those guys with 18" arms.

I agree with your assessment. I’m near that threshold of fat/lean gains. I’ve been working on tightening up the diet as far as junk and timing of carbs, etc. hoping to ‘recomp’ and grow into the fat  To some extent, I think I’m achieving this, at least this summer even given a couple set backs. Strength numbers are up, size is up, scale weight leveled off.

Good news is that summer is over and up here we’re already into ‘flannel’ weather, so I’ve got at least another 8 months before I have to worry about taking my shirt off in public

18.25" right arm 18" left arm cold @ 5’7" 220 lbs 16% bodyfat. still cutting and keeping them. i seriously want to hit 19.5’s next year after a bulk and cut. i think this thread is good.

gj man, i agree this thread kinda weeds out the stragglers.

Damn, I’m a tiny guy who just hit 16", though I’m 6’1" in height so apparently that makes my 16" arms bigger or some BS like that. I think I’m going to try this thing people have been telling me to do. I’ve been hearing I should EAT! OK well soon I will join this 18" club. Interested to see if what X said about 18" being the marker for good genetics will work out for me.

nice size austen. what are your goals?

Perspective picture.

Arms up 3.75" since April 08.

Shoulder width (arms at side around shoulders): 58+ inches, up from 54.25 in May 09, up from 50" in April 08.

I’m about 3-4 months behind where I thought I should be after some shoulder issues and about a 2-3 hiatus from a back strain this summer.

Not the leanest I could be, but I’m not wholly worried about that now and although someone will chime in that I’m obese, I’m enjoying the size and strength gains and the 2XL shirts that are tight up top and not so much in the tummy. Oh yeah, I’m an old fart that doesn’t really give a shit. I’m just enjoying my steaks.

Looking mountain-like. Power to you!

Haven’t checked this thread for a while.

@SteelyD
Your progress is nothing to sneeze at.

Let me chime in on ProX, “small forearms - early AAS use” heuristic. While I agree with it to a certain degree, it should be qualified a tad: the forearm consists of flexors and extensors. Yes, really

While my flexors are developed kinda well (but could be better), my extensors are relatively small. Nevertheless, I have decent guns (without AAS use) and did a lot of heavy rowing and curling before I started using lifting straps. I never did pronated barbell curls and other stuff workign the extensor muscles. Heck, I’ve seen a lot of mechanics and painters with better extensors than I have.

My point is: don’t judge people by their forearm development if only the extensors are visible.

Your forearms don’t look that small in relation to the rest of you. I am talking about completely disproportionate growth of the upper arm while having forearms that are much smaller in relation making me wonder how someone with upper arms that big could even build them up with forearms that small.

I finally hit this pumped, hoping to have them cold by new year’s.

Think it’s pretty possible if my close-grip bench keeps going up the way it has been

Does and 18 inch arm count if your fat…It’s like having 18 inch hubcaps instead of rims, just bs.

She’s got 19’s

AGHHHHH!!! this picture is vile Ms. 11.31

And I guess this would be a good time for a pix or it doesnt count thing, that way this 19" behemoth wont get counted for just saying “…19”…"

Not a Miss, just have a hott avatar. You look like a twink by the way… That was a direct insult unlike yours

H: 6’2.5"
W: 257 lb
Upper Arm: 18.0 inches
BF: 100%

Comment: Want to get big? Eat a surplus of calories, if you start getting too fat, eat less. 80% of people who have lbm of over 200 lbs on this website were at one point over 15% bf.

Two of the most well respected authors on this site were over 20%, CT and Chad ‘Waterberries’*!

*I have nothing but respect for both of these guys as they continue to ‘walk the walk’, as well as writing articles

*I forgot to add I’m 23 and I’m obese (BMI of 32.6)

Did you see someone that fat in this thread? If so, point them out specifically. Do you have any pictures of your own progress up, by the way?
