Short on time at the moment @dagill2? Come on tell the family they come second place and you’ve got a 100kg ohp to hit!

Yeah, work and family stuff piling up a little at the minute. No biggie, still getting the essentials in.

Work for today:

Squats:
3 × (5 x 1) @ 122.5kg

Giant set (5 rounds):
5 x paused squat (100kg)
20 x back extensions
20 x V-ups

Finisher:
1 > 10 > 1 walking lunges and air squats

Notes:

  • Absolutely knackered today, forced myself through this more than I’d like. Pulled a few tricks out the bag just to get it done.
  • I’ve been missing more squat days than I’d like and it shows. I can already feel the sore on the back of my neck from the bar, technique felt all over the place and bracing was just awful. Promising sign I guess is that even with all that going on, I was never in any danger of missing reps, even those I massively misgrooved or lost air on. Sign that strength is slowly growing (although god knows how).
  • Am looking forward to having a second straight bar to make a more serious giant set. Belt squats after paused squats (or even paused front squats if I’m feeling frisky), sounds awful and likely effective.
  • Finally got round to trying @mr.v3lv3t quads finisher and it sucked as promised. Didn’t brave it with the weight vest though, mostly because it’s still well over 25 degrees out.
  • Its hot as balls today. Not Texas hot, but south coast of Britain hot, which is definitely worse.

Does 98 with a heat index of 105 count? That’s what my weather was today. That’s 36+ and 40+ for you weirdos.

Wait. I just learned that 25 is 77 F. That’s hot??? It was warmer than that when I woke up.

If it’s not actually raining, we count it as summer and go to the beach. Yesterday was hot enough that it made front page of the papers, probably topped out at about 32 I’m told.

Your forgetting classic summer, warm and raining.

Can’t speak for Dagill directly, but when you hear people in Europe complaining about the heat, it is often because there is almost never any relief from it. Houses are usually not air conditioned. My gym is not air conditioned.

Currently 29 where I am now, and I can tell you it is less pleasant than mid to upper 30s when I lived in Chicago.

Yep, airconditioned homes are almost unheard of here - but then again, we usually only get like 4-6 weeks of (somewhat) hot weather here.

Another factor is probably differences in the way houses are built. Our building has (at floor level) 55+ cm solid brick walls. In the summer, the walls soak up heat from the sun and releases it during the night.

Should have been done 122.5kg X 15!

I’m starting to think the strength might be there. Some of those reps where really, really sloppy and still moved quickly.

Might have to rethink some training to address the actual issues.

I’m sure the strength is there! Get after it, you can chase the squat and ohp!

Happy cake day!

Sounds like a beautiful summer day to me.

Happy semi-cake day!

@alex_uk probably true. I’m happy to keep squat at a pretty low level and work on consistent technique and core strength for now. I can push it harder next year once I’ve got my 80kg press.

@simo74 that sounds awful. I don’t mind heat, but not to train in. Or sleep in.

@doomyguy welcome to the log man. A fellow brit?

@Frank_C Cyrrex is right, heat here is only a drama because we aren’t used to it and we aren’t equipped for it. Air Conditioning is not a thing, so much so that the first time I visited the states in summer, I couldn’t figure out what AC meant until someone told me.

@boyce79 to be fair, we often have pretty good summers. Unfortunately I’m usually working those two days.

@Cyrrex thanks man. I usually don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but I’m pretty hungry despite some less than ideal nutrition lately. Long story short, I could definitely get a semi for the right cake.

@dagill2 Thanks. No, sorry, from Denmark. But that is sort of in the general neighbourhood I guess

It’s clusters/ rest pause I think, so 3 sets of singles grouped together in 5s seperated by very short rests.

@guineapig yeah, what he said.

3 sets of clusters, each cluster is 5 singles with 20s rest.
