164 lb, 5'7 Getting Stronger

Hi
I’ve been training on and off for a couple of years but with no program or persistence. started seriously about a month or so, by doing deadlifts, squats and bench pressing for 4 days a week.

Impressive, you posted all necessary shots

Great progress, what are lifts? I’m a similiar height/weight

Thanks for commenting

Squats: 4 sets 180x6 going all the way down
Deadlifts: 4 sets 160x8
Bench: 4 sets 160x8

it aint heavy i’ve only just started doing squats and deadlifts.
also im not sure about the weight. sorry for the noob question but im only counting plates weight, not the bar right? duh

Most of the time people count the bar too. After all, it is still additional weight that you’re lifting.

You look OK but your lacking parts are your back thickness/lats and your legs - which is no surprise because you seem to be benching the same as you squat and deadlift - what the heck?

You should be deadlifting and squatting a lot more than you bench

And what is with the 4 ???

4 sets? 4 days? what the?

I suspect you need more calf focus too

These are not criticisms, just pointing you in right direction

Look into 5x5 I think and make bench not a priority for awhile

How could anyone look like that if they only started seriously lifting a month ago? And had no “persistence” prior? Only 164 lbs? Hmm.

Also Androgen’s very first post on T-Nation was a RMP?

And anyone who has that much muscle…knows that you add 45 lbs for the bar.

Come on people…

Agreed, those pics don’t match any of the numbers

He looks good, but he’s not heavily built. He’s got a good frame muscle shape and good proportions making him look more muscular. The weight and numbers line up.
His legs are on the shorter side and he genetically has good quad width so he doesn;t really have to squat a ton to get good quads.
As far as the bench there’s a good chance he may be benching Sarcev style for example. Your strength in any movement depends on your style of execution.
Also he lacks thickness, which he;'ll gain after he gains some more strength in the movements, particuklarly deadlift and rows.

I agree, I smell something fishy. The 164 might be accurate at a lean 5’7", but you don’t look like that without knowing at least how much the bar weighs.

Again, Thanks for the positive criticism.

Like i said im not new to the gym, and i know most of the muscle is not from the last month, but i do feel i got stronger overall lately, by doing compound movements and training regularly.

I relocated alot in the last two years, so i only trained sporadically. dont think i had a month straight.

This is my stats, not trying to scam anyone.
also the back pic is lame, i have a bit more thickness, but i do lack width.

I think the 5x5 program could be a good idia once i get my back a little thicker. i never did strength training, didnt go lower than 6 reps. right now i feel im progressing so i wont change it, but i definitely need to start some strength training to wake my system up and give it a boost.
was always in the hypertrophy range doing 6-12 reps, sometimes more, so i believe i have more size than strength (potential to size)

i do use “4” alot… dunno. i do 4 excersizes for 4 sets each body part- i think i need that volume. also got that from “Training for Newbies, part 2”

yh lol i lifted more than him 2 when i woz liek 14 lol

Sometimes I wonder if people are actually being fucking serious when they spell things.

looks very good, especially if you’ve only been lifting off and on. Most people find it’s important to change your routine after a while- if you’ve been doing the same lifting for months, you start to plateau. Your traps and biceps are very good- your lats and upper pecs could use some work- do you do pull-ups at all? Keep up the good work!
