I saw Zohan tonight with the at a free pre-screening in Georgetown… It’s one of the few nice things about living in DC.
I give it a 5/10. It was hilarious in the middle, but the beginning and end sucked. There were entirely too many penis jokes, probably somewhere between 50-100, no lie. 1 or 0 is okay, but Sandler went overboard. It definitely has it’s moments, but it’s almost has a “Sean Pennesque” sanctimonious undertone that can instantly ruin any movie.
Overall I would say it’s a rental.
Where would you rank it among the other Sandler films?
I do want to see this, but I’m not expecting much since I don’t think Sandler’s that funny anymore. I was definitely on the fence about seeing it in the theater. Your review is pretty much what I expected.
It’s hard to say. I like the movies that he portrays characters that have strong emotional outbursts. For some reason, watching Sandler snap cracks me up. Not too much of that in this film.
The scripts focuses on raunch, which it fails at, but the seriously funny parts involve some random shit. There are moments when the comedy is so totally random that it is almost reminded me of that old Canadian movie “Strange Brew.” There are some good racial jokes and random unexplained moments. It’s definitely good for a few laughs.
The thing is that it’s hit or miss with the comedy. There was stuff in there for people with my humor, but the cheesy and overt penis theme got old quick.

Doesn’t it always?
Take Forgetting Sarah Marshall for instance… the plot related jokes sucked, and the main characters were boring. The random-ass side characters, however, were fucking hysterical.
Also, take ever Will Ferrel movie ever made.
Random shit is funny.

Will Ferrel is currently about as funny as the keyboard I’m typing this on.
Random shit IS indeed funny. Will Ferrel desperately attempting to be random for 90 straight minutes? Makes me squirm in my seat it’s so bad.
I’m actually looking foward to Mike Meyer’s new film, The Guru. Sure it looks like a lot of the same jokes at his other flicks, but sometimes you just need a few laughs, and too many of the blockbusters just make you feel ripped off. (saw Indy this weekend, real let down)

I won’t spoil it, but when Zohan first meets his arch-nemesis there is some hilarious random shit.

Will Ferrel’s movies just aren’t that funny anymore, but how many movies can you do about the essentially the same man-child character that he does? That said, Semi-Pro is being shipped to me and if they really make the Anchorman sequel that’s being rumored, then I’ll go see that one, too.
there is a lot of terrible movies coming out. a couple I’m looking foward to-the dark knight, especially in imax. also I forget the name of it, but the fake military operation one, with ben stiller, robert downing jr, and jack black. looks funny as shit.
zohan and the guru I’ll probably watch online.

Semi-Pro was agonizing to sit through. However, it was absolutely delightful entertainment compared to Anchorman.
Those fight scenes in Anchorman honestly may have been the least funny thing I’ve ever witnessed in my life. I’ve seen better humor at funerals.

I heard Semi-Pro was terrible. One of my friends is one of those gung-ho ‘Will Ferrel is the funniest man alive’ fans and even she said she could hardly get through it. I just need to see it for myself, you know?
Which fight scenes in Anchorman are you referring to? The scene where all the news stations got into the gang fight?

Agreed. He used to be great. He gets less funny with every movie he makes. And every role and movie is somehow exactly the same as the last one but at the same time gets increasingly worse.
Sandler peaked with Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore.I’ll probably wait 'til it’s on dvd.
Anchorman is great but Ferrell often sucks balls.

Ferrel was hilarious in his small bit in Wedding Crashers. The ‘MEATLOAF!’ line is classic. That shit was random.

Yes, and he was even pretty funny in “Old School”. The similarity in both those roles is that he was provided to the viewer in SMALL DOSES.
That’s what he’s good at. SNL skits, and random scenes of movies. He might be the worst lead-actor choice in history, though.
Will Ferrel is good when he’s being random, and tends to suck at leading a movie.
That’s what I was implying -_-.

No Nick Cage is the worst lead-actor choice in history. Ferrel was really good in the movie where he hears his life being narrated[can’t remember the name].

Stranger Than Fiction
And yes, there are much worse leading men out there than Will Ferrell.

Im starting to feel the same way about Steve Carell. 40 Year Old Virgin is right up there with some of my favorite flicks ever and it seems like every role he has taken since has been complete crap (except for his part in Little Miss Sunshine). I think what made that movie funny for me in the long run was the improv done by Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen. That MADE the movie for me at least. Carell had his moments but Rudd and Rogen owned that movie. That was some funny random shit
