10 Miles Back Again

Nah, he’d probably have done 300 before and do some “bodyweight hell” after

@ChongLordUno No dramas mate, we find find ourselves short on time sometimes

Work for today:
Press:
10 x 5 @ 50kg

5 snatches @ 40kg
5 burpees

Notes:

  • Definitely jonesing for a change of pace for upper body training.
  • Started the workout challenge @alex_uk set out but was sliding around all over the place on those burpees. Then I got a bit of glass in my hand and thought “fuck this” and called it a night. I can see the potential for this one though, especially with bumper plates to make it more satisfying. Slamming your weights down at the end of a set is anabolic as fuck, even only 40kg. It also occurs to me that me and @alex_uk are doing burpees differently. I’m doing them @ChongLordUno style, with no jump and a proper push up.

What goals are you seeking, if anything specific, that will drive your choice of upper body training? Asking for a friend lol

I would like to be more awesome.

More specifically: I’d like to look bigger, but I will happily settle for a bigger Press. My goals include an 80kg Press by year end. In my head, thats bodyweight, even if the scales disagree.

That would indeed make you awesome.

And my current approach isn’t getting me there in time, especially not if I have to cut 10-20lbs as well. Time to up the intensity.

Real men bite the glass from their hands and spit it out in an aggressive manner, then continue whilst bleeding profusely.

I nearly when with 60kg, but it didn’t because it would mean loading 2 lots of plates (can’t put 20kgs on with the roof being low!) and it probably would have been the wrong training effect, in hindsight it also would have been far to heavy for my shoulders given the 10 mins of near Continuous shoulder pasting.

You need a Rocky training montage.

I really like (/hate) high rep clean and presses for making you hate life. For this one though, the snatch felt like the right call and I can’t quite put my finger on why.

That looks like a real arse kicker!

Traps, shoulders and chest. In my opinion, those three give the appearance of looking ha-uuuuuge.

Something like Morning Star, done with dips, chest flyes and wide-grip upright rows as your main assistance, would be deadly.

Just stand on one leg while weighing yourself, your scale won’t count the other leg.

@Koestrizer it was. Hence, today’s session

@kdjohn I’ll almost certainly run Morningstar again, but the next 6 weeks have to fit around the leg program I’ve got going on and just using the press part of morningstar isn’t cutting it for me.

@Cyrrex I tried that, but had to hold on to the wall. It worked, I weighed less.

Work for today:

Press:
5 x 5 @ 52.5kg

Squat:
2 x 5 @ 95kg

Lever Row:
Some heavy-ish sets
1 big ass drop set

Ring pull ups:
20mins of “some reps”

Notes:

  • Mission aborted after 2 sets of squats. I was still sore going in and everything felt like shit. Knocked out tomorrow’s back session today so I can just do squats tomorrow and spend the day recovering.

Work for today:
Squats:
10 x 5 @ 95kg

Leg Press:
4 x 25 @ 90kg + sled weight

Leg extensions:
3 x 30

Notes:

  • In a big time pinch today. Little man’s self isolating and the missus has come down with something so had to leave time to get homeschooling done before work and other commitments. Turned some Rage Against the Machine on in the car and knocked this out in a shade over 30mins. I owe hamstring curls and SLDL later in the week.
  • Squats felt like shit, still fatigued. Will probably do a deload of sorts next week, maybe even two weeks before upping TMs to something scarier and finishing the 12 weeks out. My better half has also decided, in her wisdom, to sign me up for a fundraising challenge that involves doing 3000 squats in August without checking first. Which is fine, I guess, and plays into the whole “accumulation” thing I’m trying to do, but means recovery will need to be upped further. Debating doing 3000 push ups too, because why not?

Body weight or under a bar ?

It doesn’t specify, so I’ll mix and match.

  • Another quick one today, in a time crunch with home schooling etc.
  • Everything moved fairly comfortably today, extra food is paying off in the gym, if notnthe mirror.
