2.5 hours bouldering.

No new sets today, so lots of projecting trickier climbs. Lots of trying hard and falling off stuff.

Upper back warm up

Powerclean:
Singles working up to 60kg

Front Squat:
Triples working up to 80kg

Bench:
5s working up to 5 x 5 @ 75kg

Notes:

  • Did these essentially as a giant set due to time. Was mostly just feeling out where i am with each exercise to set appropriate TMs
  • Tweeky elbow, lower back and knee today. Man, i’m getting old.

Mate, it is the last day of August, don’t you have like 4000 swings you have to do?

5345 in theory. I sacked that idea off when it got to 8 days to go and i still couldn’t pick a kettlebell up pain free.

Today was a high gravity day, but i still got a lot of climbing done so i’ll chalk that uo as a volume day and leave it at that.

In other news: looks like i’m moving location sooner than i thought, so gym is likely out for the foreseeable. Back to the kettlebells and bodyweight stuff. This year has been very frustrating in terms of training, really struggling to find any rhythm.

Fun for tonight:

Ran out of skin on my fingers, twisted an ankle on a stupid fall, skinned a shin on a stupid jump. Add that to the tweaky knee, dodgy wrist, crumbling lower back and fucked elbow and i’m starting to feel my age.

3 hours bouldering

Went with a mate from work, so lots of technique work and volume. Definitely feeling under recovered so will stop climbing until Monday. Give myself time to regrow some skin and recover ready for a new set.

Notes:

  • Wanted to get some training done, but avoid anything heavy. I’m still feeling pretty broken, so i’m going to take the chance and have a few chilled days now, planning to start a cycle of Rites of Passage on Monday, sticking to the right days this time. I’ll try and put some basic structure around training that hits my actual priorities.

I really try to avoid mentioning any of that stuff on here, but i probably slip up some times.

I try to only put the stuff that’s relevant to other training.

In other news: i think i solved the mystery of the disintegrating body and pisspoor recovery: i seem to have dropped about 7lbs in less than a week. Probably no surprise i’m struggling to recover from pretty minimal volume.

This sounds more like the symptom, not the cause. Something to think about, perhaps?

Notes:

  • Plan was to do this with 24kg this time round, but i quickly realised that was a no go. I probably have the strength, i certainly don’t have the technique and every dodgy catch at that weight was causing more wrist and forearm pain, which is obviously an issue.
  • i’ll probably look for an alternative for the snatches in future weeks because this was taking off any remaining skin i had left on my fingers.
  • Feeling pretty much niggle free after spending most of last week away from training and focussing on flexibility and mobility work.
