Well, I do not have the wear with all to write a summary after having read it a decade ago. However, in a summary, of a summary, Robinson let the reading public know Joe Weider was a prick. The famous bust of the Master Blaster is Robbie Robinson’s bust with Joe Weider’s melon on top. The Blaster did not even tell Robbie Robinson. Robinson and his wife discovered the ruse at a banquet of the unveiling of the said Robinson bust with the Weider Melon.
What’s up man? Good to see you.
How have you been doing?
When thinking of a single muscle, yes. The problem comes in when trying to train all muscles in the body at once, it’s such a huge load on the systematic areas. The ‘stimulation’ area works that way, it’s just trying to get a proper response and adaptations in all muscles at once. We then are stuck with the choice of more ‘small hits’ per week vs less larger ‘hits’. so we don’t over run the systematic areas.
So a person can do 3x full body (3 smaller stimulations), or each muscle twice a week with a big larger stimulations, or less often with even larger, it usually ends up about the same long term.
NW lifter, thanks for the answer.
Thinking about your “tweak” on effective reps, I suppose it accounts for the effectiveness of compound exercises for overall growth. Even the muscles that aren’t the prime movers in a particular exercise (eg arm flexors in chin ups) are “affected” enough to facilitate some stimulus, whereas in the traditional “effective reps” theory it’s hard to see how that would be.
That is a very good point I hadn’t thought of before!
Man, that is such a great graphic… that’s EXACTLY how it is? Do you know the origin of those graphs?
Thanks, I created that graph to illustrate how it would be based on recruitment/rate coding progression. It’s of course not exact since different muscles have different recruitment thresholds (small muscles as low as 40% MVC, most others 60-80%, quads up to 95%) but it gets the point across. After my article before we had a lot of discussions off an on in the group about effective reps.
If I ever want to use it, how should I give you credit?
You can sure use it if you want, it’s kinda sloppy as I made it in a hurry, if you want to mention me you sure can, R. Sowers but no obligation
I’m so much a visual person, I have quite a few things like that I’ve made to try and show visually how things work to insert into my articles, people mostly have trouble seeing how recruitment and rate coding work (which is really the key to visualizing how any variable might affect things) so have made quite a few on that, that’s a hard one to get across without a super lengthy text.
I was going to PM you a PDF with the text, but I don’t think we can do that on here anymore?
Do you have an instagram account that I can tag if I use it?
no insta but have an FB page [Facebook]
So you are Ron Sowers, as in the guy who had several articles on Casey Butt’s old site? I tried finding that the other day. Looks like it has gone away.
yes dat be me!
Yes the original site went down, but one of the members made a clone site. you can find it here

You have been unmasked ![]()
LOL man now I gotta go back into hiding lol
Oh lookie! Maybe I’m not so full of it after all!

Yup, that’s the audio recording I found after about 5 minutes of searching via Google. Since Mentzer died in 2001, that recording is likely close to 25 years old.
So the allegation has been around a long time. Didn’t derail Arnold’s career back then. Unlikely to change anything now.
Doesn’t take much digging to find lots sketchy things about Arnold. Not many people seem to care.
My point being, ASSmonius calling me a liar. I know more about that contest than he ever will. I discussed it with Mike and Roger. As I said, just because the truth “butt hurts” him, doesn’t make it a untrue.
Oh, so Joe Weider said Arnold was on cocaine?! Well, now we know it’s the gospel truth!! ![]()
To be honest re drugs - Hadn’t Mentzer used amphetamine, at least prior to the 1980 Olympia?
