Bob is on certain…lists…that disallow him from being within 200m of children. It’s total bullshit, he definitely was never anywhere near that one park.
Maybe he was just the fall guy for someone else.
I have been away for a while, but happy to see you’re still kicking it. 70 kgs strict press is a rare sight to behold.
Cheers man. I was trying to make it common place so I have a good base to move on to bigger and better things.
Can we chat about this?
I feel the same- I want to anchor myself confidently with 135/225/275 press, bench, squat for a few weeks before trying for anything heavier. With press, I just walk up to the bar and do a cold single- a lot, because I can do so in my garage. That’s a bit more trouble with bench and squat.
So. Are we thinking take a % of the anchor point and do 5x5 around it? Singles every session? I’m up for anything and especially what @Cyrrex says because he put the idea in my head.
This is a good idea. And how I got over the 75kg mark. I would have 70kg on the bar and just do a few singles through out the work out. Even doing a squat work out I’d press the odd warm up weight. Or take weight off the bar to get my 70kg.
Sooner rather than later doing a single became too easy. And I could do a double no real effort and then a triple easy as you like.
Once I could press 70kg for an easy triple I knew 75kg would be easy enough for two reps.
I’m thinking singles every session. But that doesn’t mean I’m right.
Work for today:
Squat (ss. Push ups and pull ups, Krypteia style):
5 x 70kg
5 x 80kg
5 x 90kg
5 x 100kg
5 x 110kg
5 x 90kg
5 x 90kg
5 x 90kg
5 x 90kg
5 x 90kg
Notes:
- Nice to be moving again. Feel pretty detrained so will stick to some super basic sessions for a week or so before returning to the program.
- Nice to see that Squat strength hasn’t really suffered much while away. The squats themselves felt pretty easy and comfortable.
Hope things pick up for you buddy ![]()
Hey @dagill2 when you ran Mass Made Simple, did you follow the bench protocol exactly as written or did you employ something like 5/3/1? That program calls to me, but the bench work just breaks my brain.
I did a mish mash of the ebook version of the program and the article version. So 2 days a week lifting:
Day 1:
Front Squat 531 (5s PRO)
Bench 531 BBB
Complexes as per ebook
Back squats as per ebook
Day 2:
Deadlift 531 (5s PRO)
Press 531 BBB
Complexes as per ebook
Back squats as per ebook
Much appreciated dude! Kinda sounds like what I’d be leaning toward: steal the squatting and complexes ideas and map it onto something else.
I’ve always read the first bits of MMS as “do some basic, sensible strength program here” because he really doesn’t make much of a fuss about it, and is happy for people to make plenty of subs as well whereas he’s pretty adamant on no subs for the Complexes and squats.
Work for today:
50 burpees, 5:58
Notes:
- Spent most of the day today and yesterday being medium active with the kids. It became increasingly obvious over the few days, especially when swimming, that I’m slowly becoming a fat sack of shit. This is not what I’m about so, inspired by @ChongLordUno, time to take action. Let’s get moving. I’ll do some measurements and “starting points” tomorrow when I’m not still mildly pumped from the burpees.
Good man
Burpees. Neck. Yer. Some. Down. Get.
Not you too!! Nice work
@ChongLordUno I saw a wise man on a podcast I watched recently say that 50 a day was a good jumping off point. Ugly bastard, but he was right.
@simo74 long term, I’d like to never have to do a burpee again because I’m getting all my activity from mountain biking or climbing or swimming or kayaking or hiking or paddleboarding or whatever. Literally anything but burpees. Unfortunately I’m not doing enough of any of those things, so I have to do a burpee forfeit for being a boring fucker.
@ChongLordUno what’s a good time to be hitting for 50 before I look to start progressing beyond?
Done even bother with time at this point @dagill2 mate
Your focus should purely be perfecting the technique.
Get stronger in the technique and the times take care of themselves.
Your first big goal should be 100 unbroken
Take your sick ideas and jog on mate
