So annoyed. I’ve behaved impeccably since I started this adventure and it wasn’t until yesterday that things went bad.
I didn’t have time to train yesterday because I was working and then I had to meet and old friend that only comes to the UK once every year.
So my first beer in several weeks, which by the way tasted like absolute nectar! By the way the first thing my pal said (not seen him since 2005) was ‘wow you’re looking really healthy’. Made me feel good ![]()
But then my plans to make it up today went out of the window because of family commitments. I have the same tomorrow and then in the evening I have to travel half way up the country to work, stay overnight in a hotel and work all the following day before travelling home that night.
So in total it will be 4 days with zero training - one of them with quite heavy drinking, 5 if you count last thursday as it was only the hill sprint things and no resistance training.
I suppose it’s good that I feel bad about it and am desperate to jump back in, but it’s a such a pain when real life gets in the way of my Operation Adonis in 8 weeks! Agh!!!
In other news, seriously hungover today, my family attempted to make me go for McDonalds or similar several times but at least I was strong enough to go for a walk and get some ready cook chicken breasts instead. A couple of months ago and I wouldn’t have thought twice. Maybe I should take the positives from that and jump back on the horse at the earliest convenience.
Don’t beat yourself up! So you had a bit of a slip- so what? Your not planning on doing it again are you? Its in the past, so forget it. You’re already fitter / healthier than when you started (must be if you mate commented!) so keep it up.
You can do it!

Exactly.
I had a VERY busy past 2 weeks and didn’t get to the gym much in that time, and my strength still sent up by 10lbs in a few of my lifts - even got some personal bests.
Just keep going at it, don’t even consider it a setback.
Cheers lads,
Still been too crazy busy to train this week so I’m just making it the whole week off so I can start all refreshed on Monday.
Thanks again for support.
You should have stopped speed first. I think it is highly unlikely that your strategy will work.
Stopped speed?
As in cardio or the drug? I’m all confused…
Amphetamine. No offence meant, you just sound like you made your moves on it.
Hahaha… Not touched it since I was about 17, many many years ago.
Ok so got back in the saddle yesterday and deadlifted, rowed and squatted more than I have in 6 months so the week-off break seems to have done me the world of good.
Woohoo!
Ooh Bench Presses were up today as well. Good stuff ![]()
Life has been really testing my ability to focus on training these last couple of weeks but with a bit of positivity I’m determined to channel anything negative into lifting really heavy stuff up and down. Helps to distract me, as well as takes the guilt of not training off the list of negatives ![]()
So I decided to up the intensity and really push for (relatively) heavy weights as I felt I was getting into a little comfort zone and maybe going through the motions a bit. Only prob is it means I am capable of doing less exercises per workout.
So a question to all you lovely people…
Tonight I managed my
Warmup - Stationary Cycle 50% resistance 5mins (2.1km - increases each time)
Romanian deadlift 1 x 12, 1 x 8, 5 x 5
Bent over row 1 x 10, 5x5
Squat 1 x 15, 1 x 8, 5x5
All at intensities that made me want to curl up and die, although I managed to complete them all. However, I was absolutely 100% fucked after that and so didn’t do the 1 arm rows, shrugs, and other things I would normally do afterwards.
For the sake of time, as I am sick of doing 1.5hr workouts, would I be better off just doing three big compound lifts per workout (3 per week) like this at my ‘100% cannot do another’ max, or keeping a little in the tanks and doing more exercises at a slightly lower intensity?
Goals are still to lose fat, have the bits that are supposed to be solid solid, and build a good base for the point where I outgrow what I have at home and want to throw some ‘grown up’ weights around - if any of that makes a difference.
Would appreciate any advice you people can offer. Thanks in advance.
Oooh just weighed myself for the first time in a while. I have now lost exactly 1st since this little adventure began. Yey me!
Not the amazing results I was hoping for when I started but stuff has been thrown up during that time so I have to be more than happy. Only prob is cos of concentrating on the lifting and building strength again I seem to finally have a decent (if unspectacular) shape to my legs and upper-upper body, but still a nasty fatso belly which means I still have to wear my shapeless fat bloke jeans ![]()
From now on in it is all about the burning fat for the next month! Bring it… Grrr!
Oh and I know it’s pathetic by everyone else’s standard here, but finally I can DL above my weight ![]()
Not posted for a while but after another girlfriend-related week of eating too much I am back on track. Another DL record for me tonight.
Have too much of a belly again though so will work my arse off to lose it before winter!
So finally introduced creatine into the mix this time around. Reaching a couple of little plateaus and thought mayb it would help me kick start another bunch of good gains…
A few lifts above my previous max records now but others way off for some reason. Also don’t look so hot - I have been neglecting the Hiit recently and the belly is ruining the other advances. Must. Work. harder!
