2 hours bouldering. Mostly repeating powerful boulders with a friend.
Did this again. Itās been a long week, so good to be back to some kind of normal again. Apart from feeling terrible, obviously.

Work for today:
3 hours of bouldering on the spray wall. Itās recently been reset, so plenty of chance to play routesetter for the day. Feeling really sore and under recovered everywhere.
When you say bouldering, are you climbing indoors unless otherwise specified?
Iāve never climbed outside at all, but I really enjoy indoor bouldering. Did it semi-regularly about 10 years ago, had a layoff after moving to the burbs and having kids, this spring have taken my boys a few times. May become our preferred āfamily physical activityā for rainy days.
One thing you said above that resonated with me: the day you mentioned knocking out a bunch of easier climbs. Obviously thereās some satisfaction in conquering harder problems, but some days I think itās good to just crank out the easy ones. I have days where I just want to go in and knock out every VB, V0, and V1 in the gym.
Itās inside unless specified, yeah. Iām pretty new to outside, just because the logistics of getting to and from a crag when conditions are good make it difficult.
I really enjoy outdoors, but weāre so new to it, iām not sure i get much physical training benefit from it. Iām confident i havenāt climbed anything harder than V3 outside, and even those would be rare.
I love taking my kids when the chance is there. Mine are pretty young still (maybe similar age to yours, from memory?), but watching them be brave and try hard in a place that i love is pretty awesome, even if i donāt get any climbing done myself.
Many of my favourite climbing days involve just cracking through a newly reset area, or a new gym. I donāt necessarily have to climb anything really hard, i just enjoy exploring the different movements and setting styles.
Work for today:
Leg curls: some
Squats:
3 x 5 @ 80kg
Shrugs: some
Press:
5 x 5 @ 50kg
Bench:
3 x 6 @ 80kg
Notes:
Yeah, mine are about to turn 7 and 5, respectively. Both are pretty active kids and we make a point to spend lots of time doing āactive thingsā - hiking in parks, going to playgrounds, going to the pool - rather than signing them up for any organized sports or doing āworkoutsā just yet. My older one is a little timid, but the younger one is always climbing on stuff whenever weāre outside, so I had the notion to take them to a climbing gym and he really seems to like it. I figure for now just having the familiarity with the place as an option for āthe weather sucks and we canāt do anything outsideā is a start.
Like you saidā¦when Iāve taken them to the gym, I donāt really expect to get much more than a couple āhey guys, take a break for a second and watch daddy do thisā climbs in every couple of minutes. Iām taking them more to let them climb than to climb myself, though as they get more comfortable and better able to follow the gym rules, I may be able to start climbing myself as well.
Mine are 7 and 9, and they both love it, although my eldest seems to mostly love covering himself in chalk. I also love that Itās a great environment for them, in my experience climbing gyms are always a really nice, friendly, positive place.
Work for today:
3 hours trying the new cave set. Climbed pretty well considering i felt pretty beaten up going in. Really nice mix of strong roof climbing and some techier vert and near vert stuff on either side.
sounds like a powerlifter
@dagill2 nice to see you around man. Howās it going?
@simo74 little dude says he goes climbing to be like daddy, turns out what that means is stand around talking and covering himself in chalk. Painfully accurate
@whang Iām really good mate, thanks for dropping in. Iād say iām really busy, but looking at the work load some of the guys on this site have, I definitely feel like iām half assing it. Mostly just working, school, parenting and climbing. How are you doing?

Work for yesterday:
3 hours bouldering, mostly spraywall and moonboard. Had to try very hard quite a lot, which is nice.
Iām pretty sure parenting takes up a big chunk of time, so cut yourself some slack lol. Iām doing well! Preparing to move back to cali after 4 years in NY!
@whang absolutely, i donāt really beat myself up much about my time management. On one hand, I could definitely achieve more, but on the other hand, the amount of times i choose to sit on my ass and watch TV or doomscroll instead of being productive is essentially zero.
Whats the draw of Cali?
Work for today/yesterday:
Spent a few hours yesterday out in the sun exploring a new crag.
2 hours this morning exploring the new set inside.
Getting better at trying hard outside, but still not at a point where iām climbing at the level iām capable of indoors. @tbabcock60 any tips on how to translate indoor ability to outdoor bouldering?
