The baby log is probably 6 inches diameter max, the real log is 12-14 inches, I’m not sure how much carryover that would have.
Thinner logs are harder to clean I think. Easier to press
Ah, yeah, that is like a totally different thing I guess.
Work for today:
Z-press (ss. Pull ups):
3 x 10 @ 40kg
2 x 8 @ 40kg
Lateral raises: some
Quick session before work. Left shoulder feeling a little off here, maybe an early morning, no warm up thing or might be the obscene volume of pressing I’m putting it through, that shoulders never been the healthiest. See how it pans out on Sunday
What’s your warmup normally?
I tend to use the @ChickenLittle warm up of “meh”. I used to have a 2 minute routine before benching that helped me perform better, but I don’t use it anymore because I don’t have big bench sessions so I pretty much just work up pretty quickly to working weights. In this case, I did literally nothing because its 40kg and it was 5am.
lucky wife
Jokes on you, we aren’t married.
Given how much shoulder issues suck I wouldn’t recommend this. But, I get that brevity has its perks. Do you have any bands? If anything, doing band pull-aparts and this move @j4gga2 posted once where you kind of initiate the pull-apart (to get tension in the back muscles) and then move your hands overhead in between warm-up sets is better than doing absolutely nothing. Depending on the band it might also be possible to wrap around a spoke on the bench to do some rows.
If it continues to be an issue, I’ll definitely look for a solution. I have bands in my home gym I can start taking if needed, although there’s probably some hidden away at the gym somewhere anyway.
For now, I’m just going to chalk it up as an anomaly and keep an eye on it. Feels like a muscular issue rather than a joint issue, so not overly worried.
If you “hate” thinking “warm-up” you could replace the term with preparatory. Or, do something that’ll actively build your upper back. A bigger upper back means less ROM which means bigger bench.
Just to clarify: I don’t typically bench, because I don’t currently care that much about it.
Didn’t catch that
I mean, this basically was just a warmup.
(my subtle way of getting after you for working with sub 50 loads, I thought we were past this)
Any ideas how much the unweighted log weighs?
@Cyrrex I’m not disagreeing with you, I am weak. But someone kept trying to persuade me to do BBB work, so i sneak the occasional session in.
@alex_uk I think it’s the 50kg log from the pictures I can find online, but I’m in no way sure. It might be the 40kg.
Ahh, you should have said it was BBB. Carry on.
To this day, the only drill I’ve found that consistently gets people to feel their low traps

Woah…I just sat in my chair and did this without the band, and you instantly feel it. WHO KNEW. I guess you knew.
Hahah. I was lucky enough to intern with the guy in that video. Learnt a hell of a lot
