Ended up getting involved with a half naked dude. We were pulling on plastic and climbing that wood for a good half hour until our fingers were sore. In the end i finished before him, but both of our fingers took a beating. Sweaty, sweaty times.
Finding it really difficult to get any time away from the kids or work at the minute. Getting kind of frustrated, to be honest. Feel like progress is slipping away.
But youāre still getting in there and doing something with the time you do have. Life happens. Just keep on going and like all things, this phase too, will pass!
Got interrupted by kids halfway through my planned sets, but thats ok, was just meant to be getting blood moving a bit. Will do some heavier work later
Iāve probably watched too much RP content recently, definitely tried to keep all the reps Dr. Mike approved. Pretty certain iām not building any muscle at this level of deficit, but you never know.
Despite some dietary mishaps over the weekend, looks like weight is continuing to trend in the right direction. Iāll be away for a few days from wednesday and iām planning lots of protein, lots of walking.
Knocked out the new slab set up to 7A reasonably comfortably. Not really my strength, but this set was pretty mild. Too overheated and overcrowded to really project anything hard.
Iād call it hard bouldering, but only because i was making it hard. Operating on 2 hours sleep, and all the other excuses, but also i was climbing like a fucking idiot. Ah well, recover and go again.
2 hours hard bouldering on the spray wall inbetween testing some new routes before theyāre āreleasedā to the public.
insert some filthy double entendre here
Really hard work today. Iāve definitely cut calories too low. Time to start upping calories and reaping the benefits. Hopefully it shows on the scales.
Again, tried to make these Dr. Mike approved reps.
Definitely pushed calories low, had to sit down for a minute playing football with my little man earlier because i was feeling light headed. Also feeling psychologically ready to finish the weight loss soon, starting to feel the call of the iron again and the desire to train harder than my body currently allows. Pretty good timing for it, kids will be back to school soon which will free up a load of time, weathers starting to turn, which makes training outside more difficult, and iām nearing 25lbs lost this year, which was my goal coming into the summer. Once the kids are back, iāll see what the options are for local gyms and look to get back under the iron.
Excited for this, itās been great having you back round but I have no idea what any of the bouldering stuff means (ironically going myself for the first time today, imagining Iāll be awful).
Any ideas on style of training youāll want to go with?
Excited to see how you go mate. I think youāll be suprised. If you choose the right route, being tall and strong will get you a really long way.
Its going to depend on which gym i end up going to, if any. Iām expecting my ego will take a knock early, so Iāll probably pre-empt that and go for something like 531 beginners prep school. If i do find a gym i can consistently get to, be prepared to see some seriously underwhelming numbers.
Think tall and strong help but man there were some tiny, ridiculous holds (assuming thatās what theyāre called?) pretty sure thatās where weighing 90kg+ doesnāt help so much!
Seems like a really sensible approach, being someone that has had a multi-year break myself and lots of months long breaks, youāll be disappointed but muscle memory is real and I suspect CNS recruitment memory is a thing as well (sure thereās some more technical wording for that).
Smashed through most of the new slab set, as well as a few special problems set as part of their slab celebration. Cut it short as my bicep went trying a pretty dynamic wrestl-ey problem.
@alex_uk I come against the same problem. When i started climbing, i weighed north of 90kg and quickly realised thereās a limit to how strong my fingers are likely to get, and losing weight is easier than gaining finger strength.
