I’ve watched football for years and have never once heard this term before this thread.
Diving, not flopping is the terminology:
i.e: the portuguese are DIVING ****s, Christiano Ronaldo is a DIVER, Ronaldo DIVED, Ronaldo took a DIVE.
I’ve used the Portuguese to illustrate, but you get the point…
Regarding Zidane: I think what he did was remarkably stupid, he was player of the tournament and had a shot at going out at the absolute pinnacle of the game and he threw it away because of a bit of verbal. Materazzi may have said something pretty bad, but so what? Zidane fell for it and gave exactly the reaction that Materazzi was looking for, that to me shows immaturity not befitting a player of his experience and standing.
I’m not saying that France would have won with Zidane on the field, but they might have done and now we will never know, and neither will he.
He was defending his mother’s honor, and his own. I’ve got no problem with his not being a pussy, and being a man. He had to pay a price for it. And only he can decide for himself whether it was worth it.
Talk shit to me about my family and I’d do similar.
In alot of other sports, he would be sorted out by now. Players in rugby and hockey tend to look after guys like that on their own, no help from refs or league officials.
On the other hand, here is a quote I was sent today:
“The warrior doesn’t care if he’s called a beast or a dog - the main thing is winning”

I’ve gotten into several arguments with people about this incident. Many feel that there is some level of insult that makes assault on another human being “justifiable.”
I was raised to believe that one shouldn’t hit another human being except in self-defense.
Do some of you think it is somehow manly to sucker-punch/sucker-headbutt a guy who is talking shit?
Some of you probably need to reexamine your priorities.
His last game of an excellent career, and he chose to go out like that???
Did anyone notice if the Italian guy did anything particular to piss him off???
NOTE: Zidane has had a history of doing dirty fouls like this…
Probably said his wife was a douche bag or something like that. Perfectly normal really. Players trash talk all the time. Zidane is just an idiot for letting his emotions get the better of him with the game on the line.

What very few know is that, back in the locker room, he did that same move to his locker 10 times, saying: “Why did I waste my life playing a kiddie game! Why did I waste my life playing a kiddie game!”
He also announced his endorsement deal with the Tylenol folks.

The entire world outside the United States.
Just ignore him - apparently he never received enough attention as a child and it forever scarred him.
Nah, its just a dumb fucking ‘sport’, as this World Cup bore out. The players take a dive if anyone farts in their direction and the captain of the French is a moron for responding to stupid taunts. The Italian guy, btw, wished his family a painful death. What a surprise! I have had guys across the line tell me that they plan on raping my mother, gangbanging my sister, all kinds of shit. Its part of any game. You counter by playing harder and smarter, something beyond the grasp of most soccer players and most of their fans.

They’re soccer players/fans and not real football players for a reason.

I didn’t see his mother there. She didn’t need his protection.
He reacted stupidly to childish trash talking.
I hate trash talking but Zidane made a stupid mistake. No honor involved.
It is not like he is young and hasn’t heard it before.

I thought the same thing! This is a classic Vale Tudo move, though to do that to the chest simply enrages your opponent. Better to target the nose with a downward strike like that, with an eye gouge to follow. If they’re blind, they can’t fight.
When they bring Kina Mutai into the World Cup, then it’ll really be worth watching!

Please say you are kidding?
Ever heard of the saying sticks and stone my break my bones but names will never hurt me?
Unless a mother fcuker is up in your mother?s grill, how the hell is that defending her honor? If anything that is tainting her honor, because this just showed the world that she raised a weak minded prick, and let another person get into his head.
So, if he did call him a terrorist, then he proved him right, because that was a terrorist/coward less act. If anything, if he was that offended and his emotion pussy hurt that much, he should have met up with him in about 20 minutes after the game, and stomped his ass…
But on a side note, was this the first time the French every took a stand? Let alone in Germany?

The term “flopping” comes from basketball…and you are correct, in regards to soccer, it is “diving”, as with hockey.

That’s a new one to me, and I’ve been watching b-ball for 30 years. “Acting” is the term most used. That said, it’s not hard to figure out what someone means by “flopping” is it?
