1 Year Bulk - With Fat!

did all my measurements:

waist: 33.8
navel waist: 36.5
hips: 39
neck: 15
wrist: 7
forearm: 12.5

arm: 15
flexed arm: 16
chest: 42.5
flexed chest: 46
leg: 26

BF% 1) 18.7%
BF% 2) 11%

Average: 14.85%

31.8 fat
182.2 lbm

so 25 days since I started starting strength again.

Ive only been in calorie excess (according to estimates) for about 8 days.

weight 211 → 213.5 (lol)
navel waist 35 → 36.5

body fat 12.95% → 14.85%

LBM 183.7 → 182.2
fat 27.3 → 31.8

So based on these measurements I have managed to lose muscle and gain fat on my strength training programme. (in which I have already broken through 3 personal records).

Add this to the fact that I have had maybe 10 small cheat meals through this 25 day period (e.g 1 muffin) ive been at least 90% clean.

So I then went and compared my other stats:

chest and arm are the same as they were at the end of my last starting strength program.
Legs have grown a full inch since the same last measurement!!

How in gods name have my legs gown an inch, and how am I squating and benching more than ever before, and my stats tell me im fatter with less muscle!!?!!

Every part of me knows I have put on muscle, I can see it on my legs in particular. I am physically stronger in every lift.

So basically these measurements are plain wrong.

The are great and accurate once you have settled into a program and things even out.

However I simply feel that the last 25 days of carbs and big lifts have revitalised and re’pumped’ my muscles.

I think my extra size on the measurements cant take into account varying water and glycogen levels. I though that this would have sorted itself out in the 1st 2 weeks, but it seems to still be effecting my stats comparison.

ill be continuing as before, maybe a little more concerned about my carb amounts and timing.

birthday this weekend, so as of Monday I will try and restrict the carbs to the morning and PWO.

probably becoz wat u use to measure BF is inaccurate.

Lots of those gadgets that tell u to key in BW to calculate BF after some mesurement will show a higher BF with a higherBW irregarless…

u probably gained some good muscle if u got stronger…

another way is the mirror or a photo… afterall for bodybuilders, these are far more accurate measures than
scales

right was my birthday weekend so i tried to limit the damage by having my workouts right before the big meals /drinks so that im hoping the massive calorie quantities may have done more than just create fat!

I had one night out, drinking about 20 double vodka and apple juices.

and had 3 junky meals, each time coming away stuffed.

so wasnt suprised to see my weight at 220.25!!

waist went up to 37 inches.

33.7 pounds fat
186.3 lbm

so my muscle mass has shot up which keeps me happy!

ill do skinfolds soon to get a better estimate

took caliper measures today, they told me that id gained a hell of a lot of muscle, but i think thats because of inconsistent measuring.

getting them redone tomorow.

in the mean time i dug out a pic from oct 07 and compared it to June 08.

see below and tell me if there is a difference.

(believe it or not I am flexing in the 1st picture too!)

there’s definately difference - arms are abt 1-2 inches thicker, triceps now visible, forearms have thickened, and from what i see the obliques and back appear to be more toned.

you only post infrequently, yet you always respond to my posts lol!

my whole trunk area and legs have grown drastically from the deadlifts and squats.

this is why after another 6-12 weeks ill be introducing some hypertrophy elements and dropping a back squat session at least.

according to the caliper tests on those two days, those pics are same body fat, but + 4 pound muscle on the right.

so 8 month minus a 3 month cut in that time period

= 4 pound muscle gain in 5 months.

not the quickest gains in the world.

todays weight 216.5 pounds

loss in weight today, although I think its more that my weight was un naturally high caused by my weekend of excess before.

weight 215 pounds.

re did calipers to get a more accurate reading:

BF % 12.82%

LBM: 185.3
fat: 29.7

my LBM in January 08 was 170 so thats an increase of 15 pounds of lbm.

my fat mass was 33 so thats a decrease of 3 pounds.

so im pretty happy with those results.

dont care about the fat, but 15 pounds LBM in 6 months is about the rate I wanted!

having taken measurements etc, my weight has not really changed overall for the month of June. this would usually piss me off, but now i know that my maintenance is 3900 cals.

so im proud of myself for not overeating for the sake of fast growth.

instead ive managed to restrain myself and find out some very useful information.

so now I go up to 4400 a day for a pound of growth a week hopefully!

Im trying to focus on results and how to manipulate my systems to keep the results coming.
