Paused deadlift (ss. Walking lunges):
3 x 8 @ 110kg
Trap bar carries
3 × 1min @ 100kg
Notes:
I think I lost about 5L of sweat doing this. It’s hot (disclaimer: for Britain)
Paused deadlifts easier than i thought, although i frequently found myself not bothering to actually lower it all the way to the floor, so i guess some of these would be called hovering deadlifts.
I’d been feeling like loaded carries were missing from my training for a while, so i thought I’d crack them out this arvo. I’ve gotten quite sucky at them. Actually felt grip starting to fail on these, which is unheard of.
Very nice session! Good work in here - loving the accumulation of volume.
I’ve stolen from @T3hPwnisher and strap in sometimes for farmers walks if I’m going for distance (since most of the time farmers in competition are part of a medley and are only like 50’, which anyone can hold onto anything for that short a duration).
I don’t actually own straps, since I never previously needed them, but I’ll probably get hold of some soon for back work.
Thanks man. I’m starting to play around with assistance again, which might just be my plan for the remainder of the training year to be honest. I don’t have massive goals for squat or deadlift over the short term so just following a basic progression and plugging in whatever extras I want seems like a good shout.
Were the main deadlifts very easy for you? If not the ratio seems to be out of whack a bit. Especially if these were hovering deads. I find those massively difficult.
Good work anyways!
Bar speed was good. I wouldn’t say they were easy, but nowhere near maximal. Possibly something to do with trying to force myself to switch sides on mixed grip, which I don’t typically do. The configuration I’m not used to definitely felt a lot heavier than normal.
To be honest, I was shocked at how light the paused deads felt with the same weight I’ve been using for SLDL.
Yeah that’s what I’m getting at. Seems to be an easy variation for you. I have only done hovering deads once and with a weight similar to the one you chose. I found them difficult enough but had a good bit more as a max than you. Add pauses and shit gets nasty.
Well other possible explanation is that I just suck at the variation and your ratio is the normal one, haha.
I expected them to be much harder, because I always fail deads at the floor or pretty close to, so i assumed starting from there would be a challenge. I was hesitant to put 110 on the bar, and figured I could always do less reps if needed.
I LOVE 1 > 10 > 1. Such a neat, OCD-friendly way of getting 100 reps in.
My favorite was always 135 (pounds) on incline bench and BW pullups. I haven’t done it in some time so I’d probably do more on the bench now but it does get plenty tiring at the midway point.
In 2018, the CF Games included Linda. They used the average weight of the competitors to select the weights. They wanted everyone to use the same weights.
Deadlift - 295
Bench - 195
Squat Clean - 145
They had me liking that until they specified squat cleans. I can power clean but full cleans are terrible.
The reps are 10 to 1 and they capped it at 17 minutes! I tried the scripted workout once and quit after 10, 9, 8, 7. I was doing rest/pause reps on bench and I struggled for 28 minutes. I can’t imagine being strong enough to do that in 17 minutes.
