10 Miles Back Again

Yeah, but does he deadlift 4 plates? That’s the real test.

I reckon he can, otherwise he’s going to have to resign his post:

I am actually unsure how it works with the new testing, but with the old testing it always scaled with age. Old geezer like that probably only has to be able to bend over and deadlift his pants up to his waist. Or more likely, he is exempt from all testing.

That’s pretty cool. I remember looking at the test many years ago when it first came out and thinking it was a much better standard to aim for.

True but a good general should lead by example!

The old one I did way back was stupid. Just pushups, situps and 2 mile run. I also think it was harder, but at the same time less practical.

I didn’t realise you were a vet?

Never comes up. Early 90s.

Respect. Something I wish I’d considered more seriously before kids and senility appeared.

Yeah, was gonna say, you’d probably fail the psyche eval.

Not sure whether that’s a burn or just straight honesty.

Just started playing around with these last leg session. Seems like a good bridge between lifting heavy while still accumulating some decent volume and ingraining non-shitty reps.

That’s exactly why I’m using them for squats. Ingrain lifting heavy, while still getting some volume in.

Work for today:

Press (ss. Pull ups):
5 x 40kg
5 x 45kg
8 x 50kg
8 x 5 @ 45kg
10 x 45kg

Giant set:
Push ups to failure
15 x lateral raises
20 x bat wings

Finisher:
21-15-9 Skullcrushers/plate press, no rest.

Notes:

  • Press 1RM has snuck up again a little. If I genuinely believed it to be accurate (which I don’t), its gaining by about 1kg a week, which is exactly where I need it to be.
  • Too lazy to set up the Z-press and Trap bar press today so just did straight sets of plain pressing.
  • Been a long, long week. Apologies to everyone who’s missed my valuable contributions/dick jokes in their logs.
  • In other news, even after a week of some seriously questionable nutritional choices, weight is still slowly creeping down.

Nice to see 80% of a Boring But Strong session there.

This is my version called Boring But Impatient. I was getting bored after 11 sets of straight bar pressing, and felt like I stood a good chance of combining the last two sets into one. I was right.

I’ve been doing the same thing on my incline day. The BBB rows have turned into 50 reps in as few sets as possible.

Jim has an approach called “Malcolm X” referring to “by any means necessary” that you may dig. Just get in the 50 reps however you can.

@Frank_C @T3hPwnisher that’s probably where I’ll go once I start tapping out on the weight increases on my normal assistance, I had been adding weight to one of them every week but couldn’t dothat this week(missus has piled up some presents for the kids in front of the trap bar and the chairs I use for Z-presses and I just didn’t fancy moving it all).

Before first Covid lockdown, I learned the joys of 350 sets by doing those for the assistance. It seems like a good idea.

Oh, and nice to see you crack the 50 mark with 8 reps. We will have to stop calling you a complete pussy in all the other threads where we do that and you aren’t aware of it.
