Seen this when it came out.
IMO it’s no more or less legitimate than what the rest of the powerlifting world is up to. Granted, she’s using a massive amount of back arch, she’s wearing a suit, and all told the bar probably doesn’t move by more than a few inches. Then again, so the fuck what? It’s all legal within the rules of the sport. If this lift isn’t ‘legit’, then neither are any of the other videos of ‘thousand pound benches’ or whatever floating around the internet.
What she’s doing probably doesn’t cause any long term harm, certainly makes her a lot stronger, and is generally badass. Most of the criticism is basically sexist, and those responsible for it can go fuck themselves.
She looks like a Hollywood version of 14 to me (college gymnast with pigtails in).
Rather than criticize the form I’d say that almost every guy at my gym could learn something about form from watching her. Her arch is huge, but most guys I see benching lay on the bench like its a couch and don’t even tighten the core. She also keeps the bar very straight and stable unlike so many people who wave the bar around. They could have posted her cranking out 175x5 with no arch, shirt, and full ROM and it would be just as much a feat of strength, but somehow less of a novelty and less interesting.

Yes of course, the S-card
There couldn’t possibly be any true criticsm that doesn’t involve sexism.
What you said was sexist in the first place.
LOL instant panty-twist. I’ve no idea what mental gymnastics you’ve performed to construe what I’ve said as sexist, and beyond entertainment value I can’t think of a reason why I’d want to. But if there was any true criticism (note spelling) to be made, you haven’t bothered.
I’ve followed her lifting for a couple years now ever since she got her burst of internet fame. I didn’t realize she was dabbling in geared benching though. I hope she doesn’t make that her priority; I much prefer her raw lifts.
I’ve seen her before and I like her.
Contortionist or not, she is great. Ignoring the fact she’s a girl, shes also FOURTEEN years old.
I love how her feet are nearly behind her head, I will like watching her grow up.

Legitimate lift? Not unless you’re aware of a federation that has competitions for touch and go assisted can press. 1) she has help getting into position. 2) she’s pressing off a can that is held in place. The can is suspended over her chest and the trainer gives the bar a nice upward push with the can. 3) The interpretation of the bar being stationary on the chest is getting loser, but that rep was definitely touch and go.
That’s not to say she isn’t strong. There were videos a bit back of her benching 240 and it looked legitimate to me. Even the 310 is cool for an exhibition, but you’re a little off if you think that would pass in a competition.
As far as your sexism comments, get over yourself and your white knighting. She’s using the girl angle to get publicity. I know guys that could bench more than that raw at 14 and while they were strong, they weren’t getting the top level publicity she is getting. How is it then sexist to suggest that she should maintain the same standards of the lift as everyone else?
On a related note, I find it interesting that raw benchers with truly top level lifts (600+ or so) bench with their backs basically flat and with what is basically a shoulder width grip. My theory is that as the weights get heavy, your joints would just give out if you tried to bench really wide and with a massive arch. No proof of that, but I assume if guys like Spoto could get more going wider or with more of an arch, they would.

Jeremy Hoornstra
Rick Weil
Ed Coan (people forget he had a crazy good bench too)
Eric Spoto
James Henderson
Jim Williams
Bill Kazmaier
Ted Arcidi
All world class raw bench pressers. All had very little (if any) arch. It might not make sense from purely a physics perspective, but biomechanically it seems to be the strongest method for the majority of raw lifters.
Have you guys watched the doc on that russian girl who was trained by her dad she was strong as hell. This girl looks strong as well and obviously trains properly. I would hope that they don’t push the cat arch on her its probably mostly for maxes it is not sound technique for day in and out training, (obviously). Good for her, very impressive given that the average 14 yo male cant even deadlift that much.
Largely because you wouldn’t be bitching anything like as much if a 14 year old boy were doing the same thing. Like I say, you can go fuck yourself. Calling you a self-congratulating oaf doesn’t qualify as white knighting.

why are you guys beefing?
I already hit it, she wasn’t that great, neither was her form. case closed. one love.
Wow. I couldn’t bench that much when I was 14!
I agree that the 245 raw was more impressive.
I could deadlift that much at 14 but it was a Diesel Weasel type lift.

What?
240lb raw bench press for a 130lb 13 year old girl isn’t that great? (the 240 was last year, she is 14 now)
You realize that’s a junior world record right? In fact she may even beat the junior female EQUIPPED world record with her raw lift.
It’s pretty fuckin good, and so is her form.

my bad big guy, i thought the sarcasm was apparent. Unless I’m posting in the ‘beginners’ forum, i’m always being sarcastic, fyi.

Nobody really cares when a 14 year-old male football player bounces 300 pound off his chest and locks it out with a spot, because even if he did the lift cleanly it would only equate to being a fairly strong kid for his age. Naumova is benching at a very high level (potentially record setting for her age, weight, and gender). That inherently means she should be held to a higher standard. When you are potentially the best in the world, that warrants a little more scrutiny than when you are the best in your high school this year.
My decision to post on this thread actually has much less to do with the OP and more to do with your claim of sexism as soon as someone dares criticize a woman/girl. It doesn’t matter to you that the criticism has nothing to do with her gender or that there are material problems with the lift. You just assume that anyone who criticizes a girl is sexist. You also seem to ignore that she is benefiting from sexism, as she wouldn’t get a second thought if she were a boy.
Bros are jealous…? That’s impressive geared or not especially for a 14 year old. She benches more than most guys, has greater range of motion than the shit I see in your average box gym, and lowers the bar with control instead of just dropping it and bouncing it off their chest. For people hating on the arch, if that was a fat barrel shaped guy with a 4" range of motion would that be different?
