10 Miles Back Again

Me too, it was awful. I think the last session took me over an hour to do 10 sets because it was just awful.

Sorry Grandad, tell us a story about how they did it in your day

A bit late to the discussion. I like (care about) good quality audio. Coincidentally, the best in-ear headphones I’ve ever had was a pair of Mpow Judges. This model isn’t made anymore. Fortunately I picked up several. 17 quid each. If they weren’t so dastardly good I wouldn’t be afraid to lose them.

I reckon dips would be a bit more difficult than usual after 6x10 push presses.

Yeah, regarding things like earbuds, clothing, fitness equipment, etc. I am much more of a ā€œbuy nice or buy twiceā€ kind of person. If you don’t care about audio quality too much and they’re not too awful at staying in your ear, then nothing wrong with sticking with something cheap.

Nice and price-point being correlated perhaps but certainly not causally so. A pair of Beats and a pair of Jabras both are at the bottom of my all-time audio experiences.

@Bagsy I am extremely poor at dips anyway, but I do typically use them at the end of the workout with the point being to burn out already fatigued muscles so I’m not too surprised.

@Voxel (still struggling with the name change), I don’t care in the slightest for audio quality, since I’ll likely be listening to podcasts/youtube through them anyway. I just want something that stays in my ear, which is more difficult than you’d think with my mutant lobes.

Sure, but I have a hard time believing that a $30 pair of wireless earbuds from Amazon would satisfy my needs. I’ve tried a couple of them several years ago, and they were so bad that I lifted for at least a year without any music.

Anker soundbuds NB10 on ebay is just 24 dollars. Pretty decent audio quality and battery life, considering it’s ergonomically designed for sports/running. Can send you the link if you want.

If that’s directed at me, I’m very happy with my Bose Soundsports. Worth every penny. But more than happy to test anyone’s hypotheses as long as I’m not paying – send earbuds my way!

@whang thanks for the tip, but just to clarify, I really don’t care about sound quality or battery life or any of the above. I’m more than happy to pop into Tescos on my way home and pick up the cheapest, nastiest Ā£5 set of headphones they stock if I find I need replacements.

Work for today:

Press (ss. Band pull aparts)
5 x 40kg
5 x 50kg
3 x 52.5kg
8 x 55kg (PR)
5 x 5 @ 52.5kg

Giant set (3 rounds):
~12 x Trap bar press
~ 12 x lateral raises
20 x band pull aparts

Notes:

  • Managed to squeeze a quick session in. Only had 30mins but kinda managed to squeeze most of the planned stuff in. Some subs for equipment I didn’t have time to get to (power tower) and core cut, will try and get a bit of that done tomorrow.
  • Topset of 8, as planned. Guaranteed PR, because I’ve not used it for top sets before, but it went smoothly. Probably the smoothest PR set of recent times.
  • SSL sets also went really smoothly, really tried to focus on rep quality and tried to avoid the time limit getting in my head and making me rush shoddy reps.

Oh okay…carry on then, music peasant…

So a question…you say 8 was planned, but did you have any reps left in the tank? Was it a true AMRAP, or did you just aim for that number and stop?

I hit 8 and stopped because it was the goal. Bar speed was slowing slightly, but not too much so probably another 2-4 reps in the tank if I had a gun to my head.

Well, then, you can start next session peacefully because you’ll know you’ll have another PR!

That’s the plan.

This sounds like smart thinking. Me, I’d gone for the 2-4 reps and then try to beat that next time. I can’t say this is successful, but it might be if nutrition is on point.

It is 100% not. I’ve not just fallen off the bandwagon, but lost sight of it at this point.

One of the best take-aways from 5/3/1 imo

How has the @T3hPwnisher methodology been treating you so far? Are you looking hyoooge yet?

Or is this holding you back?

I would not like to claim to be following pwns methodology. Certain elements are there, but I’m absolutely not claiming to follow it 100%, that would be doing pwn a disservice.

As for getting huge, a fair bit of lax and emotional eating has certainly helped add some size. I’m not sure how much of it is useful though.

All of it will help in the 80kg goal! 73 days left this year!
