I have stopped looking in the mirror:joy::joy::joy:

Is this you and @jdm135 trying to one-up each other?

I was just following the program, but definitely possible, yes. He has a stronger Bench than me right now, so he wins this one.

Unimaginable to me that your press absolutely crushes mine, and I’ve been training the press all year with top priority, and my bench is bigger while I didn’t train bench all year, and have never really made it a focal point.
I’m game for some one-up-man-ship - witness some awful front squat stuff I’ve done and been absolutely defeated by Dagill2; but TBH on the bench press this morning he was not in my intimate thoughts at all. All I wanted to do was finish the session and get to work.

Until gyms reopened post Covid (April, I think?), I hadn’t benched in over a year, I’ve lost a lot of strength off an already poor lift.

Likewise: today was just about getting the basics of the program done so I could move on. I’m not really into one up manship in strength stuff, it’s a recipe for disaster. I like to reserve one up manship for enduring suck.

Work for today:
20mins ring pull ups

This is brilliant. Instead of listing the reps, I shall only list the time spent on the pull up exercise going forward! 20 minutes just sounds better than 10 pull ups.

Work for this arvo:

Leg curls:
3 x 15

Powerclean:
5 x 60kg
1 x 70kg
1 x 70kg
1 x 70kg
1 x 80kg
1 x 80kg

SLDL:
3 X 15 @ 100KG

Notes:

  • Playing catch up from earlier in the week. Had a bit of extra time so had a crack at figuring out where I stand on powercleans. Definitely have the power to go heavier, but not the coordination. Nearly fucked my wrists on both reps at 80kg by getting halfway through the lift and forgetting what I was meant to be doing. I’d definitely need more practice if I was going to use heavy powercleans regularly.

Work for today:

Front squats:
5 x 5 @ 80kg

Pendulum Squats:
3 x burn outs

Notes:

  • Heard the words every man wants to hear on the way home: let’s have a BBQ so rushed a quick session in. Those pendulum squats are awesome. Really full ROM and no way to lock out. Awesome pump.

A couple great sessions there my man. What’s a pendulum squat?
Power cleans are badass. Great work.

Pendulum Squat looks like this:

Not that exact model. It’s like I imagine a sissy Squat in the smith machine feels. A Squat motion but with feet out in front and a really long ROM

Weigh in: 201.2lbs which, even bearing in mind a fair bit of bloating, is too much. Time to dial the calories back downwards. I’m not getting stronger enough to justify getting that much bigger.

On the training front, time is getting hard to come by and stress is high. I think I’m going to shove this back in the right direction with a week (maybe 2) of just doing WODs as a deload before resuming the squat plan with a different approach to upper body.

Any ideas/challenges, feel free to post them.

If you haven’t already, check out my blog post for hotel room conditioning.

Otherwise, I really dig the wodwell site. Set the filter to whatever equipment you have.

I also like the 100 thrusters with penalty for setting the bar down thing I did a few days ago.

10-8-6-4-2 of DB manmakers, devils press, thrusters, burpees, as fast as possible.

I used a fix weight for the first three, but if you have multiple sets of DBs at your disposal you could make it even more wicked.

I’m such a big fan of EMOM: Power clean, push press, power clean, front squats (some).
I think if that’s the only training one ever did, physique would be ok.
