10 Miles Back Again

So, after another disappointing weigh in (this time at least I know why: drastically reduced NEPA and fairly poor dietary compliance), I pulled the pin early on the CarbonDiet app. Its estimated my daily calories to be around 1700 kcal a day which makes me very, very sad. That will be starting on Monday since that’s the next day I’ve not got any food planned, bought and prepped. Here’s to hoping that its calculated things way wrong and it only takes a week to notice its mistake and give me more food.

Sorry for cloggling up your log

As a 5ft0 person, 100lbs isn’t exactly underweight

That is just sick

In your specific case it’s an issue and you are fully aware of this

1700 calories man. That’s breakfast

Unless something has changed since I was last aware, your periods have stopped, along with other telltale signs of malnutrition. This makes you, by definition, underweight.

@ChongLordUno I’ve been operating on 2500 kcal a day as maintenance, so this could be interesting. I’m going to work on the assumption that it will learn/sober up over the course of a week and that therefore I only have to tolerate one week of this bullshit. What’s the worst that can happen in one week?

Well, maybe not fully aware. On the other hand, she has put on a few pounds over the past months, so maybe that is progress.

Ouch. That hurts to even read. Although I generally don’t find these estimates reliable whatsoever.

1700 sounds really low for a guy of your…proportions. But I am not sure I understand the context.

@Koestrizer @Cyrrex yeah, this could be a painful week. Last time I was around this weight and used 1800 kcals as a baseline, I dropped weight like anything and I was doing less exercise and was noticeably weaker so I’m seeing this as a shock to the system to get the weightloss started, and assuming I’ll be allowed at least 2k on week 2.

And yes, @Cyrrex, I am fat

Haha, the response I was hoping to invoke. But you’re not fat, mate. Was really just referring to your height/weight in general.

Work for today:

TBDL:
3 x 80kg
3 x 120kg
2 x 140kg
1 x 150kg
1 x 160kg
1 x 170kg
1 x 180kg

TB press:
5 x 30kg
5 x 35kg
5 x 40kg
3 x 50kg
1 x 60kg
0 x 65kg

W2D2 of couch to 5k

Notes:

  • Just max testing for a few lifts today before the new template
  • The 180kg was a pure ego lift that I shouldn’t really have done, but felt good to put 4 plates back on the bar for the first time in many, many years, even if it is cheaty high handled trap bar.
  • Actually weighed my trap bar for the first time today, came in at a touch over 30kg, so it’s nice to know I’ve been right all along.
  • TB press felt easier than expected. Happy with this, shows an increase in all round pressing ability, not just getting good at pressing. Will be using this for my main pressing work as I expect to be losing a fair bit of weight during this cycle and I don’t want my ego knocked too badly when I start missing PRs on regular pressing.
  • Running was awful, found it pretty hard going today, not sure why.

Big boy territory. Nice!

I must say I really dig your workouts lately. You can practically feel the shift in intensity and intent here. It’s motivating to follow along. Keep it up!

Why? Did you have bad technique? OR DID YOU FEEL AWESOME AND STRONG?

Also, I’m pretty sure you’ll have to deal with some crazy traps DOMS ahahah

Cheaty or not, it is probably the variant that the majority of us should be doing.

Yeah high handle > low handle ten times

Was also thinking of it as “instead of traditional deadlifting”.

My long, valgused legs prefer the conventional but yeah for 90% of people it’s probably better

@aldebaran it felt like I was barely strong enough to do it, and twisted my spine in all sorts of snappy directions to do it. It does mean that I’m already at the second highest standard for lower body strength already though, even without any specific training and minimal weight loss so its promising. Also adds a fair chunk to my predicted TM, making my BBB weights look a little more tasty. They were looking a bit easy before.

@Cyrrex I kind of agree. My ego won’t let me abandon straight bar deadlifting completely yet, but for the purposes of this particular template, high handle trap bar will certainly do the job better.

@Koestrizer thanks man. I’m oddly enjoying being able to focus on “everything” right now after months of press, press, press. The difficulty is in stopping myself trying to do literally everything.

Wouldn’t high handle trap bar deads help your ego?

Not really, I’m not under any illusions that I’m strong on any of these implements. Its more a mindset thing that says that the powerlifts are the only true measures of strength, and that everything else is a tool to bring those up. I know it not to be true intellectually.
